Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

1. Minnesota
2. Boston College -- basically neck and neck
3. Wisconsin -- basically neck and neck and neck
4. Quinnipiac -- more consistent than Harvard
5. Harvard -- more potential than Quinni
6. Boston University -- some way back from Harvard, need to show they can win a tough game. Now, anyone know where they might find a tough game?
7. Minnesota-Duluth -- seems like a long time till their next game, and Bemidji will be looking for a spot of redemption. Very hard to rank at the moment.
8. Mercyhurst -- good WINP, but OPWP at 35% is a full 5 percentage points lower than anyone else else. Need to show they can win a tough game. Syracuse in two weeks, twice, doesn't count, sorry.
9. Clarkson -- still feels like they could win against anyone on the right day
10. Ohio State -- they've scrapped their way in here.

Also receiving consideration: Bemidji, obviously; St Lawrence (but would be good to get their goalie situation sorted out), Cornell, North Dakota, and oh... let's say... Dartmouth.

Some interesting questions from various finals sampled from the top ten teams after the break.

1. BC - How far east can you go before you are heading west?
2. Minnesota - Is it wrong for a vegetarian to eat animal crackers?
3. Wisconsin - Answer yes or no to fill in the blank _____ I have no brains.
4. Quinnipiac - If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do the rest have to drown, too?
5. Harvard - What is the opposite of opposite?
6. BU - 1 + 1 =
7. UMD - If olive oil is made from olives then what is baby oil made of?
8. Clarkson - What is a picture of a thousand words worth?
9. Ohio State - True or false. A part-time band director is a semi-conductor.
10. Mercyhurst - What color does a choking smurf turn?

I am assuming that the players who were at the Nations Cup (Bach, Lefort, and Doyle for BU; Capizzano for BC) will be back for tonight's game, albeit a bit jet lagged. Is Burt the only person that we know is out?

Yes from what I understand -- saw on Twitter that Capizzano is expected back in plenty of time so I assume the BU girls are as well.

Burt is it for BC and I still have no clue who is starting in goal for us... My guess is Switaj (pronounced SWEE-tie, by the way) but that's based on literally nothing.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

Shhhhhh... the Crimson on a quietly impressive run in December and January (so far). Recent scores suggest that some of their Chestnut Hill neighbors might be donning Harvard jerseys for these games. I'm beginning to think that the top tier of the Top 10 might have to make room for a new member in the penthouse suite.

I know the Crimson are playing weaker opponents in Jan, but they are thrashing these opponents. Compare to recent games by Quinny vs same opponents and I think Harvard is showing they have emerged as the best team in ECAC. Sorry Quinny, but they also beat you in last game of 2014. Seems like a fair assessment to me.
