Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Some kids just shouldn't be protected in this society. Those kids who lazily saunter across a major road because the bus's stop arm is extended - those kids should be included in both Duck and Rabbit seasons. Elmer has my back on this.

At Sam's, you're brought in and evaluated for 90 days before you become permanent. No one thinks this guy will even make it to 90 days.

And they had ME talk to him today, as if that would have an effect. He nodded, but the proof is in the pudding. If I continue to hear horror stories, I will have my boss put me on closing until we find someone who can handle it.
We have a 90 day probation period here. They can get rid of anybody at anytime before 90 days for any reason. After 90 days you get the union representation.

Granted, a job like mine pretty requires a 90 day probation as we need to weed out people like that kid.

And I talked to my team lead/scheduler. Sounds like I will be put on closing until this situation is solved.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I cannot believe the call I got this morning, except that I totally can.

I HATE COMCAST!

I used to have crapcast for my interwebs (and tv) and always used my own modem. Since 2004, through 3 moves, always my own modem. At times, especially when I moved, Comcrap would add a modem rental fee to my bill. I would call, and after a few calls the fee would be removed from my bill. A few years ago, despite multiple calls, they continued billing me. I started subtracting $8 from what I would pay for my bill. They started billing me some late fees too. After several more months with no resolution, I cancelled Comcrap (I highly recommend it). So, they send a collection agency after me for $105. I dispute the claim, get a letter back that the collection agency will not pursue it. A month later, a different collection agency comes after me. I dispute the claim (in writing as instructed), I hear nothing. Collection agency 2 calls me months later, I ask if they received my dispute and tell them I'm not paying for a service that was never provided. They confirm they got my dispute, I ask why they are calling and when they will decide on the dispute, I don't get a direct answer.
Later, I see this crap on my credit report, so I send all my communication off to the credit reporting agency, but they tell me it's under dispute and not resolved so it stays on my credit report.

...flash forward to today. 8 months later. I get a call from a new collections agency on behalf of comcast. I ask what I need to do to dispute and she says, they have that recorded. I say, ok, then why are you calling me? I get put on hold. She tells me I have to take it up with comcast (which I've done a few times even since cancelling the service).

What options are left to me? When a large corporation tries to steal from a customer (which I consider billing for a service that was never provided to be theft), what can the customer do?

I'd send them a bill for all of my time they'd wasted.

I had a credit union continually mess up the automated withdrawals for my car and student loan repayments many years ago. I asked them what they charged me if I had issues with my account - insufficient funds, things like that. I then multiplied that by the number of times they had messed up my account (12 by that time) and that they should expect a bill from me and a discussion with a lawyer about harassment. That very same day they actually had someone call me, got it all straightened away, and apologized profusely. A couple days after that I received credit vouchers for a local gas station chain far below the amount of those fees. Two weeks after that I closed my accounts with the credit union.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Is anyone else having problems with the desktop version of the board not being able to reply to a post or quote a post? Whenever I click the reply or reply with quote buttons, all I get is a spinning loading icon until I click it a second time and it opens up a new page for a full quote. Then it doesn't automatically load the new page when I submit the reply?

Using Firefox.

Working fine in IE11. Don't have Firefox on my work PC. At home, last night it worked fine using Chrome.

In some states, you can file a claim against Comcast in small claims court. You don't need an attorney. There is a filing fee and a process-server fee and that's it. You win the claim, and they have to pay you back for those fees. The problem in your situation is how to quantify what they owe you.

We had a problem with a landlord who withheld part of a security deposit for damage done by Hurricane Irene. Won that claim to recover that money plus the fees.

Get a lawyer and file a suit against Comcast (or the current collection agency). The only way to get this finally resolved is by going through the courts.

Did you record the calls? Otherwise you won't get the claim in your favour.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

I wonder if it could be Firefox blocking out-of-date java or some other plugin

Ok, this has to be it. The refresh language calls Java so I'm guessing firefox is being "clever" without telling me. Frustrating.

And if Comcast is doing this to one person, they're probably doing it to a 150,000. Make it a class-action! :p

Ok, I updated Java, restarted and it was fixed. Must have been the problem.

Weird. I had that happen to me a couple years back. I called them and within five minutes he had my account credited for all of the months I had it on there and made sure it wasn't on there since then.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Although, looking at my bill, I'm now being charged for region sports ($1) and broadcast TV ($1.5) What a farking scam.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Someone honked at me for stopping at a yellow light. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Yellow does not mean "gun it". The people that run yellow and red lights seem to be getting bolder and more numerous. How many times do we have to learn this lesson? That 2 minutes you might save is not worth someone's life. Your time is NOT more important than everyone else's time.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Re: Comcast.

Had an over zealous sales rep stop by the home my wife and I just purchased. Three times, over the span of five days this guy stopped by. Was relentless. Finally, last night I told him I was just fine with my tv/internet package, I would do the self install / activation at the new place myself when I had the chance, and if I needed anything I would contact him.

Was awoken this morning to a phone call from Comcast, confirming the X1 service I never ordered. Stopped by the Comcast office after work to ask about my service, to which the representative asked if I had any hiccups in service at my current address...

Turns out over-zealous a**hat decided at one a.m. to find my account and "upgrade" me to X1 service and to conveniently schedule a visit for next Monday to ensure that service was set up to my new house. In the process, made sure to conveniently jump my bill $40.

I'm p***ed.

I would take the time to write Comcast an actual letter on that one. Snail mail type letter, don't send an email. They'll respond to an old fashioned postage received, and if you can name the guy, do so. Let them know that they're treading on thin ice, such un-requested changes to your account will have tales spread far and wide. They will respond to that.
