Friday February 12th Score Updates: The Rowdy Crowd's Quest and MIAC Showdown

Re: Friday February 12th Score Updates: The Rowdy Crowd's Quest and MIAC Showdown

Perhaps the 62 shot count is partially the result of generous home-cooked scorekeeping, but given the ridiculous number of SOG that Tufts allows on a regular basis, I don't think it is a grossly inflated total, and I'm sure UNE hit the net at least 50 times. Opponents of the Jumbos are averaging just over 45 SOG per game this season. I have only watched my alma mater play in person twice this year, against Babson early in the season and recently against Castleton, but it seems like they are perfectly willing to let opponents fire away at will from the outside against Barchard, who rarely gets beat on a first shot attempt.

Just to pick out a few other high SOG counts against Tufts this year:
Neumann: 50 (a 5-2 Tufts win)
NEC: 53 (a 3-1 Tufts win)
St. Anselm: 66 (a 4-3 Tufts OT win)
[those three games were all in a one week span after Thankgiving]
Bowdoin: 49 (a 3-2 loss)
Castleton: 51 (2-2 tie)

For the year, opponents are outshooting Tufts by a count of 948 to 630, yet the Jumbos are 10-8-3 overall. It is an odd strategy, but it seems to be working.

Well, we will see what I get today during the USM/Tufts game...

At first glance you would think whoever's counting the shots at Tufts would be marking anything that remotely comes off a stick in the offensive zone - but I looked over their schedule and they are getting just as many high shot totals on the road, as at home. So this team must really be funneling everything to their goaltender. He's having a fine year.

No doubt, I have heard nothing but really good things about the netminder...

As a fellow alum, I have seen several Tufts games this season. While I would agree with all the wonderful things said about the goalie, Scott Barchard, I'm not sure that the Jumbos are content to "let" opponenets fire away at Barchard. While they are about as fast as an elephant, they do not possess the corresponding strength. They appear to a half step late in getting to many loose pucks and then often end up getting muscled off the puck resulting in failure to clear their zone. They play hard. It just doesn't always get the desired result. However, if they catch a superior team a little off on their game and Barchrd is hot, they have the ability to upset. It will be interesting to follow.

You can count on three losses if he starts Bolin again:mad: I've seen him play many times and he should not be starting against even a decent team. I'd like to know what his motive was because it didn't work tonight and didn't work after he pulled Tuttle last week.

DUMB MOVE COACH!
The question is WHY was Tuttle not playing? Injury? I agree, Bolin is not capable of taking this team the distance, he gives up huge rebounds.

On a different note:

Seriously? That photo of St. Olaf vs. St. Thomas on the D3 homepage is the best USCHO can do this week? Whose phone was that taken with?
Please show me a phone that can take that from 200 feet away :)
