frozen four attendance

No way on Detroit, yick. Replace with Pittsburgh who did a pretty good job. Boston was great last year. But I'd keep the oddball Tampa in the mix for a change of pace once in awhile.

It's very likely the new Red Wings Arena will host the FF in the first few years after its open. Downtown Detroit has come a long way. I was there in December for the GLI and had a fantastic experience.

Re: frozen four attendance

Not sure why attendance for the Frozen Four is a question. Most, if not all, are sold out or close too it. My experience from the 14 FF I have attended is that both semi games have a ton of empty seats during the games. The fans of the late game stay put in a bar for a period or two watching the early game on TV. The fans of the early game often leave before the second game is finished especially if their team lost in the first game. The finals alway have a good crowd.

Re: frozen four attendance

I had a sales rep from the NCAA call me directly today trying to sell me FF tickets. I would think that Tampa attendance must be a concern if they are paying folks to do that.

Re: frozen four attendance

Have you been to a hockey event in Tampa? I was there for the '99 NHL AllStar Game. They did an outstanding job. The FF in '12 was very successful as well.

there were signs and banners everywhere. mookie stayed in a friends condo in largo and there were banners and signs there on streetlights on that side of the water too. rarely see that in other cities.

They have advertisements on Facebook as well. Just for S's and G's, I put in for 2 all-session passes and hit best available. Of the top 3 selections, I would have been able to get seats at center ice in the upper bowl. Center ice ... when I went to my first FF in Denver I sat in the very last row on an end.

This year, I chose distance over positioning. I'm on the blue line at the bottom of the upper bowl.

The neighborhood in and around the Detroit arena (and also the future Detroit arena), is MUCH, MUCH safer than the area around the United Center in Chicago. Yet people will flock to Chicago and be afraid of Detroit.

Some things will never change.
Chicago is 'cool'
Detroit is 'ick'

The frozen four sites need to alternate between St Paul, Denver, Detroit, and Boston. Tampa is not hockey country. Its a swamp.

Tampa is about 2 hours from the swamp. Everglades or Gainesville. Your choice.

Tampa did a pretty great job in 2012. The rink area is quite nice, the city is nice and easy to get around, and the rink itself is modern and quite nice as well.

I'm interested to see how the locals show. The Bolts have become quite popular, especially during their SCF run last year. Probably a fair amount of people jumping on a bandwagon, but it isn't a lost sport in the city.

Many people also forget that the Tampa area is overrun with snowbirds from Canada who love a good hockey game. I went to the Lightning - Toronto game there last winter and a third of the crowd was cheering for the Leafs. I agree that arena and area set up are fantastic. The only thing I did not like about the place was that the music between plays was at a dangerous decibel level. so much so that kids in the crowd were wearing earplugs.

Re: frozen four attendance

It appears there are far more seats available for this years games that in recent memory and surely a lot more than the last time
Tampa was the host. These are available directly from the arena ( mostly balcony) and then are hundreds of tickets on the ticket exchange run by the
NCAA and checking local sites such as craigslist there are also many tickets. Some have commented that it is too soon to have gone back to Tampa

I wonder if in light of this situation if the NCAA has increased the allotment to the individual schools. These are tickets that usually
sell out quickly. It would also be nice if the NCAA let the teams bring more than 25 band members
What else has anyone heard about the potential attendance?

They must have released some tickets recently, because when I was looking a couple months ago, they only tickets available were the last two rows of the upper deck.

FYI: Huge banners already up all over the Tampa Airport for the frozen four, and it's getting talk on the local sports talk radio. Way more exposure in the Bay area than what Milwaukee gave when I lived there in 2006

Re: frozen four attendance

I'd like to see Denver host again soon. Probably the only western market that has a chance of hosting again. St. Louis, Columbus, and DC would be cool as well. No idea how things went at these sites the last times they hosted but they're good hockey markets.

We are probably not representative of anything except poor choices, but we sold off our NCAA priority purchase tickets and had to turn around and buy from our school. Tampa was the worst experience in our eleven years - the city, not the games, so we sold out. Tampa gets another chance to offer up something interesting to do...

As probably the only "regular" poster that is a local, I'll be starting a thread this evening to discuss options on things to do.

Frankly, if you couldn't find anything to do last time, it's hard to believe you could easily find things to do elsewhere.

Potential Charlestown Chiefs fans... :D

About half the people in my suite this year are locals from Florida who are transplants from northern cities.
