Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

He had a quiet tourney, but he logged a lot of ice time. Was more of a speed/possession d-man, they have a ton of bigger similarly skilled d-men that took the more offensive roles.

Warsofsky's D was pretty lockdown all tourney. It looked to me like he accepted the fact that Carlson, Donovan and Fowler were gonna be the offensive d-men and he focused primarily on defense. And he did a great job of it as far as I'm concerned. Even against Sweden when he was on the ice for 2 goals, he had his man covered on both of them. He still started quite a few rushes throughout the tourney and jumped up on offense a few times, but that clearly wasn't his MO on this particular team.

He certainly wasn't afraid to be physical, either, despite his size disadvantage.

Hopefully he brings the memory of how to win with tenacity and grit back to BU!

Definitely agree with the assessment on Warsofsky. Very quiet tournament but made some plays. One of the few times I heard his name he plastered some schmuck into the glass in either the semis or a prelim game. Like I said, very quiet but a nice tourney for him, few mistakes, good passes, a surprising physical presence .

Regardless of allegiences, it's great to see a Mass kid bring home a gold medal.

That just doesn't make sense to me.

Apparently it got too cold out. I know, it's ice, cold is good, right? But the snow didn't melt like it usually does when the arena temperature is higher, and the actual ice surface is thinner I believe. So they can pamper the ice to be pristine at gametime, but the maintenance takes a lot more effort once it gets going. I think resurfacing needs to take place halfway through the 3rd for it to be playable.

Also, even if the rink manager gets the ice all nice again for Friday, it will be in the condition it was in OT of the Winter Classic by the time the first game of the doubleheader is over. Skate softly girls...

Also the puck is harder and bouncier than at an indoor rink. Ever play pond hockey when it's 10 degrees outside? Puck is like a piece of granite and very bouncy.

What? Pucks bounce less when they are colder. Why do you think they put them in freezers at the rink until they are needed?

Maybe bouncy was the wrong word. As temp gets colder the puck gets harder and ricochets a lot more. They don't freeze the pucks in indoor rinks as cold as the temp was in the third period of the Fenway game.

NU should be recruiting a lot of older kids and Canadian kids.

Currently, NU has 6 Canadians(would have been 7, but Thiessen left) on the roster and there are 3 more BCHL players coming in next year. Also, all of the freshman this year are 20 or 21 so Cronin is certainly doing what you think he should.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Does anyone know where they are going to put the bands at the park? And do you think the sections will be able to hear each other, Fenway is significantly bigger than Conte or Agganis, and there isn't a a roof to keep the sound in...

It could be tough. The older fans would actually have to cheer too, but I don't think that's too much to ask given how cool it would sound. The dueling chants in the Winter Classic came through loud and clear with no roof. If it's just the students chanting "Let's Go Eagles" and "Let's Go Terriers" though, it will be harder to hear.

I noticed on the BC website that Boston College will be wearing a very sharp looking third / comemmerative jersey on Friday night.

Any word on which jersey BU will be wearing?

They're getting a commemorative jersey too.

The BC jersey is gold for the base color... so probablly safe to assume ours will be scarlet as the base...
