To the users of Twit, Pin, Face:
You aren't amazing because you awoke and consumed oxygen today. Get over yourselves. %socialmedia

And now ... get off my lawn.

To avoid this problem I avoid social media like "The Twit", Pimpterest*, Faceschmuck, and such.

*Seems all that's there is folks pimping their 'greatness'.
yay for the f.*.c.kyer! I hope it catches on

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

I seriously question the people who dismiss everything they hear from mainstream media or other established news sources, but are quick to post everything they read on Empire News, National Report, Natural News, etc.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

If people saw on the internet that they should punch themselves in the balls to promote better health, there's be an awful lot of guys wandering around with sore nuts for a week.

OMG!!! IT'S ON A WEBSITE I'VE NEVER HEARD OF WITH AN OFFICIAL LOOKING PICTURE!! IT MUST BE TRUE!!!!11!1!1!!

Look, I don't care what newspaper he's published in, but if Dickie Dunn wrote it, it has to be true!

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Brian O'Connor, tomorrow morning's Detroit News:

Thanks to modern technology — and the fact that your average Internet-connected American has the attention span of a tsetse fly and the guile of a week-old meatloaf — you can learn a lot on the Internet.

A lot that's wrong.

You can learn that California is building a $587 billion high-speed rail link to Hawaii. Or that spider eggs were used to stuff Beanie Babies and now are hatching all over America. You can even discover that hundreds of thousands of Thanksgiving turkeys are contaminated with Ebola.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Empire News says it's a satire/entertainment website in their disclaimer, yet people believe their stories are true. In the case of Natural News, the man behind it is a 9/11 truther and an Obama birther, and most of the "all organic, all the time" crowd believe him anyway.

There are people who think "The Onion", and their new parody of Buzzfeed titled "Clickhole" are real too.

Daily Currant is even funnier. They do a darn good job of making it look convincing.

The website that really rankles me though is the Food Babe. She doesn't know what something is, so she incites paranoia over it. She's like the Jenny McCarthy of food...

Her insane blog about flying was ridiculous.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Warranty runs out in July, car develops issue in November.

That's about right.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Buy a standby generator for house. Power company never has an outrage during the warranty period.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Friends who are complaining about their work schedules after telling their employer they had "open availability" on their application. Ummm... if you wanted Sundays off, then you should have said that when applying.

That being said, I've learned having limited availability in the service industry is akin to cutting your own throat. When it's time for your bosses to slash hours, your shifts are the first to go.

wait a second! you are complaining here because you did not lose power?

If I could guarantee we'd never lose power for a few years merely by purchasing a standby generator, I'd gladly make that trade-off! :)

btw, we haven't bought one yet. a lack of unanimity on whether to use propane or gasoline or natural gas, and on where to store it when not in use has led to inaction here. What kind did you get, and why, if I may ask? (even if it is not "the" right thread in which to inquire ;) )

It grinds my gears that on the last leaf pickup day, Nov. 9, my biggest tree had lost maybe 25% of its leaves. Now they've all fallen, so I have leaves under the snow and no more leaf pickup.

Apparently I can bag the leaves and take them to the dump, but that is NOT HAPPENING. Maybe I can mow this weekend after the snow melts.

We bought a natural gas one as we have gas coming in to heat the house. Did not buy one to power the whole house but one to run 10 circuits that we deem essential. Air conditioning would have meant buying a big unit that was overkill.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

dx was right. The "all-organic, all the time" crowd IS a bunch of terrified housewives who watch Dr. Oz religiously.

"AUGH! GMOs! GLUTEN! CONVENTIONALLY GROWN PRODUCE! SODA POP! FACTORY-FARMED MEAT! KEURIG COFFEE MAKERS! PANIC! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!"

And some of them come off as wet blankets. "Oh, you enjoy having a Coke now and then? That's bad for you and it will kill you."

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

The only positive thing I can think of that Congress did in months- slapping "Dr" Oz's wrists. Too bad they didn't send him some where far away!

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

And as far as I'm concerned, vegans can post ALL the turkey slaughter YouTube videos to social media, every hour on the hour every day until Thanksgiving... it won't change a thing. 98% of America is going to sit down and enjoy a freshly cooked animal of some kind on Thursday afternoon. With gravy.
