Gender Studies I

I'm going on history.

In general, queers have been treated poorly in this country. And any gains received are wiped out by the next administration.

We're frustrated this keeps happening and nothing is being done to stop it. This is why we have mutual aid networks and queers rely on each other.

And for all the "awareness," the attacks are escalating,. and all we hear is "you're so strong and brave."

One thing that concerns me about Texas: how many vindictive ex husbands are going to weaponize this?

And I know it's easy and well intended to say "just leave." But a lot of these families are barely scratching by as it is and don't have the resources to simply call for a U-Haul at midnight.

eff Texas

It's disgusting that individuals (governor, attorney general) are taking this on themselves when the legislature couldn't pass it. Republicans need to stop trying to control people's bodies.
My nephew is so much happier now than he was before. Fortunately for a family of 2 lawyers, they have already had documents changed for legal name and gender. They also can afford to move and will be doing so later this year.

And this, sadly, is the entire objective of this legislation - getting wealthy liberals to leave Texas' cities for elsewhere.

There's an amazing animated graphic out on DataIsBeautiful showing net emigration from TX for the last 8 years. It's staggering. They are going to be Ohio eventually.

Personal opinion:
As a trans woman, I despise the adjectives "strong" and "brave."

Why?

I had no choice in the matter.

Any sign of weakness means either a loss of life or a loss of autonomy/agency.

It means a denial of our humanity.

It's basically code for "you can handle it all on your own."

And I've reached the point where if I need to handle an oppressive society on my own, okay fine. "REGULATORS... MOUNT UP!"

That is interesting. The areas people are leaving: Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin unsure if those lines are darker because liberals are leaving, or more likely those lines are darker because those areas have more population to leave. My brother's family is going to be on one of the darker lines: from Houston to Seattle area (I'm still trying to get him to pick Chicago...but his wife has been wanting to get back to the Pacific Northwest for awhile, she spent some of her youth in Oregon).

Today is International Women's Day.

Can also be referred to as "When Is International Men's Day" based on the males of the species who complain.

We had an event at work for International Women's Day. My first question, "it's great that you're presenting this information to the women of our workforce, but what is being done to educate the men of our workforce and turn them into allies?"

I also found it interesting the panel discussion was moderated by a man. Sure, put a man in the leadership role. I appreciate the participation of a man, but maybe give the leadership role to an equally capable (if not more capable) woman, at least today.

Wow, good fucking luck prosecuting something someone did legally in another state in your state court systems.

Also, fuck you Idaho.

Well, there's another state I can sadly remove from the list of states I will give my domestic tourism business to anytime soon. It's the least I can do. Particularly unfortunate because Idaho is far prettier than any part of Texas or Florida.
