ESPN sucks

Re: ESPN sucks

The domestic rights are owned by CBS (Viacom?) but the NCAA packages the international broadcast rights with the rest of the NCAA sports. If they split out all the sports individually most other sports would go begging. No one is going to broadcast hockey, volleyball, bowling, softball and even the college World Series on a national basis if not contractually obligated to do so.
Pretty sure the rights to the college football championship are the how and why ESPN has the rights to everything else. Along with the international rights.

"Want to air the Championship Football Game? Sure, just as long as you broadcast most every other championship."

Re: ESPN sucks

Technically, the coverage last night was great. But man, they need to find a new announcing team. Buccigross and Melrose are both awful, Kessenich asks questions like, "Why did you guys come out flying?" -- I don't know, I guess playing for the championship had something to do with it.

Every time NoDak's kid had the puck in the third period: "he'soneawayfromahattrick." Plus all the jargon, the catchphrases ... that's not how you broadcast a sporting event. Stay in the studio, Bucci. I love that he's a hockey fan, but he doesn't need to shove it down our throats with every word he speaks. Yes, you're such a big hockey fan, you call a stick a twig. We get it, dude.

I'm not even going to start with Melrose. What a freakin' trainwreck. Pretty easy to see why he got fired 16 games into his last coaching job. The guy is clueless.

I mean, surely ESPN can do better.

And ESPN has the World Cup of Hockey. I can only guess who will be calling the Finals.

No? Goddammit.

Hey, ESPN isn't the only one. BTN had women's water polo on yesterday. I know there probably wasn't anything else on, but during the hockey season they had **** like that on when there were Big 10 hockey games going. They both suck it.

**** like that gets better ratings on BTN.

Re: ESPN sucks

For the second year in a row, ESPN International (which has two channels) didn't show the title game live (last year was more of a problem for me), despite showing the semi-final games. Not sure when or if they will ever show it.

I don't think ESPN is particularly wild about the NCAA Division 1 football championship. North Dakota State vs. Jacksonville State isn't exactly a matchup that gets the non-aficionado's juices flowing.
