Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Re: Friday January 29th games, scores, and a tribute to The Hangover!

Let's see if Boston can help out the rest of the league with a win tonight!

Well, we can hope at least! LOL!

It was actually better that Norwich won tonight...USM is not going to catch Norwich but U-Mass Boston could catch USM...Jim, Please use a smaller font...

I think Cortland now goes down as one of the coldest rinks in SUNY....I dare say it even comes close to Romney....nuts in here. And probably one of the worst ice surfaces I've seen for a "college" rink...

In all seriousness, I have only attended one game where it was colder, and it was "outdoors" at the old rink at Hobart but then, I planned and dressed for it, Cortland's lack of respect for the fans was not amusing, even if they did charge only $4 to get in. (I also attended several Hobart games where it was warmer the inside at Cortland tonight). That said, it was a nice win for the Cardinal’s and the 40-60 Cortland fans had nothing to be ashamed of (other than the ridiculously cold temperature).

Sorry Lee, I just got it now a tough 4-1 loss for my boys. OUCH!

But it's not all bad...Skidmore lost, Castleton tied and U-Mass Boston lost...Let's hope for all the same tomorrow with Norwich beating Babson and maybe St Mike's pulling off and upset and beating U-Mass Boston...

Eastern version of a brawl:

UTC-7 Josh Schmitt (10-Misconduct) 19:43
UTC-8 Vincent Nucci (2-Hitting after the Whistle) 19:43
ELM-7 Martin Lee (2-Interference) 19:43
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weak.

Correction.

Pioneers#1's version of a brawl;)

Recap from Williams

4-4 Bowdoin @ Williams

Side note. I noticed the refs came on to the ice with 2:24 left in the intermission. Every other game I've seen this year, D3 and D1, the refs wait until 2 mins.

That's a protocol violation, isn't it? Two minutes in the box!:D

Those good NESCAC schools wouldn't do anything wrong if the officials were in the box for two minutes, would they?

UC v EC Recap

UC v EC Recap

To be fair, I heard it was quite a "physical" match. So I guess it could be up for interpretation.
Decent crowd for as cold as it was. My guess around 1200.

Utica clogs up the neutral zone very well, but once the puck gets into their end, they have absolutely no backcheck. Their forwards do very little to help out defensively, and Elmira was able to move the puck at will. Either UC is hopelessly out of shape, or care only about scoring. Honestly, I didn't see a whole lot of talent or effort in blue last night, which must be tough for the UC fans.

Elmira allowed a SH goal (again) on which Luckow got a pretty 120' assist. However, EC scored a couple of goals through nice screens in front, and had a large number of odd-man opportunities (see the lack of backcheck comment from above). Sophomores are extremely impressive.

The game wasn't overly physical, just overt frustration resulted in some dumb penalties. Notably, Nucci and Timkey are somewhat loose canons and play an ECHL style of goon hockey.

Sure sounds funny to hear someone from the north country complain about the cold..Truth is this young Cortland team played your cards pretty tough, start to finish. Baldy just rolled his four lines, nothing fancy. Sure would be nice to read something positive about Cortland once in awhile instead of this petty BS. If your mighty cardinals think that they can beat Oswego with last nights effort their in for a long long evening. Lakers 5 -- plattsburgh 1

I admit I like cold; I keep the thermometer at 60 at home - that said, "Petty BS", Cortland KNEW the outdoor temperature and KNEW of the game, it was unnecessarily cold I have NEVER been to an indoor college hockey game where you could significantly see your breath when you talked.

And yes, Cortland played very well and kept their composer and pressure even after Plattsburgh short handed goal. It was anybodies game right up till then end (hence the late Cortland timeout and pulling of their goalie), Cortland is right after Potsdam in "rising to the occasion" when it comes to playing Plattsburgh.

I've often joked about that at Kreitzberg. You can see from where I sit at the opposite end of the ice that the officials end up behind the gate where they enter somewhere between 2 and 3 minutes to go, but they always seem to make sure that their skates hit the ice when the clock says 2:00 exactly (or 7:00 for the first period). I've wondered why are they so precise about it - are they worried about a penalty for protocol violation? (Probably they'd only have to play one official short - one at a time in the box :) )
