Re: Ferris State Hockey 2009-10 - 2 minutes for slashing
All right, let's get back to business, shall we?
We're not ranking. Big *ing Deal. The rankings are useless. I don't want to hear about them again. The PWR comes out in January. That's the one to pay attention to. Mention the rankings in here and you're likely to get red from me.
The creampuff part of the schedule is over. 5-1 is what I thought we should do (I refer you to the first post in this thread, almost at the end of that post). Quite frankly, I'm surprised that we did it. Now conference play opens up in a place where, frankly, we have not played well: Alaska. Alaska was quite similar to Ferris last season. Both teams struggled mightily to score, as UA's leading scorer had a whopping 22 points last year and only two guys had 10 goals. We were roughly in the same boat. The big difference last year was the goaltending. Chad Johnson was outstanding and was a huge key to their success. He is gone. Surprisingly, their goaltending has been nearly as good this season.
Ferris' biggest problem continues to be the penalty minutes. We've played 6 games and have taken 4 CFB majors and have racked up more PIM than I would care to admit. The goalscoring has been spotty at times, which I expected (getting shut out by Canisius should not happen), and the goaltending has been very good.
Over the past couple years Ferris has had the tendency to throw a ton of shots on net but only put in 2-3 a night. I've seen more than my share of 46 SOG, 2-goal nights. Unfortunately, I think we're looking at the same thing this weekend. A couple of 2-1 or 3-2 games, but I think Ferris flies out of Alaska with a split. Oh, and more penalty minutes.
