Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

God. Comcast is a company full of ****ing ****heads. I hate them with a passion. They are horrible.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Comcast is like meth: not even once. I will go with a farking DSL connection or a mobile network plan before I ever go with Comcast.

I have heard stories of people video recording themselves returning their equipment and counting it out piece by piece against the documentation in front of the camera, and STILL getting hit with collection calls months later.

If my name is ever in connection with a Comcast account, call the police because my identity has been stolen.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

For where I am, Comcast is the only option.

"Sorry, Verizon FIOS is only available in select areas within the Chicago city limits. Not the suburbs where you are."
"Oh, you want Mediacom? Good luck, that's only in a handful of backwoods 'cities' west of you."
"Wide Open West cable? Nope, we're not building out our services in your area. We're also selling our territory to Comcast."
"ATT UVerse? Sorry, we were told we can't put any new fiber lines down in your area, try DSL."
"ATT DSL? Good luck getting service, the main connection points are too far away."
"Comcast? Yep, we got you covered!"

AFAIK, I can have slow(er) and crappy internet compared to Comcast, or Comcast. I don't regret cutting the cord, though. Netflix has been a Godsend, in that regard; as far as college hockey, I don't mind (and actually even have re-discovered the joy of) listening to hockey on the radio, and for NFL, I watch most of the games at Old Chicago to begin with, so nothing lost there.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I had Comcast for a decade and never once had a problem. Only reason I switched to DirectTV was the ssvings.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Someone honked at me for stopping at a yellow light. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Yellow does not mean "gun it". The people that run yellow and red lights seem to be getting bolder and more numerous. How many times do we have to learn this lesson? That 2 minutes you might save is not worth someone's life. Your time is NOT more important than everyone else's time.

More information is needed on this. Yellow lights are (at least supposed to be) meant to be a warning of going red for a fixed amount of time, sometimes arbitrarily decided by the state (90% of NYS's yellow lights are 3 seconds), some based upon the speed limit of the road. What would be ideal is to have a dotted line across the lane. If the light turns yellow and you are on or past that line, then you are able to get through the intersection at the speed limit assuming good conditions, so keep going. If you're behind it, prepare to stop.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Weird. I had that happen to me a couple years back. I called them and within five minutes he had my account credited for all of the months I had it on there and made sure it wasn't on there since then.

Same with me...my gf is having the same issue with Century Link and lets just say their customer service makes Comcast look competent. Plus their internet service blows ;)

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

One thing that grinds my gears is when someone passes out in the bathroom on the late train. An 8-car train only has 4 bathrooms to begin with, and the late trains are generally populated with people on their way home after dinner and drinks. One bathroom had the "occupied" light on for 35 minutes last night, door locked, no one answering to repeated knocks on the door. Lots of "p1ssed off" people last night making the trek through multiple cars to find the next one, which of course is now occupied more than normal.

It was close to but not quite at the level where you see people emerge from the bathroom and then proceed immediately to the end of the line again.

I can't even envision a world where this would be a problem.

First, going home on a train. No comprehension.
Second, having a train ride long enough to have to go to the bathroom while on the train. Ummm, what?
Third, wait, trains have bathrooms?
Fourth, someone would get drunk enough having drinks after work to PASS THE **** OUT IN A BATHROOM ON A TRAIN!?!?!?!?

This was pretty much my thought progression.

I swear to God I am living in an alternate universe when it comes to Comcast. I have never had an issue with them that wasn't remedied with a 5-minute phone call or a tech coming out the next day (once, and it was comped).

The only thing I don't like about them is the price. I need to get my cable bill down. It's embarrassingly high.

I've never had an issue with century link's service, but then I don't have the barebones level. I get 40 down/5 up. Of course my neighbors across the street are limited to 12/1, which would suck. Not sure why the difference, we have had at least 20/5 since we moved in. It's also the only option here since mediacom hasn't laid cable in my neighborhood yet.

I have Centurylink here in Denver because not Comcast.

Came home from work one Friday to find the Internet out. Called Centurylink. Went through the script including power cycling the modem three times, nothing. They couldn't get a tech out until next Monday at 5 PM. Went without Internet for the whole weekend.

When he finally arrived, it was a loose connection in the box at the street. 3 day wait for a 5 minute job where he didn't even have to enter the **** house.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

The only problem I really had with Comcast is when I dropped my cable and upped my internet. That was a complete sh*show. Other than that, I'd say maybe...20 years (?) I had them with no problems.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

It's not Comcast directly that grinds my gears, it's this rebel-without-a-cause sales rep that really needs to continue mimicking James Dean straight into a tree.

I never had major issues either. A couple outages that cleared up within a few hours. Everything I did I took care of over the phone or online. Never rolled a technician the whole two years of service at the apartment. Then Mr. Ol' Gil Gunderson thinks he has a sale, and goes and changes my account information without my permission.

That's the sort of thing state attorney generals like to hear about. Send a nice letter their way and Comcast will fall all over themselves to fix it.

They'd probably give you a year of free HBO, too, instead of the normal 6 months.
