Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

I agree. The quality just isn't there to support a 12 team field and the bye team is at a disadvantage. Aren't you also just going to end up with more inter-conference games as well? What's the point of the regular season then?

Don't the number of sponsoring schools warrant an expansion to 9?

Re: Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

The NCAA already quakes at the prospect of putting three teams on airplanes for the quarters. Do you honestly think they are going to pay for another round? When they do, I doubt we're going to see the #12 team matched with #5 very often. Sending Northeastern to BC last year showed us just how little anyone cares about putting together a decent tournament before the FF.

Re: Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

no, no, no, expand the tournament to 16 teams
hundreds of people will be standing in line to see them play

How many Canadians are on D1 rosters? Last year Clarkson was 90% Canadian. This year they dropped down to 73%, partly because they started collecting Minnesotans!

Here's a sampling of 15 teams

Team.......... No of players....... No of Canadians......... % of Canadians
RIT....................23........................ 17........................73.91%
Clarkson............22..........................16........................72.73%
Colgate.............21..........................13........................61.90%
Princeton..........20...........................10........................50.00%
BU...................23...........................11........................47.83%
St Lawrence......23........................... 9.........................39.13%
Wisconsin.........23............................8..........................34.78%
Quinnipiac........24............................8...........................33.33%
UND................26............................8...........................30.77%
Bemidji State....25............................7...........................28.00%
Ohio State........22............................6............................27.27%
UMD................22............................5............................22.73%
Northeastern.....24...........................4.............................16.67%
Minnesota.........25...........................3.............................12.00%
BC...................23...........................1.............................4.35%

I know we dealt with this last year too, but Brown's wins over (winless) Sacred Heart are giving them a huge boost to their RPI -- they would be in the .3800 range if those games were ignored, but instead they're at .4349.

In fact, had Brown only played two games so far against (winless!) Sacred Heart, and nothing else, their RPI would be .6028, good enough to be on the NCAA tournament bubble.

That's nuts. BC or someone else decent out east would do well to try and game the system. Maybe then they'll fix the PWR.

I wonder why USCHO hasn't put their KRACH up yet?

I still haven't added Post into mine but its effect will obviously be minimal.

I thought they tried that last season ;)

Seriously though some Eastern team could do that but the world of womens hockey is so small I think the team would lose respect not gain it.

And only one bus ride in round one.
I count three bus rides with the way the PWR sit in Grant's post: Cornell at SLU, UM at UMD, and BC at Clarkson. Only RMU at UW would be a flight. But overall, I agree with Eeyore.

1. Wisco
2. SLU
3. UMD
4. CCT
5. UMTC
6. BC
7. Bobby Mo
8. Cornell

That would give
Cornell @ Wisconsin
RMU @ SLU
BC @ UMD
UMTC @ CCT

Did I miss something?

Yes. Only top four are seeded. After that the priority is minimizing flights, not "bracket integrity." Plenty of history on this.

27,000+ posts and you missed how the NCAA handles the playoffs?
