Ford field attendance

Re: Ford field, good luck

Re: Ford field, good luck

Ford Field for hockey...I don't get it? It seems as though the more the NCAA gets involved in NCAA hockey the more in goes downhill.

ummm, the NCAA has always been involved in NCAA hockey.

the hockey is terrible.

The simple and most direct response here is: No it isn't.

Cornell has two guys that are top NHL picks and both were invisible.

I've seen quite a few NHL players who were top picks in NHL games that were invisible. It happens.

Denver, maybe the coach needs to stop standing with his arms folded across his chest and try to get his team to play with some energy?

Yeah, had Gwoz whipped a stick or 10 onto the ice I'm sure Denver would have won that game going away.

Did not see any of the 4 teams complete 3 consecutive passes. My point...no top end pro talent on the ice (18 year olds that will play in the NHL next year)

Having stud 18 and 19 year olds carry your sport is what has slowly been ruining NBA basketball. Really, how many 18 year olds are ready to compete in the NHL?

and no atmosphere!

So as to not just rip you totally, this one I agree with, and believe me people I respect a lot more than you have been discussing this one for days now. And last year and the year before.

I played college hockey

big deal.

totally get why college hockey is getting smoked by the Canadian Major Junior leagues for talent.

No, you don't. First of all it isn't. And second, when some of that talent decides to play major junior that isn't a bad thing. More choices for more people is a good thing. And believe me there are a lot of guys who made that choice ten years ago who regret it because they aren't NHL millionaires and they have no education. Just like quite a few who are in major Jr right now.

The NCAA teams used to be able to sell the rah, rah atmosphere to top talent but not anymore. I'd rather play a first round 4 of 7 series in London, Ontario in front of a full house of 10,000 for every game and play against high end talent as opposed to 3,700 in Albany, NY.
Good luck with the Ford Field thing...I hope Michigan get in so the atmosphere is decent. I won't be going to anymore NCAA neutral site stuff.

Why are you here? We have a bad product, played by inferior players, in an inferior environment. I think you are looking for CMJHO. Oh that isn't around? Maybe its waiting for you to start it up. Hopefully the education you received while you played college hockey gave you the business acumen to start up a new website. Give it a go. I can't wait to register a username so I can go there and complain about a product I don't know much about, don't follow all that closely, and don't care much about.

Now, you'll have to excuse me. I've got a bad game with inferior players in a stale environment to go take care of.

Here is my rant...I went to the games in Albany and although I was excited to see RIT win I would rather watch a tier II junior game! NCAA hockey used to be exciting...big crowds, the bands and good hockey played by high end talent. Now the neutral sites are empty (3,700 in a 12,000 seat arena in Albany) and frankly the hockey is terrible. RIT has a nice team that players a good team game with lots of players who are older (21-24 year olds). UNH...really liked what I saw in Butler, Cornell has two guys that are top NHL picks and both were invisible. Denver, maybe the coach needs to stop standing with his arms folded across his chest and try to get his team to play with some energy?

I played college hockey and used to be a big NCAA supporter but totally get why college hockey is getting smoked by the Canadian Major Junior leagues for talent.

Where did you play college hockey? Division 3 level?

Re: Ford field attendance

I need a single seat for Thursday. Any locals know what the seating check policy will be like at FF? I'm thinking about buying a sky seat for 40 and moving down.

you realize of course that it is not GA? (there is nothing worse than people buying a ticket with a section, row and seat assigned to it and thinking that information doesn't apply to them.  )

Some one remind Paul Kelly not to hire this guy for College Hockey Inc.!

At this moment I'm watching a superb hockey game between Michigan and Miami on the tube ... great game ... great enthusiasm ... two great bands dueling ... nothing like "The Victors" to get the blood boiling and I don't even like Michigan!
The crowds at some of these neutral site games aren't what they would like them to be but how many people would show up at that junior game in London if Shawinigan was playing Vancouver?

U-S College hockey ... D-1 AND D-3 (You would not have believed the crowd and atmosphere at the Norwich win over St. Norbert last weekend in the D-3 title game ... 2OT in Lake Placid) ... are in great shape, thank you very much.

Please go crawl back under your major junior rock! Thank You.

Re: Ford field attendance

Honestly College Hockey is still a growing sport in the US. Ticket prices for the regionals where expensive and this is still a down economy. RIT advancing to the Frozen Four is the best thing for the sport right now. It will help strengthen RIT's fanbase which helps out all of Atlantic Hockey since they play their conference tourney in Rochester now (like MN in WCHA not saying they will be as big but at least they now got a team that will help support the league). This could also help by showing schools that are interested in adding programs that they as well could be competitive at the national level in a few years.

Re: Ford field attendance

Now that we know all 4 teams...What are poeple thinking? I think there will be between 25K-30K probably close to 25 with strong showing from Wisconsin and RIT...even though 30K would be amazing that means 10-15 thousand empty seats

Ford Field is being configured to seat 35,000 for these games. They are using fewer than half of the permanent football seats. 30,000 would be amazing and considered a great success I'm guessing.

OK I thought that they were configuring it to be around 45K, but thanks for the clarification...I know I'm going, GO EAGLES

Re: Ford field attendance

Will it be a success? Who knows if you don't try? I don't think that it hurts to try it at a football stadium once. If it fails, have it in the new Red Wings stadium next time it comes to Detroit.

The good news is that the Frozen Four has started to get a good deal of attention around here. I've noticed stories about the NCAA tournament in the top 10 most viewed stories on the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press websites, which I've never seen before, even when Michigan or Michigan State has been doing well. This is a great hockey town, but college hockey is pretty much a cult thing here. The Ford Field thing may boost the profile of college hockey around here a bit.

i think fans may be surprised by detroit.... i went last year to the final four at ford field (yes, the bouncy ball game as i've heard on here before hahaha) and the atmosphere around the arena, including the bars obv, was solid and was a great time.... i realize that there won't be nearly as many fans this year for hockey (added to michigan or state not being there) but i still think it will be a good time.... i also agree with at least trying it at a football stadium once to see how it goes and at least the thought process was there by the ncaa having it in a city that appreciates its hockey.

i look forward to seeing some college hockey fans in cheli's or hockeytown in 10 days!!!!

Re: Ford field attendance

Lots of tickets now available with no Michigan team in the field. Attendance was hurting the last few times the Frozen Four was at the Joe without a local team. I had a general admission ticket and could sit wherever I wanted in the lower bowl.

Re: Ford field attendance

Rob Fournier sucks.

GFM
Quoted for Truth! ;)

No one will show up. because ford field is the worst venue in the history of sports.

Well, I hear its an alright venue for Football. :p

Honestly, Its not like they're going to have the kids out there skating on Plexiglass or something thats not Ice. The players are not really going to notice it that much once the game gets going.

Re: Ford field attendance

Yeah, but if it is football, chances are you're watching the Lions, whose suck more than makes up for the lack of suck Ford Field has as a football venue.

I took the tour last week with the CCHA media. We went down on the field, I think I spent more time in the end zone that day than the Lions did all season!

Re: Ford field attendance

College Hockey vs Canadian Junior? Many of us don't have a choice. I grew up on RPI Hockey - idolized the players as a young kid etc - now living in Bow Washington - nearest college team is probably ND 1300 miles - but 45 miles down the road are the WHL Everett Silvertips - like college, (and unlike NHL) the kids play their butts off every night - 8000 seat arena is 2/3 to full depending on who is in town - just off a game 7 from a playoff series that was great - yes they do fight occasionally, and yes you can get a beer.............I do miss the bands though.

Looking forward to my 10th straight FF next week - :o
