Reducing sugar intake can make a huge difference--it did for me. And when you start keeping track of how much sugar is in the food we eat, it is frightening. The sugar industry and the manufacturers who sweeten their products in order to make them sell are killing us at a rate terrorists could only dream of. Sugary drinks alone kill more than 180,000 a year.
As a once in awhile treat, a Frappucino is not that bad. It only becomes a problem when you have one every day.
Personally, when I walk into a coffee shop (f-ck Starbucks), I order a hot, black coffee.
As for people who cut all refined sugar out of their diet, not even making room for birthday cake: if YOU want to eliminate anything, fine. But please, keep it to yourself. Don't ruin the fun for the rest of us.
Agreed. I never eliminate anything but I will cut it out almost completely so when I do have it I get way more joy out of it. Ice Cream is awesome but when you have it every day it loses its luster and it is terrible for you.
A treat should be exactly that...a treat. Something you have from time to time as a gift to yourself
(I get Depth Charges at coffee places)
At my preferred coffee shop, there's the Hackley Perk: brewed coffee with 4 shots of espresso. I take it large size and black.
Holy crap
Good god man...I have done 3 shots before but never 4![]()
dx,
Watch your fruit intake...some fruits have insane amounts of sugar especially when dried out like raisins and dried bananas.
Woah! Yeah I had a similar but not nearly as drastic progression. I was skinny as a rail most of my life, gained a ton of weight towards the end of college, started jogging for a while but it wasn't until I started lifting that I really started to see significant changes again.<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/54862062@N08/27556022426" title="bobyears"><img src="https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7340/27556022426_4be6e40804_z.jpg" width="640" height="360" alt="bobyears"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Aren't refined sugars carbs? or for that matter any sugars are carbs. Some are easier to digest but they are all carbsMy personal trainer says cutting carbs is a terrible idea. Honestly I have probably added carbs as I cut refined sugars..
In fact, you how I know I'm getting results? I was relaxing in front of the tv, went to put my hand on my chest and abdomen and noticed things are a lot different. Flatter. It caught me off guard. It was an interesting and awesome moment.

Yes they are a type of carb...they can be replaced with other carbohydrates that the body can process easier. Refined sugars require insulin which is a major part of the problem. Other types of more natural carbs (not the right term but it works) the body has enzymes and such in the digestive track that break it down easier.
It comes down to simple carbs vs. complex carbs. The complex carbs will take longer for your body to digest, so they will not spike your blood sugar. Spiked blood sugar requires more insulin to handle that burst of sugar in the blood, and thus eating more complex carbs as opposed to simple carbs makes for a healthier you - unless you're taking in more calories than you're burning, that is (the old caveat).
As someone that's considered pre-diabetic(A1C is 6.0 but dropping) that was a good explanation.![]()
I lived with a father who was type 2, diagnosed when I was very young. Listening to blood sugar discussions almost became a rite of passage for me and my next youngest brother.
Funny thing is, and extremely stupid to boot, he would take a blood sugar test and then eat a Hershey's bar. He'd then test his blood sugar after eating the bar. Then he'd repeat this until he'd eaten a six-pack of Hershey's bars. He thought he was a miracle because his blood sugar levels didn't spike immediately upon finishing the prior bar, never considering that it takes a few minutes for that bar's sugar to impact his body. Or he was hoping we didn't know that, and thus tried to pull the wool over my mother's eyes.
Diabetes runs on my father's side(9 boys, 4 girls). Learned that if you don't pay attention and let it run wild you won't be around.
