Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I'm a newbie to NCAA hockey. So is the CCHA the only conference that has a shootout? How about 4 on 4 in overtime?

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

No. 5x5 in overtime. The CCHA went to a system that awards 3 points for a regulation or OT win, 2 for a shootout win, and 1 for a shootout loss. If you lose in regulation or OT you get a kick in the butt along with 0 points. Yes, they are the only NCAA conference to use the shootout.

Now, once OT is over, the NCAA recognizes the game as a tie. The shootout only affects CCHA standings.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

As for Kirzinger, he was eligible to dress for tonight's game. He was given a game misconduct, not a disqualification. His scratch tonight was at Daniels' discretion.

Actually, the CCHA 'benched' Kirzinger due to this being his third game misconduct. At least that is what Dom announced on the radio during the game.

Congrats on your Title. Hope the Buckeyes can take care of the irish next weekend and have a chance to come up to Big Rapids in round 2!

Ah. So that is why they had the game down as a 1-1 tie with the shootout mentioned in brackets.

Thanks

Just dropping in to say congrats on the title, truly well deserved. I have some family connections to Ferris, so in the absence of any Miami interests, I guess I could see myself as a closet 'Dogs fan :D

Interesting, I would have loved to know that Saturday night. It's also chicken**** since their supplemental review of all major penalties should have revealed a clean hit to the chest that looked bad in real time and resulted in a contact to the head misconduct.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I've mentioned previously how I think a four game showcase featuring Ferris vs. State and Western vs. U of M on Saturday and then Western vs. State and Ferris vs. U of M on Sunday at the Van Andel would be pretty nifty. Throw it on "Hockey Weekend in Michigan" and get all four schools two non-conference games, split the gate revenue and get the Big Ten Network to put it on the tube.
That would be a pretty nice set up to do if they could pull it off. It would be easier to get them to get both Sparty and Michigan up to the Van Andel for a weekend than it would be to get them to K'Zoo and Big Rapids in the future. Personally, I would like to see them both in my home barn every so often if I'm FSU or WMU, but that would be a nice stop gap there. Then you would just have to figure out some weekend to have it on.

It'll be interesting to see how Michigan's travel situation shakes down. Right now they travel for less than one non-conference series per year, but that model probably won't be sustainable when they have more non-conference games available with the BTHC schedule. Additionally, UM has not shown the commitment to other Michigan schools that Michigan State has with their scheduling agreements with the MAC schools in football and olympic sports.

Ah. I stand corrected. The NCAA rulebook does call for a suspension upon a 3rd game misconduct.

I know I am a Homer, but the CCHA website doesn't even have a photo of the Bulldogs with the cup. There were plenty of photographers on the ice the when the cup was handed to the bulldogs. What gives!!!!! Show a little love CCHA.com!!!!

Yup, I missed that as well. As I understand, it was implemented just a couple years ago.

Well, no offense but sparty is at your level. We are not, although Michigan does schedule MAC teams (it's just in the big revenue sports they are always at Michigan for ecomical reasons).

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Please define "our level".

I agree that it will be very interesting to see how non-conference games work out. As it stands fans will be able to travel to games a lot less (its much easier to drive to Kalamazoo, East Lansing or even Ann Arbor than it is to take a weekend trip to Minnesota). I guess I would hope that teams will consider that and schedule some non-conference games that fans can actually drive to. I know a lot of fans enjoy going to away games a few times a season and to lose that opportunity would be a shame.

What level is that? CCHA Champions?

Well played.

The Spartans also have a better basketball program and this year they won in football. So maybe he's referring to Michigan's superiority in Women's Field Hockey.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

TWICE in your history. I already congratulated you. BTW, please remember that you are D-II...

Typical Michigan fan. We are D-2 in all sports except hockey obviously and last i checked this is a hockey form. All that was being said was hopefully down the road we can still play the Wolverines. I forgot though how superior Michigan is though above everybody. :p

Thank you.
