Ford Field Rink Installation

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

Maybe the next time the Red Wings make the stanley cup finals, you should suggest that the games be played at Ford Field so more people can go and experience the magic that is a stanley cup finals...sound like a good idea?

Wouldn't bother me in the least. If they sell more tickets, so be it.

This game started by playing outdoors- including some Olympic championships- to small indoor arenas (Colorado Springs, and most NCAA rinks are tiny)- to medium rinks (Cin, Albany, Prov)- to full size NHL rinks. Now a football field. For the purity of the championship- should we go back outdoors?

The championship is STILL determined inside the boards, not in the arena. Why should we prevent new people from trying on the cheap?

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

Shirtless guy you do realize that this ice is just as temporary as the stuff in the NHL arenas that is removed for concerts and basketball and things like that, right? The game is indoors and the climate is controlled. I bet there will not be one single problem with the ice.

Haven't read the full thread yet but yea, this ice is probably going to be better ice than at most NCAA tournament games in a long time except maybe the time the Bruins wouldn't let the NCAA put down their logos during their playoff run in 2004.

Typically these venues are in use a few days before and give the NCAA just a few days to rip up the ice, replace the logos, and resurface the top layer of ice (usually Tuesday) and typically the teams start skating on it almost immediately (Wednesday... within 24 hours). I suspect the ice will be done today or tomorrow at Ford Field and you'll have a long time for the ice to set in a good environment.

30,000 -- Tickets already sold. (Call (800) 745-3000 or go to Ticketmaster.com to purchase tickets.)

From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20100331...Field-breaks-ice-on-Frozen-Four#ixzz0jmB1T3zh

I think that this says a lot, especially with capacity being 35,000 to 36,000. Whether everyone shows for all three games remains to be seen.

To the people complaining: How is this any different from the Final Four being hosted in a football field (like Ford Field last year, Lucas Oil Stadium this year, etc)?? There they use pretty much all of the available permanent football seats plus all of the temporary seats on the field. I don't hear many people complaining about the event not being held in a traditional basketball arena, especially given how bad the view of many of the seats are.

Let's give it a chance & see how it goes. The photos I have seen make it look really good. There's one on the Detroit News website that is taken from section 100 where I am sitting (pretty close to my exact row) & the sightlines look good.

We aren't there yet. Last year's NCAA Basketball Championship got a 5.6, I know last year's NCAA Hockey Championship didn't get over 1.0 and it was closer to 0.5. I know plenty of people that hate the idea of paying all that money to go to a basketball game where you can't even see it but the thing about basketball is there aren't boards or glass (other than the backboard) to screw with a persons view when you plop a court/rink on the 50 yard line of some domed football stadium. If this continues how long before those $40 seats are $200 for the weekend? Do you really think the NCAA in the end will care about having affordable seats to expand the sport? I just think its a bad idea to push the issue on this. The event has sold out for quite awhile now but that doesn't mean demand is high. There have been plenty of Frozen Fours where as Slasher7 said where you could get tickets on the street day off for below face value. Everything I have heard about Ford Field is that it was designed with other events like this in mind so maybe it will work this time. But I don't want it get to the point that is like watching a twins game at the metrodome where your seat is at center ice and facing one of the goalies. Thankfully there are a limited number of venues to even try this in what would be considered Hockey Territory. I mean are there any football domes in the Northeast? The only one I can think of is the Carrier Dome and I don't see that place ever hosting a Frozen Four. There are are still only a few in the midwest (Ford Field, Edward Jones Dome, Lucas Oil Field, Metrodome).

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

looks like its gonna be a long walk to the locker rooms for both teams..

On the contrary, it's going to be a short walk to the locker rooms.

If you look at that picture, the locker rooms are in the tunnel to the lower left of the picture.

And I guess I am ok with the walk that may be ahead of us sitting higher up in Risers 01 through 05 to get down and back up to the concourse... regardless, the place is going to be sweet, and it will be a good, good time!

shirtless, give it a rest already! You had your say, now you are just quibbling. Relax, it is what it is and it will most likely be a success. So what happens happens.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

I posted this in the thread with priority/seat location info too, but when I called the ticket office to inquire as to why anyone who went to ticketmaster now could get riser section seats while fans who bought in the priority lottery over a year ago did not get riser secton seats, the relatively friendly Ford Field guy thought we would be pleasantly surprised by the view from our section 129 row 13 tickets. He thought that was a pretty good distance up without being too far away and I'd have a good view of the ice.

I am very interested to see what you have to say after your experience...

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

For those who can't see the facebook photo I posted before, here it is. This is from midway up the upper level off toward a corner. If I paid $40 for the weekend for that seat, I'd be plenty satisfied.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

Ok, for all of you saying "oh, that's not so bad" - have you never been to a football stadium? When they clearly said they were changing the location of the rink to one of the endzones, what else did you expect?

The possible configurations were downright predictable:

#3 in that thread was the big winner:

And that's a visualization from the last row of the upper deck.

Hmmm. Not bad.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

starting to get worried there won't be a ticket waiting for the two of us for the sat. game if the badgers get there. Was thinking there would be plenty available, but looks like only 5000-6000 left. I will be willing to pay over face, anyone think I would have a problem

Seriously? I can't see there being any problem getting tickets for below face value if you're talking about the $189 strip and at face if you're talking about the $40 strip. There are over 300 listings on stubhub right now. There at least 80 tickets for sale on ebay right now. Actually if you're going to all the games, go to ebay, there are "buy it now" strips for under face right now...

Plus you can go to ticketmaster right now and get Riser 4 (Blueline/Faceoff Circle), Row 3

Uhhhhh....... I wouldn't be too concerned.

I still kind of expect it to be mediocre at best, but I can hope to be pleasantly surprised. Not much to be done about it, regardless, other than resolve that if it's ever in a ****ed football stadium again I'll either sit out the lottery or only lottery one seat to maintain priority if I can do that, and just eat the crap seat and buy better tickets late.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

I am still a bit confused - one seating chart I downloaded has us behind the net off to the right, and the other has us right on the blue line - section 138 which is real???
