Ford Field Rink Installation

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

After looking at the map and figuring out where it is, yep that's the one. We didn't get there in time for food, but the drinks were good and it had a good atmosphere.

If you decide to go to Greektown after any of the games this weekend, be sure to take the Old Shillelagh shuttle bus (green school bus). They have the most fun shuttle and "victory lap" circling the intersection of Randolph and Gratiot is a riot!

Well, I won't be there this weekend. I'm not in favor of the whole football stadium thing and thought I'd rather save my money this year. I'm hopefully going to need the money to buy a house very soon.

Back to the topic of the actual ice itself - sounds like it sucks.

"Andrew Favot from RIT described it in the Detroit Free Press as, "Chippy...It is almost too hard… feels like it is breaking off. The puck is bouncing about everywhere. They may have to do something about it.”"

Well, that sounds like it's too cold, which is easier to fix that not cold enough (assuming that the system is at it's max). Hmm.

They did delay practices a little bit to work on the ice. Hopefully they get it cleared up by tomorrow. But basically, that's the type of ice you get on a portable rink like this.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

Was the person taking the picture standing on a step ladder?

I would be more interested in seeing the view of someone sitting directly behind the guy in the lower right hand corner of that picture.

That's the real view of the risers... the back of someones head! Why isn't there more incline to these portable risers???

Oh well, we will know soon enough. Just will have to sneak much more alcohol in for sure!

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

Looks like they used the same shallow risers they used for the Final Four last year with the court at the 50 yard line.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

It was supposed to be relative.

IMHO, DC isn't as safe as most people like to think, just as Detroit isn't as dangerous as most people think. I don't think DC is equal to Detroit, just that it's not as precieved.

But, I'm good with piling on if it make my city look good. ;) :D

The very idea of one universal safety index that applies to a city or an area of a city is silly.

DC does have some rough neighborhoods, and the chances of a random tourist wandering into them is next to nil - nevermind the fact that crime in the city (and not just DC, but Detroit and others too) is rarely targeted at random individuals. Much of the crime is criminal on criminal.

i wonder why they didn't use seemless plexiglass?the views from farther away might be alot clearer

This really makes no sense to me. Every year they did the Final Four in a football stadium with the same end field configuration, they used risers with a good slope on them much steeper than these that made them actually fantastic seats. It also makes the place look fuller because there's more sightline area covered by people. Hell, they even used the steep risers for the women's basketball Final Four this year, so why they didn't bring in similar ones is perplexing. On the bright side, the seats on the opposite side and the lower part of the upper level look very good.

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

I was in there for the Wisconsin practice today and was really disappointed with the risers. I'm very happy I'm sitting in the 35th row of the real Ford Field seats on one of the blue lines. I think the first 25 rows of the riser seats on the field are going to be awful. Above that it might get better, but you end up a good distance away from the field. I can't believe they don't have risers that go up faster for something like this.

You know, you could go to Detroit with $100 and get a good ticket to the game while still having enough left over to buy a house there. :D

Re: Ford Field Rink Installation

I sure hope the ice is fast, I want to see some skating and speed, not dump and chase because the ice is slow. This is a pretty big risk doing this indoors so late in the spring.

They are knocking those down to create urban farmland...wanna grow some corn?

I don't know if it's Detroit where this is happening or not, but some community in Michigan is actually 'relinquishing' entire neighborhoods because they can't fund the services & infrastructure they require. It reminds me of the old Mikey LIFE commercial: "I don't want this neighborhood...YOU take it!"
