Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

A few months ago, I bought a 20-lb back of charcoal.

Today I went to get some more. The "20-lb" bag is now 18.6-lb bag. Price is the same though.

That's a backdoor price increase of 7.53%. :(

Not as bad as peppercorns, though. The 4 oz size now only holds 3 oz. Same price. Same size box even.

Shrinkage? :D

What if they serve #browns at their #Wedding?

It took me 90 minutes to finally get that joke. :o

Another gear grinder: TV stations extending run times by adding commercials. Comedy Central has started making South Park 31-32 minutes. Only South Park though, a little confused by that. I rarely watch TV Land, but whenever I pass it on the guide I notice their shows all run 36 minutes now. 14 minutes of commercial for 22 minutes of show isn't even worth it. Plus it's probably like 15 and 21 now that they cut out the intro for most shows.

Having to slow down for kids who weren't taught to look both ways before crossing the street.

But..but..I PUSHED THAT LITTLE BUTTON!! THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MAGICALLY STOP ALL THE TRAFFIC SO I CAN CROSS!! MAYBE I SHOULD PUSH IT 4-5 MORE TIMES!!

Do not glare at me and flip me off when I honk at you because you were drifting into my lane because you were texting and driving in a state where texting and driving is illegal!

I have a civil engineering degree and even I'm convinced that button doesn't actually do anything.

My wife punched the button once to cross between streets- and being a law in Michigan- some people stopped.

Once someone was killed by a driver who was trying to speed by ones who legally stopped. Another time, someone who legally stopped got rear-ended by a clueless driver.

People just don't pay attention.

I thought the "rule" for Ann Arbor pedestrians was that if you make eye-contact with the driver, you have the right-of-way. :)

I at least wait until the car is stopped. But we do maintain eye contact with most until we are by. I wonder if they think we don't trust them... they'd be right. ;)

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

What an asinine policy.

I called the Visionworks in Burnsville to see if my new glasses were ready for pick up today since they were due yesterday but I never heard from the shop. Bubbly Kim tells me that since they didn't call me, the glasses arrived on time. This is the first time I've ever purchased glasses and not had the shop call me to tell me they were ready to be picked up. I normally use a different Visionworks shop, the one by my office, but I lost a pair while on vacation and didn't want to wait to get back in the office before dealing with it. Given this crap policy of the Burnsville store, I'm very much of the mind that I'll simply wait and use my normal shop if I ever lose my glasses again.

Yeah, but with it being Art Fair this week, there's a lot of non-native drivers around, so ya better keep your head on a swivel when you're crossing the streets there and you really gotta hit some of those drivers with the Glare to make sure they're stopping.
