Ok- but I still don't understand why one would rather have a solid green AND a green arrow. Is it so bad to have a dedicated turn lane with an arrow and a flashing yellow? At least it's only 3 lights on the indicator.

I guess it is bad for some people. If you are looking to be ****ed off.

No, it's when you're coming around a blind corner and the first thing you see is a yellow light come on, you immediately start to slow down because you see yellow. If it went from green arrow and circle to green circle, you wouldn't have that issue.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Okay, while the following doesn't quite make it to the level of "gear grinding," it can be mildly annoying....

Have you ever had someone tell you about an incident, that would take about 90 seconds to relate if they merely said, "this person did x and y, and then this other person did z", somehow find a way to stretch out the story to 12 or 15 minutes, by constantly going off on digressions about each person and how things led up to it and how in a different situation they handled it a different way and on and on and on....

When did you talk to my son?

I have to talk to production staff about issues incurred with applications that perform very specific functions. Until her recent retirement, I would have to ask this one woman what happened. What should've been all of a two-minute conversation could last for 10-15 minutes as I have to listen to her talk about conversations with person X that, while business related, has nothing to do with her application failing even though she seems to think otherwise. Ugh.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

At many intersections in Manhattan, after the yellow light turns to red on one street, all the lights remain red for two or three seconds before the cross street turns green. Similar concept, different execution.

The terrifying thing about this is drivers have figured it out so when yellow goes to red they judge they have an extra couple of seconds to get through the intersection. Knowing this they mentally extend the "safe zone" backwards on yellow and don't start decelerating. There are a few intersections around my work where I will actually sit on green for 2 seconds on the off chance that one of these jackwagons will try to run the light. It has saved me at least twice.

I always make sure all approaching cars are going to stop before I go, even on green. At every intersection. Too many people do not take driving seriously enough.

Funny because you could have stopped at 90 seconds.

This site seems to take much longer to load since the recent changes. Is it just my computer issue?

No, it's not your computer. It's your computer's user. :p

I've not experienced any issues in load times on my work PC. It could be browser related, though. I use IE 11 here, would have to check the other browsers when I get home.

If you're already stopped, that's one thing. Then you get the idiots that effectively stop on green and try to cite this. THEY grind my gears.

My connection speed is good. It's USCHO and not other sites. I'll try a different browser and see if that helps.

The only logical conclusion is that the local PD has hacked my computer. :D

How many fabric softener sheets in the dryer when drying clothes? I use 1. My wife leaves the old ones in the dryer which tonight meant 8. Am I nuts for only thinking one at a time?

My new LG dryer advises against using them at all - apparently they can leave ick all over the sensors and mess things up.

One is enough.

One is enough, but >1 doesn't hurt. This strikes me as one of those "person who changes the toilet paper gets to pick whether it rolls from the front or the back " arguments. In other words, if you load the dryer, throw out the old ones and use only one. If your wife loads the dryer, she gets to leave the used ones in.

None. We (well, she - I'm banned from doing laundry) use reusable wool dryer balls. 3-6 baseball sized felted wool balls tumbling around with your clothes does a pretty good job and there is nothing to throw away. I know it sounds ridiculous, but they seem to work. http://www.loo-hoo.com

You can take a Scotch brand scouring pad (you're welcome Ma Miners in the forum) to remove the "ick" from the sensors. Also, it would be good to wash the lint trap filter with water and a pad scouring from time to time.

It puts you in an odd spot, depending upon the type of clothes you own, as moisture wicking clothes often advise against liquid softeners.

We got the LG front loaders with the steam option for our new house. Highly recommended. They dry super fast, the clothes are barely wet when the washer finishes spinning them. Much better than the whirlpool frontoaders we used to have.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

For my large loads of towels I use 2. For other very large loads I'll use 2. Otherwise 1.

Unless I'm washing my sheets, undershirts, or Under Armour. Those three all say to avoid fabric softeners. Sheets or liquid.
