End of Verbal Agreements??

Re: End of Verbal Agreements??

Re-read what I said. I never said anything about poaching kids.
I don't think he is talking about poaching MTU or MSU-M's recruits. Hak said that the gentleman's agreement is something that needs to be looked at.
“Verbal commitments, early commitments and long lists of future commitments are serious areas of discussion right now,” Hakstol said. “There are a lot of sides to that issue. It’s a very complicated issue. My opinion has changed over time. I was a very strong proponent of it eight to 10 years ago. I think we need to find a middle ground on verbal commitments.

“I think we want to continue the gentlemanly side of college hockey and our close-knit community. At the same time, I think it’s time we take a real close look at exactly what we’re doing.”

Re: End of Verbal Agreements??

SCSU just lost a kid mid season to major junior. I know that has nothing to do with recruiting, but any agreement that keeps them away from our players would be huge.

that's a different topic, and I agree... I suppose (and I didn't read the article) I'm worried that that CH Inc is getting into the verbal agreement fray.

edit: If we're dealing in with what Lucia is saying... that is the "youth poaching" then that makes sense... there is a point where its just too far out... especially with many not arriving to campus until they're 20. If we're talking about no honor at all even within the conferences then you're just going to have coaches at each others throats... that's the big part of it... the conferences would have a hard time functioning if they all hate each other.

Come on Goon, you should know that "Americans" is Jdubbs way of saying "Minnesotans"...:p:D:D

You need to work on your hack journalism, re-read my post, and point out where I said "Minnesotans".

But I will say that precious program you think so highly of should use fewer Canadians, but you'll never understand that.

btw, when you sum up 99% of your posts with smiley faces,

nah, I wont say it, you may try and get another poster banned.

Re: End of Verbal Agreements??

Whom else's recruits is he referring to? The small schools are exactly who will be targeted.
I don't see the "Big Schools" taking the little schools recruits. What are you suggesting that Boston College, Boston University, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, UMN etc now going to try and steal the other schools recruits?

yes, we're talking about exactly that.

Re: End of Verbal Agreements??

First, Hak definitely is concerned about the CHL, ( what with is words about the knife fight) but his solution is to get players from the small teams, no question. Could it be that small teams are doing a better job of recruiting the players he wanted?

Yes having kids commit in 9th or 10th grade is not the best, but I don't see this as a solution.

Yes. Whose recruits did you think they were going to target? If you're Hak or Lucia, etc... and you lose a player to the CHL late, you're going to approach a kid that you may have had marginal interest in before, but didn't offer, whom is now committed to a smaller school. Some of those kids would jump at the chance to go to one of the big programs that didn't offer them before.

What did you think all this meant? Big schools stealing recruits from other big schools? Might happen, but those will be very few and far between IMO.

Here's a related question: Are we seeing more NLI's being signed at the smaller schools? Coaches are prohibited from commenting on recruits with verbal commitments, but when are they allowed to speak? Is it when the recruit signs a NLI, or when the recruit's application and deposit have been received by the school? I'm under the impression it's the latter, but I still get confused.

First, I have never tried to get another poster banned.

Second, I sum up a lot of my posts with laughs and smiley faces because I don't take this stuff that seriously...it's a game played by young kids. Perhaps when I was in high school or even early in college I took it very seriously, but as the years have passed, I've learned to enjoy the game and have fun with it. You should really try it some time.

Third, I'm not a journalist.

Fourth, why should I care where North Dakota recruits from? The answer is it doesn't matter. When kids come to the University of North Dakota, they are playing for that university, not where they came from. I'm pretty sure most Gopher fans think of Thomas Vanek as a Gopher player...not as an Austrian that came in and stole a Minnesotan's scholarship, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Finally, I was having fun with you with my post. If you can't laugh at yourself from time to time, you have problems.

:p:D:D

You didn't have someone banned recently "sure ya didn't" You can dish it out but ya can't take it. You resort to a chickensh1t way of dealing with it.

I think your smiley faces are more on par with a 14yr old girl having fun on myspace than a college grad. And just as I figured, you wouldn't understand the reason I think the Sioux should be using fewer Canadians. Thats convenient and typical.

And btw, do you actually use this site to tally your votes for that College Hockey Weekly power poll? Need I say it?

Journalist, writer, wannabe guru, blogger. Hack job just the same.

Next time you hack your way thru another "best of" you should compute how many Canadians it costed per banner.

Goon's in denial.
I can't wait to see how this unfolds, if the Hak gets his way, it should ode well for SCSU, UNO etc right? pffft

Re: End of Verbal Agreements??

I love when Dubbs whines and cries. Perhaps he should try going on a swearing tirade since that worked so well for his friend.
