Saw some talk in a couple of spots about the growing transfer portal list for D3 hockey. Might as well get a thread going 🤷‍♂️

Stories to watch so far:

- Salve Regina is crumbling in real time with 15+ players entering the portal as conference future is uncertain

- POTY Shane Soderwall of Curry is entering the portal after 2 phenomenal seasons (posting .947 SV% & 1.52 GAA) and a frozen four appearance

- CHL players become eligible for NCAA hockey, with impacts for many D1 rosters and players, and possible domino effects for D3 teams

Not sure what else people are hearing and seeing but might as well hear from you all about what’s to come for an even more competitive D3 next season.

There are a couple Salve forwards in the Portal that will be big pickups for someone. One of the forwards has 3 years of eligibility remaining after like a 30 point freshman season and a somewhat productive Junior career in the USHL and BCHL.
 
Former Utica goalie ethan roberts is in the portal again after 4 months. What a difference a year can make. Buddy might have to spend his last year playing ACHA

Ok well what do ya think the coaching staff will do, bring in an experienced net minder to challenge Milberg,seems to be many in the portal ,or find another freshman to fill the spot???..many many players getting spots on D1 teams from the OHL QMJHL,etc etc, that will probably feed into things like this situation.....
 
Can't say I blame the kid. McCarthy struggled a lot and gosek still picked him over z almost every time he had the opportunity. He played pretty well for those most part given his limited opportunities. He's from IL so I hope he goes out west and we don't have to see him again cause I have a bad feeling he's gonna prove some people wrong

Not sure but maybe some of these type players still want to go D1 and they throw their names in the ring, but not sure what happens if they dont get picked up by a D1 team????? I would imagine it would be a awkward situation to go back to your original team.......

As far as Z and McCarthy they both did not have to much ice,I would imagine coach went with who was looking better in practice,I always tell my daughter that you make your game time in practice, especially if there is a close competition.....Best of luck to Z.....

I would guess that they are both hoping for D1 offers. Especially a guy like Schmuck who scored over 30 goals as a freshman and has 3 years of eligibility left. Might as well shoot your shot on that.
