frozen four attendance

Re: frozen four attendance

I was talking it over with BBDL yesterday at the airport. A seven-year rotation would be almost perfect. Tampa, St. Paul, Boston, Denver, Detroit, then two wild cards. Places like Nashville, DC, Vegas, etc.

I would hate to see them forego places like Philly and Boston where there are great places to go and see historical landmarks. I like the destination trips like Tampa, but some enrichment is nice.

I would do Tampa again, but I don't need it every year. Our money was on Detroit, (BBDL said) Glendale was a likelihood due to the NCAA wanting to reward ASU, and i can't remember what the third was but I would like to see Nashville or DC.
The stadium area is perfect for a frozen four with lots of restaurants and bars right there and hotels. There are other things to do but it will be interesting to see what happens in the next round if the Coyotes move on by then or whatever...I certainly would expect Glendale to be in the running if they bid.

and Detroit is getting a new arena...

That too.

Do you know when they announce the next set of sites?

Re: frozen four attendance

So then UNLV won't be able to follow through on their initiative to add D-1 hockey? Ever see a College Hockey Betting line at Caesar's? What was the spread on Quinnipiac/BC?

Has Las Vegas ever hosted a Final Four or basketball regional? No, I don't think so. They had a very strong pumpkin pushing program back in the early- to mid-90s. There's a difference between having a program in the area and hosting a national championship tournament, and the NCAA simply won't allow a championship to be held in that city - because people clearly can't use the internet to post bets these days regardless of the city in which the games are played.

Re: frozen four attendance

A buddy of mine just came back from Nashville. He was there for a convention. Stayed right near strip, said it was unreal, bar, then barbeque, then bar, then barbeque etc up and down the whole strip. Bumper to bumper people in all the bars, music, drinking until 3 in the morning. He got back Saturday and he was still holding his head today :) I guess the arena is at one end of the strip.

Re: frozen four attendance

Detroit is tied for 3rd most hosted frozen fours ever. I think they belong in a rotation with a new arena. The area where they're building the new rink is near Comerica Park/Ford Field and actually pretty nice.

Providence, Colorado Springs, and Milwaukee are also top 7 but too small now, or no good rink. That leaves Boston, St. Paul, Detroit, Denver and potential rotational locations along with Tampa. You throw in a wild card every 4 years and rotate the rest, you're doing good I think. I also think with what it is, you could put DC in the rotation.

Boston, Detroit, Washington, Random, St. Paul, Tampa, Denver, Random seems good to me.

Are the red wings getting a new arena? If so ok but after that i don't know, about it being in a rotation.

Why should Detroit not be in a rotation. Brand new arena. Central location. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, bars, etc within walking distance or a People Mover ride. What's wrong with Detroit?

Milwaukee is an NBA arena. How is it too small and or inadequate? They hosted just 10 years ago.
I for one wish they would go back. They put on a great event there.

Bradley Center is getting replaced and there are no plans to have ice making capabilities in the new facility.
EDIT: I guess its possible the new Milwaukee Bucks Arena will have ice making capabilities, but it will not be the home of the Milwaukee Admirals so a Frozen Four at the new Bucks Arena is possible.

Re: frozen four attendance

You've got Detroit confused with Flint, MI and Ferguson, MO.

Are you telling me that Detroit doesn't have a history of race riots, and that if the State of MI failed in keeping Flint inline that you're confident its other cities are any better - especially one with the repeated, and heavily reported, financial woes of Detroit?

Re: frozen four attendance

If you're looking for a destination with decent weather and things to do, LA (or Anaheim) should definitely be in consideration. With the success of the teams in the LA area and the college players that have helped make that success, they'd do better than the last time the FF was at the pond. Flights are easy and cheap, hotels are not horrible if you look toward Anaheim rather than the Staples Center (although they're still cheaper than Tampa). I also think San Jose would be a great host as they have become a "hockey town" but it's ridiculously expensive to get to.

It's really a shame that we can't market in the nation's largest city. MSG is probably too small for a FF now but they're hosting college hockey a couple of times per year now. I think the event would get lost in Manhattan though and the cost would be too much for most (although again, hotels near Amalie were every bit as expensive as midtown Manhattan). A FF in Brooklyn could be a possibility but you're away from the tourist attractions and that arena is an abomination of an NHL arena (fitting for the Asslanders).
