Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Getting a little comfortable with the 2 minute walk/2 minute run. Might increase it to 2 minute walk/2:30 minute run next week.

Pulled a muscle in my chest, so I've been limited to yoga and Pilates for the last couple weeks. Been relaxing, and Gaiam does a very good job with their yoga and Pilates DVDs.

Next race is the Rivertown half-marathon on April 30. I'll be ready.

No, I won't. Tried running today, only to make it 1.25 miles before turning around, then I slowed way down, and walked home with about a half-mile to go.

Honestly feels like someone stepped on or punched me square in the ribs.

Word from the doctor is costochondritis. It means the muscles around the sternum-left ribs are swollen/inflamed, and the injury was caused by doing push-ups.

RICE to the rescue. Doctor recommended a compression shirt; anyone recommend a GOOD compression shirt?

I like this one the best of the compression shirts I own. The material's a bit thicker for a non-cold weather shirt, so it might feel hot for you.

OK, I'll put that on order. Also, I realized that I have a duathlon (5K run/20K bike/5K run) coming up next month, so I can ride my bike with minimal to no pain.

Running with this is like running with sciatica last year. Take it slow, don't stop, and liberally apply BioFreeze when done.

So I am running the Rivertown half-marathon on Saturday, even if I run slower than Internet Explorer on dialup in 1999.

Rivertown half-marathon: 2:27:22. I'll do much better at the Fifth Third 25K in 13 days.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Not sure if plateauing, ready to push myself further, or falling backwards. Went for a walk to the outlet mall and back (about 2.5 miles total) and had no problems and great cardio. At the gym, I have been sweating more and more. Not sure why. As I am typing this, I am thinking that I might have to grab the fan and aim at me while on the treadmill. The temp feels the same each day, but I think it is the outside factors of getting warm outside.

You're going to sweat more as the we near summer because there's more moisture in the air.

Correct. Not sure what gym she goes to, but the systems used by most are very bad at dehumidification at this time of year. The load on the systems is not high enough to force them to run in cooling very long so the coils don't get cold enough to wring the humidity out. At higher dewpoint in the space you will sweat more. The mech systems will actually dehumidify better when the outside temps go up a bit more and the systems have to work harder and longer.

This explains a lot. If you are wondering, I go to Snap Fitness in Eagan (South Location).

myFP put ads in the diary portion of their mobile app. ugh. apparently if you upgrade to premium ($50/year), you can get rid of them. debating. I do use it every single day, so that's only about 13.7 cents per day. :p the other premium stuff I don't really care about, but the ads are annoying.

The myFP ads have been so poorly placed and inconvenient that I've found myself using the application less. I wouldn't mind paying for the app except that $50/year is just too steep when there are other options available... that I've just not taken the time to investigate yet.

I'm taking my blood pressure and weight every night, at right about the same time every night. 17 days in, I can easily see a trend on days where I got on the treadmill, and days where I did not. BP is 8-14 points lower on days where I got off my *** and did something.

Weight, OTOH, is going to be a bigger battle. I'm just under 200, and I want to be closer to 185-190. I've got a LOT of work to do, diet-wise.

One crisis at a time...

River Bank Run 25K: 2:37:53, a new PR by about 18 seconds. I feel awesome. This was my 7th 25K.

Two things I need to work on:

1. Less pop, more water. Not because pop is supposedly the devil, but because it's much cheaper to fill my water bottle than it is to keep buying pop.

2. Limit alcohol to 1-2 beers, 1-2 days a week. When I was injured, I was drinking 2 beers every night. Also, move consumption to meals, instead of having a night cap.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Made an appointment at a sports clinic to have my knee(s) looked at. I fell pretty hard at hockey a few months ago, and my right shin swelled up HUGE, like a second kneecap, just below my knee. It went down, but there's still some swelling or.. something there, and it hurts like a m-effer if I have to kneel. Hasn't really affected hockey or cycling or most other things, but it feels a little sore afterwards. Other knee also sore afterwards, but no second kneecap. I've been wearing volleyball knee pads under my shin pads, and that helps a ton, but I'm wondering if I have to get it cleaned out. This kind of pain does not usually stick around for months for me, and I haven't really had knee problems before. I can't imagine there's any ligament damage, but maybe bone chips or something.
