Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

As for setting up a series with Minnesota (and Wisconsin) -- contacts have been made and every year we are told "no."
Are you the one asking? Well no wonder …

Look at Minnesota's schedule this year: SLU is paying back a trip from two years ago, Minnesota paid back a trip to Princeton from last year, and then they did a showcase w/ Penn State and BU. About the only opening is if you had wanted to come out for a showcase game. Did you offer that?

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

Sure, the eastern pool is a lot bigger, but I bet OSU, UMD, BSU or UND would love to play BC. At least there would be some effort shown on BC's part.
I do know that BC is playing a western team next year though it's not official yet.

Are you the one asking? Well no wonder …

TTT20, What kind of specific info do you have that BC has reached out to UM and UW about playing them and got the cold shoulder?

Dodging the question isn't the same as answering the question.

Specific info please.

It's exactly what I said. BC has asked and is turned down.
BC has asked? What does that mean? What specifically is your source of information that "BC has asked"?

I know that schedule information is NOT something that you heard from contacts with people actually inside the BC program during your attendance at BC home games. You live in Connecticut and do not regularly attend BC home games.

You have a fan website, are we to believe that people actually inside the BC program regularly update you on scheduling information?

I am not saying that they don't, it might be true that people with jobs inside the program take time to update a fan site. The level of enthusiasm and dedication to advancement of the program of your website is impressive and I am willing to believe that they give you information if that is what you are claiming.

But what we are asking is just exactly that. We want you to say how it is you know that "BC has asked".

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

I'd like to know who was asked...but I suppose that file will not be declassified in the time I have remaining.

Come on guys, he clearly has reliable sources and always has in the past. I don't see you giving up sources, I wouldn't and he shouldn't have to.

And most people with any connections to the programs can get scheduling info ahead of time. I mean at annual meetings they talk about them. Our men's hockey coach told about our big deal with Mich St months ago, at a free dinner open to anyone really.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

Geez I didn't mean for this to get all instense. Why would I jeopardize any relationships I've built because MBTC demands to know how I know something?

I'm not trying to sound all mysterious here but seriously if someone posts in the recruit thread no one jumps down their throat demanding how they know. No one in the men's forum screams B.S. when someone says Joey Smith is out with the mumps.

I mean seriously to DogHouse's point women's hockey is a small enough community, information isn't exactly locked away in the locker room.

If I say "I know because I know" I sound like an ass but what else am I supposed to say? That's why I'm sidestepping the question.

On a side note:

The level of enthusiasm and dedication to advancement of the program of your website is impressive.

This is really sincerely appreciated.

I have had conversations with people with knowledge about the process Minnesota follows in setting future schedules. As noted by DogHouse, most people with any connections to the program can have these conversations.

I absolutely know for a fact that all DI programs including BC are included in inquiries made by Minnesota about openings in their schedules which might coincide with openings in the Minnesota schedule.

No such coincidental openings in the respective schedules of Minnesota and BC have been available in recent years.

I have no such information regarding the scheduling practices of Wisconsin but . . .

The problem with it is that you put it out there as though to say UW and UM are scared to play BC, and you've reached that conclusion because BC asks and is told, "no." But what is missing is why they declined. Was it because they didn't have room, the dates didn't match, there wasn't money in the budget, they didn't want to make the schedule any tougher than it already is, or because everyone was afraid to play BC long before there was any reason to fear the Eagles? So more important than how you know, do you also know the reason? Don't answer that, because if somebody tells you something off the record, the intent is that you don't reveal the information in addition to not revealing the source.

If a WCHA team plays 3 or 4 nonconference opponents, that means there are 22 or 23 that they don't play every year. I think it is mostly just about numbers.

I don't doubt that someone would tell you that & rather than the quibbling we have had here what I'd like to look at is why would the Gophers duck BC? It's not like they are a perennial powerhouse striking fear in the hearts of WCHA teams. MN has played BU, who has a stronger history and other programs that pop up in the top 10 regularly. So it either would have to be money or incompatible open dates (unless they fear maroon and gold coming at them :) ). I believe you I just think your source is not presenting a full picture.

Wish I had the link to UND's Idolski whining about seeding a couple of years ago. He wished there was more interleague play so he could have proven his team deserved to be in. Ignoring the source it's a valid complaint but who can make that happen? If the coach thinks that is the key they would need to go to their AD & explain how the AD is hampering th development of the program & fight for more travel. (BTW - Idolski also blamed his teams lack of heart for the loss that finished them - he's a real class act too)

different topic:
On a story about ASU moving to D-I mens hockey I read that ESPN estimates it costs $2.8 million (on average) to run a D-I program, I doubt the womens is much cheaper despite the lack of travel. Given that so many colleges appear to be squeezing nickles pretty hard these days I do wonder if hockey in general and women's more specifically might not suffer some retraction.

As I sit trying a new banana bread recipe (link later) I was thinking that the "fun" has gone a wee bit askew in the thread with all the scheduling talk so I got to thinking about what I learned certain players from the last poster poll top ten were doing over the break.

1. BC - Alex Carpenter - Found she was working on a project to sew bullseyes onto the back of BC's jerseys. The ones I saw she had done looked pretty sweet.
2. Minnesota - Sydney Baldwin - She is involved in a workout regimen of hanging upside down holding weights with her arms to try and become a "towering" defensemen like Megan Keller.
3. Wisconsin - Karley Sylvester - She is taking a cooking class called "Foods our ancestors ate" and is specializing in gopher stew and gopher pot pie. She did mention that it is therapeutic to chop the heads off of gophers and by the way, she says gophers taste like chicken.
4. Quinnipiac - Emma Woods - She's in the middle of a Netflix marathon of Gossip Girl episodes so didn't have much to say. Honestly...Not much you can say to that.
5. Bemidji - Brittni Mowat - She is reading all the hockey books she can find. She currently has Ken Dryden's "The game" and next up is Stephen Brunt's "Searching for Bobby Orr." Impressive.
6. UMD - Zoe Hickel - Found her simply sitting in the dorm lounge with a distracted look on her face. I didn't even have to ask.
7. BU - Victoria Bach - She joined a pagan club. Alrighty then...It's like Bobby Boucher's mama says "BU is the devil"
8. Mercyhurst - Emily Janiga - She is working on the craft of cross stitching. Pretty interesting stuff but I didn't think anybody did this anymore.
9. Harvard - Lyndsey Fry - She is attending a Tony Robbins seminar called "Unleash the Power Within." That definitely seems like something she (and her teammates) could use.
10. Clarkson - Erin Ambrose - She's getting training on small engine repair on account of having to use the snow blower so much this year.

*Of note is the fact that recent game results will at least move down or possibly move out both Bemidji and Mercyhurst from the top ten.

I didn't mean to question your "insiderness", I have no knowledge of your qualifications. I was hoping you could site a newspaper article or the like. On the men's side, there is some transparency in my experiences with UW men's hockey n/c scheduling as far as what's cooking.

I happen to know (from unnamed sources ;) ) that Erin is reading books on King Arthur and Merlin and is looking for potions to turn certain teammates into the 2nd coming of Rattray, Mercer, Gagnon, Styner, Plante, Nisbet and Howe ;) .

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

Add walnuts and this dessert would be perfect. Of coarse every dessert is better with walnuts or pecans or almonds or cashews (take your pick). :) ;)

I actually added pecans since I had those so I would concur with you. This turns out pretty intense on the chocolate flavor so you have to be into that.

Outstanding...I should add that gif of the actor playing Orson Wells clapping but that is above my pay-grade. :)
