Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

One is enough, but >1 doesn't hurt. This strikes me as one of those "person who changes the toilet paper gets to pick whether it rolls from the front or the back " arguments. In other words, if you load the dryer, throw out the old ones and use only one. If your wife loads the dryer, she gets to leave the used ones in.

No, because there is obviously only one correct way to put the toilet paper roll on the dispenser.

For my large loads of towels I use 2. For other very large loads I'll use 2. Otherwise 1.

Unless I'm washing my sheets, undershirts, or Under Armour. Those three all say to avoid fabric softeners. Sheets or liquid.

You shouldn't use any softener so with towels.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I never understood why someone would mount the roll under till I met someone who claimed they had gotten a roll undone by a toddler and a cat.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Zero - I don't use softener at all. I think it's unnecessary. Just one more thing better spent on food and travel. :p

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

We got the LG front loaders with the steam option for our new house. Highly recommended. They dry super fast, the clothes are barely wet when the washer finishes spinning them. Much better than the whirlpool frontoaders we used to have.

Those are the ones I have. Only problem is my dryer keeps flashing a d80 error at me, which means "vent 80% blocked." Has done it ever since I got it. I had a vent cleaning done and it's still coming up, but the dryer seems to work fine. My only guess is the thinner air at altitude messing with the sensor.

My wife loads it under, I switch them to over. She uses it my way and does not switch them back to under. So why does she install them under in the first place?

We've been married 31+ years. At least I lower the toilet lids.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

The ONLY reason to load it under is because of a pet. Period.

I love it! Every long term couple has these idiosyncrasies. We've been married 35 and my thing I reload the dishwasher because I don't like the way she does it.

My explanation for the toilet paper roll is that it's a subtle reminder of who changes the toilet paper roll most often. That's why I make the bed in a way I know she doesn't like.

Ain't long term marriages fun?;)

Same with me. Except my wife doesn't pay attention to which way it goes, so half the time its correct, the other half it is under and I have to switch it. I have told her 100 times the correct way to do it and she still doesn't make it over. :p

Along the same lines, I always have to fill the dishwasher. She will put stuff in, with no rhyme or reason. Plate, plate, bowl, plate, bowl, plate, etc. If you put stuff in there right, you can fit about twice as many dishes in. Plates all in a line, bowls in a line too.

With all that said, she's still awesome and puts up with way more of my **** than I do of hers. :)

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

My roommate does the same thing with the dishwasher. She's awful at it haha.

There are times when I'll open the door and find a freshly washed load that is about 50% full and haphazardly thrown in.

I'm a dishwasher nazi. A dishwasher needs to be loaded properly to get a proper clean. Put large plates all in one row, preferably opposite of the silverware so it doesn't block the water. Don't load anything so that it touches the tower (God, I hate tower washers). Load small plates on the other side all in one row if possible. Bowls are next and should be placed in the remaining sections of the lower rack. Spread out the silverware so that they don't "spoon" together. I prefer large spoons in the first three sections, small spoons in the next two to three sections, forks can be split evenly among all sections. Don't over-load them. Don't put plastics on the lower rack. If you're not sure if something is top rack only, put it on the top rack. Put all the glasses on the far sides of the top rack and make sure they angle towards the center slightly. Move things around if you can find a more efficient use of the space.

Bottom line, make sure everything is angled slightly towards the center. If you put it in facing the wall, it's not going to be cleaned.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I'm always rearranging the dishwasher when fiance puts stuff in there. The top rack has 4 rows that glasses can go in, and then the middle for plastic bowls, lids, other odd top rack stuff. He is constantly putting glasses over pegs such that they are in 2 rows, leaving a bunch of space that can no longer be utilized.

While I appreciate his helpfulness, I also dislike that he doesn't scan the living room and bedroom for any dishes before running the dishwasher (since he tends to leave glasses sitting around lots of places). Maybe it's just the engineer in me that wants the dishwasher loading and running to be as efficient as possible.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I'm not allowed to load the dishwasher, I've been banned by my wife. :D

On another note, people who think because you criticize something about the ownership or management of a team you're "not a real fan!"

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

FlagDUDETTE thought for a while that the dishwasher was a dish cupboard and the sink was a dishwasher. Needless to say, I was able to change that back pretty quickly, even if it means I load and unload the dishwasher.

Sounds to me like FlagDudette lost that battle and won that war.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Meh, I'm single so I use the dishwasher as a cupboard every so often. Unless I've made a mess cooking, then I'll unload everything and start loading stuff again. Or if I'm waiting for something and I'm in the kitchen (waiting on a pot of water to boil, etc.)

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

If I could get mine to drain at all, I'd use mine a hell of a lot more. It washes just fine....but no drain.

When it did work, when it got full I'd set the timer so that it would run at 2-3 AM. That way it doesn't bother anything else.
