Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Measured my waist, hips, and chest this morning. This is after three weeks of Les Mills Combat and Groundhog Marathon training.

Waist: 33" (down from 33.5")
Hips: 38.5" (down from 39")
Chest: 37" (down from 37.5")

In terms of my weight and the actual number, I've set the target at 200 and no more than that. Having already grappled with disordered eating and a free-falling weight before, I think 6'2", 200 lbs is a nice place to sit.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Finished my run today only about a minute slower than my previous run but I felt like my good friend Mr. McCraig. It was tough.

-Limit liquid calories. Other than the occasional beer or the sports drink I use for my runs/workouts, I drink coffee in the morning and water after that.
.

This one is huge. I don't know how accurate it was, but I remember reading in a "men's health and fitness" type of magazine, that if the average American male did nothing to their diet except drink water instead of soda that they would lose 10 pounds in a year.

I don't do juices, green smoothies, or any of the high calorie coffee drinks. Just water, coffee, beer, and and sports drink. And in terms of coffee, I don't add cream or sugar. I just take it black.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Back from the doctor, and I will be seeing a dietitian soon. This is good, because my problem has always been maintenance; while I'm training for five marathons and a 50 mile ultra next year, I can't afford to worry about losing weight.

Yup, I haven't completely dropped soda but it's been about two years since I cut it out of my daily intake. I rarely have soda now. Mostly stick with tea, water, and milk. It's good just to get rid of the sugar intake from that.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

I was quite excited that every single number for my health insurance screening is significantly trending in the correct direction compared to last year. Hey, I must be doing something right!

I have been a slacker in elbow rehab and still am not back to weight lifting. Need to get on it (and I really need to make an appointment with a trainer to go over the machines, so I feel comfortable doing it on my own). I switched up my exercise routine at the beginning of September, and it's paid off - definitely seeing related improvements.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Taking the day off from the gym today. Combination of pushing myself at the gym and lifting heavy objects at work. I found this workout plan that slowly progresses you to be able to run a 5k in just under 3 months. So far it is going well. It helps that my knee is not acting up that much.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Facebook reminded me that 6 years ago this week, I weighed 146.4 pounds. 6'2, and weighing 146 pounds. I was DEEP in a pro-ana lifestyle at that time... squeezing the contents of my sandwich into an English muffin because the muffin had less carbs and calories.

And a little bit more about the pain and horror that caused.

By comparison, this is what I look like now:

Hoo boy, good running shoes ain't cheap! I just got home from the store, bought a pair of Brooks, moving up from $50 Asics. I'm about to go for my first run in them to see how they really feel.

At least they're not hockey skates expensive. Though, at least with hockey skates you can keep them for multiple years at a time.

1. I wear Brooks myself; you made a great choice.

2. Running shoes should be replaced every 500 miles or so; this means mine get replaced every 6 months.

Unless they are Eastons.

I just ordered some new updated Nike Lunarglide 6s to start rotating in with my current Lunarglide 4s which are at about 275 miles. That being said, I haven't friggin run a single mile since my half marathon so that kinda sucks. Busy busy busy and without the event to train for I'm not really forcing myself to get out there. I really can't stand being this busy.

Why are you wearing a shirt, Shirtless? :)

Never bought Easton skates. I had a pair of their elbow pads and the elastic band for the upper arm lost its form, wasn't inclined to purchase more of their stuff. I'm still on my CCM Tacks 652 skates that I bought back in January 2006. Third set of steel on them now.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Realized that until I can commit to swim lessons, I can't do triathlons. However, the duathlon (run/bike/run) looks promising, so I can do a couple of those next year. I bought a nice road bike, so I might as well get what I can out of it.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

In terms of avoiding soda/pop, I've gotten better at avoiding the fountain machine at work, as well as the fountain at Meijer. It's much cheaper (and better) to bring a water bottle and fill it, rather than spending money on diet pop. Besides, diet pop has a funny taste to it...

There is also evidence that diet pop contributes to just as much weight gain as regular pop, because it confuses the body's metabolism.

That, and I'm discovering pop is a huge financial suck. Once I resolved to stop buying it on a regular basis, I had more money for food that mattered.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

My doctor also wants me to go through weight management classes/support groups. She feels that I shouldn't weigh less than 200 pounds...
