FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Eaves on the hot seat...I too was saying this was the make or break year for him. I guess he bought 3 years. UW should be in the tourney every year. Anything less is a failure.

Doesn't the success of this season really show what a massive failure last season was?

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

I wouldn't expect it, but wouldn't be shocked if it happened. UNH came to Madison earlier this year and got a beat down by the Badgers in the two games. The Badgers outscored them 10-2 and outshot them 95-35 in that series.

UNH was just awful at the Kohl. It blew me away when they won the Hockey East. They just looked like a bad team in Madison.

Yes, let's not forget what we were grumbling about:

08-09 20-16-4
07-08 16-17-4
06-07 19-18-4

Those of us who were worried had legitimate concerns. And though I imagaine I'll be jumped on for saying this, one year does not completely set my mind at ease.

I thought it was a make it or break it season for Eaves too mainly because I am not optimistic in the least bit about next year's team. I hope I'm wrong, but if they lose the players that are expected and with a mediocre class coming in, next year could be, imo, one of the worst seasons in the Eaves era. He's probably gonna need those 3 years. And I agree about your last statement.

Agreed, if they miss the tourney the next couple years, he should be right back on the hot seat.

I was thinking about how many players we are losing as well on the way to work today. I think we have to take advantage of them while we can...preferably Saturday

Yeah it's going to be a BRUTAL offseason. I wonder what the record is for most players lost in one offseason to the NHL?

McD, Smith, Stepan, Goloubef, Gardiner. Yuck. My guess is only Gardiner will be back, of those five.

If Stepan leaves, they'll lose their top 4 scorers, and 7 of their top 8.

But others in the league will be hit hard too, so it won't be quite as bad as it otherwise might be...but I think finishing in the top 5 (or 6 ;)) will be good for next year's team.

I don't want to get too into this because we still have more than 24 hours to enjoy the current team before worrying about the offseason. I will say I think Gardiner and Goloubef are back, McD is about 50/50, and Smith and Stepan will be drawing paychecks next Fall.

Regarding Eaves, I think most folks on here were pretty level-headed and it was appropriate to think this year was huge for Eaves. Three straight .500ish seasons, middle of the pack in the WCHA, and on the NCAA bubble isn't good enough for this program and a 4th with this returning talent wasn't acceptable. I figure a National Championship buys a coach about 4 or 5 seasons and this was the 4th. I do generally like Eaves so I'm glad a pivotal year is going well.

Must be nice. Learn to appreciate what you have.

I don't know what team you follow, but UW has a long tradition of excellence and non-excellent runs of 2-3 years of .500 hockey is not good compared to the program's storied history. After the last 2 years, this run is super sweet, but it makes me feel worse about those 2 very mediocre years prior to this.

3 mediocre years.

He's an RIT fan, Timothy A. I agree with his sentiment, but he's looking at only the most recent results.

My 2 cents.

McD could be playing for the Rangers right now. He is 100% gone along with B Smith.

Stepan's team the Rangers have said they want him to stay. I still think he could use another year at this level and learn to bury the puck more.

Gardiner and Golobef I think and hope will be back next year.

I would also be worried about Schultz leaving....remember he was having grade issues. Maybe school isn't for him.

I agree completely with this minority opinion.

Thats because the Rangers will destroy any chance of him becoming a good player. I see it happen all the time!!!!! lol (my obvious disdain for the rangers)
They have some decent NCAA prospects, but I have a feeling they will either be dealt, or just be killed by the Rags development. More than likely to be dealt by the trigger happy Rangers. May be different now with Jim Shoenfeld developing players though.....

I think McD will be a great player. I was surprised and ****ed that Slats was able to pry him from Gainey for that bum Gome$.

Sorry for my NHL rant.....

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

RIT had no business even being associated with this game, and by the 3rd period, it was pointless that they even took the ice. This was one of the most pathetic hockey performances I have ever seen from a Badgers opponent. You could throw in high school freshmen, and they would have put forth a better effort. That team is terrible. The fact that they got to the frozen four is a horrible embarrassment to the schools defeated, just as much as being a supreme embarrassment to have let RIT get that cheap goal on the Badgers at the end of the 2nd. This game was a scrimmage against a bunch of kindergardeners. The next game is going to have a colossally different feel.

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

And Miami had no business being there either right?
RIT earned there way in just like the other three teams and changed our school's history. They obviously didn't bring much to the game Friday but that's not how they beat #2 Denver and UNH.
I will say that Wisconsin was the most impressive team that I watched all year, but I am sure you could say they didn't belong on the ice in their 6-1 loss to Minnesota or the 5-1 loss to St. Cloud if that's your mindset.
Every team has bad games and it was a bad time for RIT to have theirs. I am not going to hold it against them though. They had an outstanding year and put themselves in the mix with teams that are put together via bigger budgets, bigger bodies and some world-class players. RIT did it with world-class teamwork, coaching and hustle. Congrats guys on the best season in RIT history and putting RIT on the map!
