Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

At my work, it's "John had a death in the family" announcement at the morning meeting, and that's it, unless "John Doe" says it's okay to get more specific.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

"John Doe is on leave for a bit" is all we get, whether "a bit" turns out to be a few days, a few weeks, or in one case, permanent.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

At Sam's, it's detailed. Everyone in the Club knew of my mother's death.

Just recently, a coach's (boss) father died; they let everyone know where the visitation was.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

We get bereavement notices all the time. Just today got one in my inbox. No idea who it was- if they were a relative or a worker here.

I delete them. And when the time comes for me, I will ask NOT to send them out- as the people who would want to know will find out from me. I don't want random people stopping by and pretending that they actually care about someone dying that they have no idea who it was. Your apparent grief does not help, as I know your apparent support is fake- since I have no idea who you even are.

That would **** me off. Why the hell is that kind of thing everyone's business? If I want people to know my personal business I'll tell them.

"I hope this email/message finds you well."

Who do you think you are, Gandalf?

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Wife and I were having a conversation about something earlier tonight, and during it, something hit me. It was a song that I wanted to download or at least I wanted to check out other music from that band. Filed it away, and continued with the conversation. Now, 3 hours later, I've been trying to remember what hit me, what band was it, because I have no clue. So frustrating.

I know the feeling. I want to get the Hank III song we heard at the bar this past weekend, but can't remember the name of it.

If I'm reading this right, you prefer over the top, not roll-behind? If so, I agree.
I may be the only person in the known universe on the fence on this topic. Over the top is far superior in terms of actually operating the roll - so much easier to find the end and to tear off exactly the intended amount. However, if there are small kids or pets around who get a kick out of making a mess, you pretty much have to roll-behind. So I can see both points of view and don't criticize anyone's life choices...on this topic.

So does every hotel I've ever stayed at.

and so does everyone who has been ill, thrown up and weakly reached for the roll, it is so much easier to pull it down and forward when you are partially incapacitated.

A few months ago, I bought a 20-lb back of charcoal.

Today I went to get some more. The "20-lb" bag is now 18.6-lb bag. Price is the same though.

That's a backdoor price increase of 7.53%. :(

Not as bad as peppercorns, though. The 4 oz size now only holds 3 oz. Same price. Same size box even.

There are some men in this world who need to realize that, for them, no matter how long they go without shaving, they will never have a beard.
