Strength of schedule:
1 MN
2 WI
3 Cornell
4 UMD
.
.
.
14 BC
I wasn't throwing a dig at either team, I was just providing information lol. The USCHO PWR doesn't update for a while after the game.

1 Boston College -- Taylor Blake, after more than two years, finally gets to prove that she's a perfectly good DI goalie and BC has #optionsingoal. Also, the best fourth line in women's college hockey rolls on.
2 Minnesota -- recent results continue to suggest that Minnesota and Wisconsin are almost exactly as good as each other except when Minnesota is way better.
3 Quinnipiac -- a remorseless juggernaut of hope-crushing terror, with Cianfarano back to early-season form and Darkangelo showing up on scoresheets as well.
4 Wisconsin -- recent results continue to suggest that Minnesota and Wisconsin are almost exactly as good as each other except when Wisconsin is way worse.
5 Harvard -- new policy of playing more than five skaters per game continues to pay dividends.
6 Boston University -- WINP and OPWP both just below Harvard's, here's your ranking.
7 Mercyhurst -- Holding pattern waiting to do battle with fearsome SYRACUSE
8 Clarkson -- Solid against Cornell, non-explosive against Colgate, continue to suggest they could on their day get past anyone.
9 Minnesota-Duluth -- the needle stutters on the record; the listener stops, puts it back, hears what they expect this time.
10 Ohio State -- only team not named so far that have a WINP above 60%, and 6 percentage points above the next highest WINP (the Mighty MIDJ)

In the conversation: St. Lawrence, Bemidji State, Cornell, Dartmouth. In a related but slightly different conversation, probably about bees: Princeton, North Dakota, Penn State.

1) Boston College

7) Minnesota-Duluth
8) Clarkson
9) Ohio State
10) Mercyhurst

1-6 are easy. After that, it's a mess.

1 Boston College -- I was going to move Minnesota up had they swept Wisconsin. It's really close.
2 Minnesota -- Definite #2 now.

3 Wisconsin -- Minnesota is solidly in 2nd now but 3rd place is not close.

4 Quinnipiac -- Sticking around
5 Harvard -- On quite a streak. Clear #5. One QU slip up away from being #4.
6 Boston University -- They put a scare into BC but then barely held off Maine? I don't know, man.

7 Minnesota-Duluth -- Split against Bemidji -- again -- they are solidly below the top 6.
8 Clarkson -- Nice weekend, especially tying the resurgent Cornell.
9 Ohio State -- Definitely deserves to be here.
10 Mercyhurst -- Idle. Both in terms of not playing anyone this weekend and in terms of them not really having their foot on the gas.

Carpenter-Skarupa………….Brandt-Cameranesi, my guess is both teams are happy with the two they have and wouldn't trade for the other:)

Judging by the talk, BC has more depth than MN, but betting against MN is always hard to do!

I think BC has to stay No. 1 as long as it is unbeaten. Should that change, then you have to seriously consider the fact that 17 of UM's first 23 games have been against TUC.

8 Clarkson -- Nice weekend, especially tying the resurgent Cornell.
It's getting late in the game for ties with teams below you to be a plus.

9 Ohio State -- Definitely deserves to be here.
Mainly because nobody else deserves to be here.

10 Mercyhurst -- Idle. Both in terms of not playing anyone this weekend and in terms of them not really having their foot on the gas.
The computer rankings have no love for the Lakers at this point. It's one thing to pile up wins versus a weak schedule. It's another to mix in some clunkers in that pile. Their SLU series will be big for the human polls.

100% agree, but any blemish in BC's record, assuming MN keeps rolling, puts them #2
SOS as of last I checked
Mercyhurst around 50:eek:
BC a little over 100 :o
MN over 250

those of you who put WI under Quinnie

Minnesota's first half can best be described by this classic novel

I hold BC's schedule against them, hence my ranking. If they would have blown out BU, I would have thought harder about moving them ahead of UW, but all 3 of UW's loses are to UM, it's hard to hit them too much for that (plus the eye test says UM and UW are very close). BC and UM have 4 games against ranked opponents and UW has 6.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

BC and UM have 4 games against ranked opponents and UW has 6.
UM has 9: UW(4); BU(1); UMD(2); OSU(2).
UW has 8: UM(4); UMD(2); OSU(2).
BC has 2: Harvard(1); BU(1). Cornell just fell out of the rankings and will likely be back, so this can change quickly.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

this week BU plays Cornell, Northeastern, & Quinie, BC plays Vermont :o
I think I'd be more worried about getting past BU than what may happen in the NCAA.

If MN & BC get to the NCAA final, MN will likely have played WI 6 times and BC none, plus the Gophers will have played 2 of BC’s tougher opponents while BC hasn’t played any of MN’s, so in that situation I like the Gophers chances. Of course it is not unheard of for the top ranked teams to not make it past the quarter or semi final, but again, having played a tough schedule, I like the Gophers chances.

Mankato will have played Minnesota and Wisconsin a combined 8-13 times should they make it to the final, plus Duluth and Ohio State another 8+ times. That in and of itself doesn't mean they would be favored in the final against whoever they would play.

Congratulations. You are the new leader for stupid example of the week. :p

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

1. BC - Practice is more difficult than their games.
2. Minnesota - Could only gather 11 of 12 points from the Badgers this year. They're going down the tubes.
3. Wisconsin - Finally snapped the winless streak against the rodents to see a little light at the end of the tunnel (hopefully not a train called BC)
4. Quinnipiac - It seems like a loss when they don't get a shutout.
5. Harvard - Fear of eagles therapy may be working
6. BU - Loss to NU looks bad at this point.
7. UMD - Evidently, they're on the way back to being a dynasty.
8. Ohio State - The most inconspicuous entry into the top ten but 14 wins playing in the WCHA is nothing to sneeze at.
9. Clarkson - Nobody is going to want to play them in a one and done because on any given day...
10. Mercyhurst - Playing a team with a pulse would be nice to see.

Hey look, yet another team that has to fly out west to play Minnesota or Wisconsin without a return date!*

*I assume there is no return date, if there is one next year I will tip my cap, although Clarkson isn't exactly a power, despite the storybook Olympic year run to the title.

But if BC would have gotten it done, Olympic year or no, oh my what greatness, all the bells in Boston would have been ringing for days. ;)
