Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Okay, bumping my calories back to 3,000/day has led to more energy. But I still worry that I'll fall into the "LOSE WEIGHT AT ALL COSTS" black hole, which I have been in before.

Next big race for me is the Grand Haven Olympic duathlon, which is a 5K run, followed by a 40K bike ride, followed by another 10K run. Goal for this week is to ride 20 miles on the bike.

Week 11 of ultra-marathon training. 14 mile runs now fall in the middle of the week, instead of on long run Saturdays. Eat all the things?

Also, because my calorie intake hasn't kept up with my activity level, I went from 232 on May 31 to 220. My size 36 pants fit again, and in terms of measurements:

31" waist
36" hips
38" chest

35" waist
36" hips
42.5" chest

Was up to 44.5" chest...but had a negative reaction of working out and lifting in particular with my statins (its called rambdo) and so had to stop for a couple of weeks. Back on it though...they say it comes back pretty quick. My goal is 44.5" in two weeks.

Speaking of chest, where do you measure? I've been measuring across my pectoral muscles... is that correct?

And it appears that I'm supposed to want a bigger chest, not a smaller one. Was never sure which way to go with that...

Under your arms, at the fullest part of your chest. For a normally sized person, that will generally cross your nipple or slightly above them.

Just measured there. 38.5", which means my yoga/Pilates/body weight training is paying off.

Yeah. Max out the measurement. That's the best way to ensure that you're always measuring like for like. That's a pretty good chest. I'm a bit different I have a pretty broad chest cavity.

Yeah. I base physical attractiveness on what women want. Wiki's got a good piece on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_attractiveness

Here's what they say about men's chest (and hence my goal on that stuff): An indicator of health in males (a contributing factor to physical attractiveness) is the android fat distribution pattern which is categorized as more fat distributed on the upper body and abdomen, commonly referred to as the "V shape."

When I get there, it works. Women are more interested.

Goal is a 40" chest.

Week 13 of ultra training. Two things I need to remember:

1. Eat more food in training, but not all the food.
2. Remember to slow down on these runs. Treat them as the first 14 or whatever of the 50 I am going to run on September 24.

Weekly measurements:

32" waist
37" hips
39" chest

Every size large shirt I've acquired as of late is kind of baggy on me, and I can wear my 36 jeans again. Goal is to get into a 34 jeans.

Did the Grand Haven Olympic duathlon today, and it was a very good day. Today was the first day in my life I ever rode a bicycle for 24.8 miles, doing that leg in 1:57:59, and in the last 10K, I pumped up the volume and ran it in 56:56, which is a 10K personal record. Time overall was 3:27:35, which is good enough for second in my age group.

Woke up at 430am this morning to go running with my husband. The times they are a-changing.

Measurement check:

31" waist
36" hips
38" chest

Lost off my waist and hips, which is good, but I also lost off my chest, so I need to get back into yoga/Pilates/body weight training.

Getting ready to sign up for my first 5K (Smuttynose 5K in Hampton, NH). A little nervous as I don't want to finish last, but I just completed week 5 of Couch to 5K, so hopefully by October, I'll finish a respectable last -1.

My first 5K (back in 2008), I finished in 30:59, middle of the pack, without much training. I think you'll do great. Remember, just getting out there and doing the thing is wonderful.

Tomorrow starts week 16 of 50 mile ultra training. Some things I want you all to know right now:

1. It feels like I'm on another planet. No one in my circle has gone beyond 26.2.
2. I'm injecting walk breaks into my runs to simulate race day. I assume the terrain in Big Rapids, MI won't allow for running straight through.
3. Instead of doing out and backs, I need to set up a loop by my house, and stash chips, pretzels, M&Ms... easily digestible "foods. On race day, I've been told to eat early and often.

And I'm already setting up next year's race schedule. I plan on registering for the Charlevoix Marathon (Charlevoix, MI) on Thursday, and then the Bear Lake Sprint Duathlon (North Muskegon, MI) and the Grand Haven Olympic Duathlon (Grand Haven, MI) next week.

A major study just found that a lack of fitness is the second leading predictor of a shorter life span (behind smoking).

Then I should live forever.

Yes and you should go on to star in a major broadway play.

My 10th marathon is Saturday, August 6, and then marathons 11 (September 3) and 12 (October 23) are upcoming.

To be fair, I didn't think I'd live too long after marathon 1 (2009), knowing that I weighed 146 lbs, had an eating disorder, and was terribly anemic.
