Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Sure sounds funny to hear someone from the north country complain about the cold..Truth is this young Cortland team played your cards pretty tough, start to finish. Baldy just rolled his four lines, nothing fancy. Sure would be nice to read something positive about Cortland once in awhile instead of this petty BS. If your mighty cardinals think that they can beat Oswego with last nights effort their in for a long long evening. Lakers 5 -- plattsburgh 1

Your cool...where did he say anything bad about Cortland moron? Other then the "and the 40-60 Cortland fans had nothing to be ashamed of ". They did play "okay". After getting 4 quick shots on goal in the first 4-5 minutes they only managed 1 more in the first period, and the majority of their shots came on the PP. They got a goal on a lazy play from Williams and other then a handful of chances there wasn't any doubt who was winning the game, other then the crappy ice surface.

I don't know how a comment about how cold the rink was turned into a "bashing" of Cortland???? I joked with one of the student security guards and asked if they forgot to pay the heating bill... he got a chuckle out of it but said that they had opened the big overhead door earlier and let out all the heat.

Cortland did a great job of taking away passing lanes and blocking passes with their sticks. is that what you wanted to hear? I haven't read anything where someone said that Cortland played bad or that Plattsburgh was so much better. as a matter of fact, I thought it was a pretty boring game. I do believe that tonight's game will be a much better game.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

You can tell Baldy is really starting to turn a yearly cellar dweller into at least a mid pack SUNYAC team...

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Never been to Russell Sage Rink at Hamilton eh?

I don't think so, if so, it would have been in the late 80's early 90's, I have froze at Hobart, but as noted, I knew what to expect.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

You East folks don't know cold till you've watched a game at the Dunn Co. I'm sure West folks who have seen a game here will agree.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Brawl in the Elmira/Utica game breaks out.

As you can imagine theirs a flurry of penelties...

Mucci's a Cry Baby!! Pios can't "play with the best" so they do as they did last time these teams met, start taking the cheap shots.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

To be fair, I heard it was quite a "physical" match. So I guess it could be up for interpretation.
There were some really good hits unfortunately, UC couldn't match EC and the frustration took over, just like the last game they played. UC got away with a few cheap shots to the head IMHO.
EC handled the puck very well tonight and looked like they were "clicking" very well. Some great passes.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

How was the Oswego webcast last night?

If there are issues tonight I'm going to be P/oed!

Been looking forward to being able to watch this game all week.

Lets go lakers!!

Sounds like Dunn Co. is similar to the old unenclosed “cooler” at Hobart (since upgraded), but like the old Cooler, it appears you know what to expect when planning to attend, I was not expecting and did not plan on encountering outdoor conditions when I went to Cortland last night.

I have been to Dunn, and it doesn't take the prize from some of the eastern rinks based on the time I was there.

Cortland does seem to be getting colder and colder as the years go by. Budget cuts? :D

Pre-renovated Russell Sage was colder, however.

But nothing takes the cake like Nichols Arena where Canisius used to play. I was there last year for a youth tournament, and it's still as cold as ever. There were times in December where you would go outside between periods to WARM up. That's how bad it was.

Dunn isn't that bad, in my opinion.

Then again, most rinks aren't.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

I think that the coldest West arena, that I have been to, is the Ozaukee Ice Center, where Concordia, Wi. plays, followed by the Dunn.
Dunn was #1 before the heater bars were installed, above the spectator seats, a couple years.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

I've often joked about that at Kreitzberg. You can see from where I sit at the opposite end of the ice that the officials end up behind the gate where they enter somewhere between 2 and 3 minutes to go, but they always seem to make sure that their skates hit the ice when the clock says 2:00 exactly (or 7:00 for the first period). I've wondered why are they so precise about it - are they worried about a penalty for protocol violation? (Probably they'd only have to play one official short - one at a time in the box :) )

Probably worried about the supervisor of officials: he is a stickler for things that really don't matter...

Wow Thanks, "I'm cool and Moron" on my very first post, I've arrived. He said, "and the 40-60 Cortland fans had nothing to be ashamed of ", that's a complement?? Kinda like saying, "those 5-6 fat guys were rather dashing in those autographed Cardinal Jerseys". Boy you Plattsburg fans stick together, good for you. I guess my point is Cortland has played an extremely difficult schedule and although their record doesn't indicate it, they have more than held their own against some pretty tough teams, including Plattsburgh. I too could disect the game, but from my perspective Plattsburgh didn't look like a team vying for a national title. First goal on a bad give away in Cortland's end, second goal on a power play (after a 5 on 3 with only 1 shot on goal), empty net goal, etc...nothing special (at least last night). Not a dominating performance by any means from the #4 rank team against a perennial "bottom dweller". Shots were not as lopsided as your making them out to be. Your buddy called the game boring, I would too from your perspective. I've read this forum for many years and have learned to respect a lot of the posters (yes, even you PSUChamps2001). The passion is what's so great about college hockey and why we're all here keeping the conversation going. Cortland's program is actually going in the right direction under a coach who has had a very difficult year personally and it may have just rubbed me that all that can be said about this team and that game was that the rink is cold, the ice surface sucks, and only 40 people were there. Sorry if I got a little carried away and insulted anyone, but I've seen Plattsburgh fans go off over less.

Should be a crazy night, enjoy the game. Hopefully the weather holds for that long quite drive home tonight.

That's because it was 60 degrees out when you were there. :)

Finlandia and Northland also play in a couple of iceboxes.

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the Cortland ice surface? (sorry if I missed specifics earlier)

Had no get up to it at all. Scrapped up very easily. A very lethargic ice surface. Patches all over the place. Nothing like we will see tonight at the CC. Probably a major reason the game seemed boring as passes were slow all night.

They've always had issues with the ice there it seems. I really think it's just because of the upkeep, during the games there I've seen students doing all the work (operating the zamboni, cleaning the mooring holes) and it looks like they really don't give a s***.
