Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodies

Alright I'll get this party started for week 2 of the Posters Poll

1) Boston College
2) Minnesota
3) Wisconsin
4) Harvard
5) Cornell
--gap--
6) Boston University
7) North Dakota
8) Northeastern
9) Clarkson
10) Mercyhurst

No changes as the only one of my top 10 that played was Wisconsin. I am a bit worried, though, at how thoroughly they slaughtered Lindenwood even without several top players. I almost moved them up a spot. Is Lindenwood supposed to be worse this year, or...?

1. Minnesota
2. Wisconsin
3. Boston College
4. Harvard
5. UMD
6. Boston University
7. Cornell
8. North Dakota
9. Clarkson
10. Quinnipiac

That tie to UConn really blew you away enough to move up UMD 2 spots, eh?

I didn't know UConn was held in such high regard out west

I've never put much stock in opening season games, one way or the other. And in the opener UMD obviously had serious goaltending issues, which they should figure out pretty quickly. And lastly they did dominate play, if the shot totals are any indication.

1. Wisconsin
2. Minnesota
3. Harvard
4. Boston College
5. Cornell
6. BU
7. Northeastern
8. Mercyhurst
9. North Dakota
10. MN Duluth

No change for me. UMD gets a pass on the Tie with UCONN. Chuli may be the best goalie in the country. She keeps them in so many games.

I have to ask so UMD tying UConn is worth a pass but NU losing by 1 to a professional team (our starting goalie held them tied) and we drop out of most polls?

As for people dropping Northeastern, maybe they looked at your schedule and see that you've decided to become a CHA team, and voters are thus treating you like they would any other CHA team not named Mercyhurst? As for UMD tying UConn, look at it this way: the Bulldogs have a longer active winning streak over UConn than BC does. :p Really at this point in the season, I just vote for the first 10 teams I can remember. Or I don't vote at all. ;)

For me only one change. UMD does NOT get a complete pass for that first game bumble at UConn. I drop them to 10th, moving Qu up to 9.

2 Wisconsin
3 Harvard

I dropped them 2 spots, I did not realize 1/3 of the roster was new, plus the tie hurts them.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

1) Wisconsin
2) Minnesota
3) Boston College
4) Harvard
5) Cornell
6) Mercyhurst
7) Quinnipiac
8) Boston University
9) RIT
10) Bemidji State

A couple of those seem kind of dumb but I can't think of who else to put in there.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

1) Boston College -- Everything I hoped they would be
2) Wisconsin (+1) -- Starting to look pretty scary
3) Minnesota (-1) -- Took care of business, just dropped them because was more impressed with Wisconsin
4) Harvard -- Good week against Bye
5) Cornell -- Struggled against Bye but put them away as good teams do
--gap--
6) Boston University -- I wanted to drop them but the teams close to them below them struggled more. Unimpressive weekend out west.
7) Bemidji State (+4) -- OH HAY
8) Northeastern -- Beat the high school team they played. Neat.
9) Mercyhurst (+1) -- Two shutouts against a bad team is still decent.
10) Quinnipiac (+1) -- Much like last year, they don't really do anything of note, ever, and yet linger at the bottom of the rankings.

Dropped out:

North Dakota -- ALOL at North Dakota and Duluth, you western fans talking about having 3 of the top 5 best teams in the country are starting to look silly.
Clarkson -- Knew they were going to have a drop off but a split with SLU is not good.
