Gender Studies I

But people don't just ... "decide" to be a woman. Yes, we need some sort of basic guardrails to keep unscrupulous scumbags from taking advantage of this, but no one just says "hey I'm a lady now".

Exactly. From the wailing on the Right, you would think this sort of thing happens all the time - so frequently that it serves the greater good to deny transgendered citizens equal access to government-run activities at public schools and universities. So where is it? Where's a single documented case of someone starting out life as one sex, winning any sort of accolade as the opposite sex, and then switching back?

What's that? You're saying that even though it hasn't happened yet, it *might* happen? That's your basis for allowing governmental discrimination? You might as well say that the government should ban all handguns because they *might* be used in crimes. Or that Conservatives shouldn't be allowed to vote, because they *might* vote for a treasonous puddle of orange drool.

Oh, wait. Strike that last one - not a valid example of an extreme hypothetical.

At this point, I'm torn between "learn the system to break the system" and "by any means necessary."

Let's say that Zion identified as female.

He ("she") would have left a trail of broken bones on the way to a championship, even if he played for a mediocre woman's program, if it's even OK to cite "women" any more.

This is pretty obvious, and it's fairly absurd to say otherwise.

Gender must exist in sports... Outside of that, gender can be plastic, and no one will care much.

Nobody here has addressed the very real issue of biological men competing against women in physical competitions.

It's a problem for the women swimming against Lia; they've said so themselves.

Yes they have. Many times. Hormones do amazing things. Perhaps you could learn about it.

People like him say "educate" and then move the goal posts all over the place.

But you and I both know that for someone on HRT, "biological advantage" doesn't mean anything when you can't open a pickle jar. (ACHIEVMENT UNLOCKED +2000)

Yep, he's a concern troll. Just like the other Fishy was 10 years ago.

You keep bringing up the pickle jar...

Trans or not, we are dealing with "elite" athletes.... Please stop acting like HRT makes these athletes have the capabilities of an MTU undergrad who hasn't left their dorm room for 5 months... As a whole, there is a 10-20% performance difference in winning times/distances between Male and Female...

After HRT, Lia's times in the 500 fell just 6%.... And HRT does not alter bone structure, height, etc...

There is a point there:

People are currently wired to use gender biased language based upon traditional feminine/masculine appearances. Because these traditional biases are still hardwired in many, MANY people, they can get said without the intent to offend. It happens. Even if that person is for your right to exist. Language takes time to evolve. It will take time for pronouns to be dropped from common language.

Never going to happen. The world as a whole accepts biological gender as a fact of Nature, as it should. Entire Romance languages are gender-specific.

Just saying something don't make it so. The world isn't going to do a 180 because a tiny minority demands it.

There was outrage when Fallon Fox entered MMA. Same cries of unfair advantage. She fizzled out and there was silence.

There was outrage when Laurel Hubbard qualified for Tokyo. Same cries of unfair advantage and silence when she didn't make the medal round.

Lia Thomas won one event and there was outrage about unfair advantage. But when she finished 5th and 8th in the other two championships and her career is over, there is silence.

I see the hypocrisy. It's like people either don't want us to compete or if they do, how dare we actually be good.
