Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

So this means nothing? Great. I was happy for Ferris.

But I guess I could have seen that looking at Bemidji State at #1

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

so I'm listening to the game (Friday at Miami) and this radio announcer is like nothing i have ever heard. Ferris' goal in the second was follwed by a rant about how "this team is for real" and "they're just that good".

he has some fantastic energy and is a complete homer (which is nice every now and then when you support a small school). i could pick the broadcast apart but he's young so i'll just keep enjoying the game.

"(Ferris) is tied with Miami, the number one team in the world. yes I can say world because we are the only college hockey league in the world" - Dominic Henning

Rich.

Eh, what the hell. It's still better than listening to Beckwith talk about his dancing legs in between periods. I've checked the kid out a few times. He sounds like he'll be fine. He just needs minutes behind the mike to sharpen his skills.

Homers are usually fine as long as they don't get sloppy or act like Ken Harrelson (White Sox announcer).

It's a good night to be a Bulldog.

I smile for you, Hammer. Better than witnessing the last three at Yost. Pathetic.

Yeah, I've kept my eye on that. What hell is going on?

I heard that comment too, but you took it the wrong way I think. He mentioned that they were that good, but not as in that good going to the NCAA Tournament, and taking the National Title. He was mentioning how they are that good of a hockey team to the supporters back in Big Rapids and to start coming to the games, and what more is it going to take to go 6-0 at home, and then beat the #1 team in the nation in their arena on the road.

Obviously if you were listening to him, you are in big rapids. Why pick apart your own radio guy? Also, make sure you have the correct knowledge before criticizing him.

I asked him if he read these chat forums one day, and he said no because there are people who like to start stuff, and mention stuff that has no apparent reason to the game what so ever on there. Obviously, this is a prime time example.

I'll shoot him an E-Mail, I bet he'll get a laugh.

Any other division 1 college hockey leagues in the world that can beat our NCAA's top college hockey teams? I believe Hennig is right...

What is your deal against him? Pick the game apart, not the radio guy? Wow. The kid just turned 18 and is calling Division 1 College Hockey, give him some slack. There are guys in this league who are in their 50's.

I don't want to hijack the thread here. Let's just say that they are playing at the same level as the mid-80's teams. No offensive finishers ("certain" go-to vets have disappeared), constant turnovers, no discipline, erratic goaltending, no chemistry. They look as if they are playing scared and frustrated now. Pretty bad when Red refers to them as "fragile". Could be in for a long season, but there is time to turn this around. They have the talent, but lack the confidence and cohesion. I dunno, the Yost regulars that you know are pretty speechless at this point.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

we've been through this before. I don't walk blindly with faith that Ferris is just always good and the coaching is always good and our announcers are always good and our arena is always good. all of those things have their flaws and i don't think it is wrong to analyze them...especially as a fan.

Secondly, am I the only one who thinks that FerrisStateHockeyFan and Dominic Henning are either the same person or really good friends?

They both made the same comments about how and why Ferris should be ranked. Every weekend, FSHF posts something about or that mentions Dominic Henning. They both arrived on the scene at the same time. Henning almost echoed Hammer's comments about Ferris' discipline problems. they're both extremely excited about how good Ferris is this year. After the first game, when Henning's goal call was criticized in this forum...he changed it. and now, FSHF explains exactly what Henning meant by his on air statements.

I may be wrong. but i was suspicious before listening to the internet feed last night. after I heard him, I was almost convinced. I think it would be pretty cool to have the voice of the Bulldogs chat with us every week.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

And I figured I was going to be the one to catch hell on this thread today. :D

As I said last night, Dom'll be fine on the broadcasts. There's things that I don't like, but you could say that about any announcer under the sun, Ernie Harwell and Bruce Martyn exempted. Once Mr. Hennig gets some more games and experience with college hockey under his belt, he'll be fine. IMO he's a sizable upgrade from Bill Beckwith. I did not care for the way he called Ferris games.

Homers are usually fine behind the mic as long as they keep it reasonably in check (read: NOT Ken Harrelson from the White Sox or the a-hole announcer for the Avalanche).

We got 2 points last night where we were less than 30 seconds away from getting none. I'll happily take it. We still need another 10 points or so over the next 7 games or we're still in trouble.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Is it time to begin asking questions about Cody Chupp? 0 even strength goals on the season. He's supposed to be the offensive leader of this team and he's just not putting up the numbers. It's nice that they're getting it done without his goals. I would just like to see what this team would look like if he was producing at the level we know he can play.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

FerrisFan...get off the topic of Hennig. He's doing an amazing job for an 18 year old in this league...

I'd like to hear you call a game. Not many people have the brain capacity to call a sport as fast as hockey, watch it, think about it, think what your going to say, and then actually say it descriptively on the radio.

So what if he says something that doesnt make sense once or twice in three hours...

It's his what, 9th game calling college hockey? Come on.

But yeah, I do agree with you. I think it would be pretty cool too if our Radio Announcer was on here chatting with us too. Dom? If your out there...

i believe i am giving him slack. you can give someone slack without ignoring what they're doing altogether. i'm not picking him apart. i acknowledged his age and experience. i simply commented on 2 things he said. i'm not calling for his head and i'm not even saying he's bad. i obviously listened very closely which means i was captivated which means he was captivating me. i thoroughly enjoyed his color commentary which is why i posted some of the things he said which i thought were funny.

members of the media put themselves out there publically and they are well aware that everything they say and do is subject to the microscope of public opinion. i choose to be a private citizen with the exception of what i post on the internet which i am aware is free to be criticized by you. if i were a member of the media i would fully expect to be criticized by the public and i wouldn't be able to care any less just like Dominic Henning doesn't care what i say about him.

i don't mean to sound like a negative nancy. i'm critical of Ferris hockey and everything that has to do with it because i love it and i want them so badly to succeed.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

I agree with you 100% ferrisfan1. The only problem that I myself had with it, and it kind of seems like FerrisStateHockeyFan had too, is you believed he was the poster on here.

That right there can hurt a destroy him, because if it is not him, and you are pointing out weird points that it is him. The athletic department at FSU could go back and read all the posts FSHF had written over the past few months, and those could completely destroy him, or at least put him on a probation basis.

That is why I never call anyone out and try to guess who it is on these boards even though I've had some speculations in the past. Also, since this is his first year, he is most likely on a trial period. So I am not critising anything in public until maybe next year. I've had reccomendations to him too, I just shoot him an e-mail to generic e-mail adress they have at Ferris State.

Until tonight, we'll both be listening I guess.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Well I must say that I continue to be impressed with Ferris' defensive efforts this year; especially between the pipes. Nagle and Nelson both have great save percentages (3rd and 11th in the nation respectively) which I feel is the best measure of a goalie. But it is the consistency that has been the most important thing. When a team knows that they can trust their goalie every night, that sets the tone for how the team plays. Let's hope they keep it up.

On the other side of the ice, I'm still waiting for Captain Chupp to get involved. They'll probably need him sooner or later.

Great weekend boys.

Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing

Leave Dom alone he is doing an amazing job and I hope his excitement for the program and the team is contagious.
Loved the games this weekend and I'm excited about our chances against OSU.
Our goalies stepped up and played strong.

Agreed. Moratorium on the Hennig stuff for the moment, please. We can revisit him in a month or two if we wish. You can tell that an announcer is doing okay if I'm not ripping into him. :D

We've got bigger fish to fry at the moment. We're 0-0-2 with 3 more weeks to go in the evaluation process, and I suspect that we're past the 2 hardest games of this time frame. And yes, in the eyes of the NCAA, these two games this weekend are ties. The extra points are gravy.
