Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Oh, this thread just got awkward in a hurry, didn't it? :D

For those of you who don't know, or haven't been paying attention, Mr Mrg is either studying, or has become, a masseuse.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

I'm sure FSU Athletic Department might be reading this board. Any reccomendations for them?
Anything else you, or others have in mind, to promote Bulldog Hockey around the community?

The ONLY division 1 sport around, NOTHING to do in Big Rapids, WHAT IS THE DEAL with 1,200 a night in a 2,493 seat arena!?

I was thinking of maybe, giving away a few tickets in hopes of free advertising on the big Grand Rapids sports station, WBBL. Maybe take an ad out in the Grand Rapids Free Press?

Don't quite a few teams give FREE tickets to students? Dom mentioned that Miami students were waiting in line for hours to get a good seat, and Miami students do get free tickets, right?

Look at the numbers when FERRIS did give free tickets to students (vs. UCONN, Friday< Oct 16, 2009). Attendance was up an easy 600 people; 1800 vs roughly 1100-1200, on average.

Come on FERRIS, fill the arena AND give the students a break!

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

You know, it's too bad we don't have the fan interest to create TWO student sections. One in the current location, and the other one in Sections A-C. They could harass the goaltenders non-stop. :D

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

For starters, let's be careful about that 13,800 number. Are we sure that those students are all on campus in Big Rapids? Does that number include the Kendall College in Grand Rapids? I don't know the answers to that question one way or the other.

I believe that number includes EVERYONE, on-campus and off-campus. If a person takes one class in Detroit, they are now one of the 13,800.

I recruit and the number I use is 13,000, and I tell people that number includes everyone in the system. I use 10,000 as a conservative number for on-campus and/or full time students. I brag as much as I can, but still stay honest, even conservative on the numbers I use.

The latest Ferris Factbook says 13,532, but that is last Fall's numbers (2008). It also states that of the 13,532 students, 9,871 are full-time, and 11,019 are on the main campus.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

So 11,000+ is the number of students that we're shooting at. That's still plenty to draw from.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

I'd be willing to bet a pitcher of beer that a good majority of the fans wouldn't know if Robert Morris was a person or a college.

I'm gonna go with both.

Sadly, I don't think the quality of our opponents is what's killing our early season attendance. We'd get the same amount of people showing up whether we're playing North Dakota or Dakota Fanning. Anyone who wants to see prolific hockey schools is already in the building.

I'm sure Notre Dame and Ohio State are more appealing draws in Big Rapids (b/c of their football reputations) but Northern Michigan and Miami have the better hockey programs.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

By the recaps it looks like you guys had some pretty good goaltending from your tandem. How did Nagle look?

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

So Ferris State is not ranked. I guess two that is the perfect position with 2 "ties" to the #1 team in the nation. A win might have got us that one last spot.

None the less, Ferris States Student Section Facebook group already has 330 Members "Attending" the games this weekend vs. Ohio State - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=182917891007&ref=nf#/event.php?eid=182917891007&ref=nf

The main student section holds 428 seats seats/people. It extends around that corner for 750 people. Half way there!! But it's not really the students were worried about. It's more the community to fill that other side across from the student section.

Think Ferris will pull off 2,000 Friday night? No High School Football around town, no Basketball is playing. Coming off a weekend "Sweep" of the #1 team in the nation on National Television. 6-0 at home with back-to-back-to-back home sweeps. Playing Ohio State Buckeyes. This might be a good one for the Bulldogs.

Ummm.... you might want to check again about no HS football going on in Big Rapids this weekend. Traverse City St. Frances takes on Ravanna at Top Taggart this weekend in the Division 7 semifinal. http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/tournament/3050/
Winner faces the winner of Hudson-Ubly at Ford Field next weekend.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Well, the Dawgs bring in the Ohio State Buckeyes this weekend.

Currently FSU is 6-0 at home (Back-to-Back-to-Back Home Sweeps), and just came off a weekend "sweeping" the #1 team in the Nation on the road. (Don't criticize me, I know they count as ties). Record: 7-3-2 overall and 2-2-2-(2) in CCHA

The Buckeyes: 5-6-1 overall and 4-3-1-(1) in the CCHA. OSU just swept Western Michigan in Columbus. Ohio State holds a 56-41-12 advantage over Ferris State in the all-time series which originated in the 1978-79 season. The Bulldogs are 27-22-4 at home. Six of the last eight meetings have been determined by two goals or more with the Bulldogs producing a 5-1-0 mark in such contests. The Bulldogs have registered an 11-7-3 record in November encounters against Ohio State, which includes a 6-4-1 home ledger. (FSU Athletics Communications)

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Yea the Bulldogs have done well against the nuts since the days of RJ Umberger (sp?). I have to say that I am pretty giddy about this weekend. My expectations will skyrocket with a sweep.

Well here's to no more game tying goals with seconds to go (i'm still recovering from that heart attack) and to another six points.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Much like the Bulldogs, tOSU shares time between a junior and sophomore goaltenders. Both Carlson and Heeter have very good sv% but Carlson, the Friday netminder is 1-5-0 and Heeter, the Saturday guy is 4-1-1. It seems like a team issue and not a goalie issue. The Buckeyes have a fairly deep scoring attack. Lots of guys contribute and it is led by Dalpe who is putting up one point per game. Ferris definitely has the experience advantage with five contributing seniors while tOSU only has one and he is not even one of their top 8 scorers. On the other hand, tOSU has played a bit of a tougher schedule but they have struggled against the tough teams while Ferris has faired better against their tougher opponents. So, all of that on top of home ice advantage, I am predicting a...

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

The Bulldogs have already taken 12 pts. from Ohio teams this year. Count me in for another 6.

Too bad Findlay folded.

Go Dawgs!
