5-1 win tonight over Canisius. Three freshmen got on the board: Alexander, Ouellette and Bonis got their first collegiate goals. 12 PIM and 1-3 on the PP. Still can't give the opposition 6 power plays, but I'll happily look the other way on that one tonight.

I too am pleased. We got to win every joke non-conference game that we can. It's nice to see the freshmen scoring, we're definitely going to need that.
Thanks for pointing out that ridiculous PIM stat in your first post. There is still room for more disciplined hockey with 12 PIMS, but it could be a lot worse.
That's about all I can infer from a box score. Any radio listeners or Canisians in attendance out there?

I tried picking the radio feed off of Canisius' website, but I would have had more success going outside and trying to get it to stop raining.
The 12 PIM I can deal with, as long as we're taking someone with us when we go to the box. You probably don't want those 12 minutes giving the opposition 6 full power plays, which is exactly what we did tonight. The sweet spot, at least for Ferris, appears to be around the low-18-minute mark (which is still too high for my taste, but whatever). At least the penalty kill was 6-6 tonight. Last year after the first two series we were somewhere just under 70%. That's the quickest recipe I know of for finishing at the bottom of the standings: high PIM and hideous PK. Limited sample size here, but so far, so good.
The complaint department is closed for tonight. We won. I'm happy. End.
Did you read Paula's season preview? Is it me, or is Daniels calling out some of the upperclassmen in the locker room regarding the goalscoring?

All right, looking at the box score
Ferris had 43 PIM after the game was over. Menke getting a DQ after the game was over for CFB is stupid, plain and simple, and Wysopal's CFB-DQ in the 2nd isn't any better. If the box score is correct, and they're indeed DQ's and not misconducts, then both of them are out next Friday night. That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about when I rant about the penalties. The other crap after the game doesn't mean much, as it was all offsetting.
Also, Wietecha was not in the lineup last night. I hope that Daniels is just looking at other guys on defense, and that he's not injured.

Does Bob Daniels just not give a crap about on ice discipline, or is he actually coaching them to be a feisty group that takes a ton of PIM's for their 'aggressive' style?

I guess that would explain why it's an issue year after year after year. I understand the philosophy behind icing a team that is built to play physically, but it has to be implemented with solid discipline to prove effective. For the past 5-6 years, that's been the glaring weakness. Yes, their style has netted some wins against the top programs, but it also results in a lot of losses when they otherwise could and would have been in the game.
Ferris could consistently finish on the higher end of the mid-tier CCHA teams if they could just stay out of the **** box. They have the talent, but sorely lack the discipline. And yeah, that falls squarely on Daniels shoulders.

One other recommendation, if you're in the area: go to the games. Both of them. Support this program. The school needs it. The players need your support. The only reason I don't go to the games is because I'm 200 miles away. Otherwise I'd have season tickets in either Section I or J. Instead I make it a point to see them play at BG and at Yost, both 40+ mile trips for me.

I say we develop the greatest short handed goal scoring offense the game of hockey has ever seen! Sort of like Ferris hockey's form of the wildcat offense.
Tonight is free student admission (did a good idea finally come out of the FSU Athletic Dept.?!?!?) My source at the game says it's a full house except for the east end bleachers, which only fill up when Traverse City youth teams are in town.
I hope we beat UConn so non-college hockey fans think we have a good team.
