Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

Re: Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

If the season lasted long enough, Union would have a decent chance of outscoring Minnesota. But as it is, I don't know that the Dutchwomen have enough games left to score the 91 that UM already has (and will add to that total).

This thread has given me more laughs today than I've had in the last month. Keep up the good work. :)

Re: Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

So I just noticed that the CHA tournament is going to be different this year -- instead of there being a best of 3 series for the quarterfinals like everyone else, all 6 teams have an extra regular season weekend while the other conferences have their quarterfinals.

Then, championship weekend, there will be games on three straight days: Single elimination for the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2nd (top two seeds have a bye), Semifinals on Friday, March 3rd, and then the Championship game on Saturday, March 4th.

I'll have this reflected in my tournament predictor, which will be !!!LIVE!!! on Sunday, February 19th!

SLU losing today warms up the airline stock industry
1. Wisconsin
2. Minnesota Duluth
3. Minnesota
4. St Lawrence
5. Boston College
6. Clarkson
7. Cornell
8. Robert Moses

There are going to be 3 flights involved. So let's keep the pairings as they line up
Robert Morris @ Wisconsin (flight)
Cornell @ UMD (flight)
Clarkson @ Minnesota (flight)
BC @ SLU (bus)

To cut costs, we do the following:

In keeping with the D3 philosophy of packing as many women's teams on the same flight as possible, we have Clarkson and Cornell on the same flight out of Syracuse to MSP and then take buses to their respective games. They then take the same flight back and bus back to their respective campuses before flying the following week (again from Syracuse), along with SLU to St. Louis. :)

BC would be thanking their lucky stars they wouldn't have a WCHA quarterfinal match up.

Re: Fun With Numbers: Pairwise, KRACH, and Otherwise '16-'17

I just plugged in results for the rest of the regular season with making the "better team"* win every game, and this is the PWR that resulted:

1 Wisconsin
2 St. Lawrence
3 Clarkson
4 Minnesota-Duluth
5 Boston College
6 Minnesota
7 Robert Morris
8 Cornell
9 Northeastern (I assumed NE beat BU)
10 Princeton
11 Quinnipiac
12 Colgate

I added a new feature to my Pairwise calculator that might interest the rest of you -- I've added the old Pairwise "grid" that USCHO used to have but got rid of last year when they had to fix their formula. The grid shows on its own tab. You can also input two teams in the dropdowns at the top and it will allow you to see the details of the comparison.
