Okay, so what's with gnats swan diving into neat rum? I'm two-fisting it right now on the deck coz I'm trying some stuff I brought back from my Louisville trip and for the second time this summer, have found a gnat or two floating in my neat rum. They completely ignore the rum and coke right next to it.

On the other hand, what a way to go.

The reason for the two-fisting is that these are moderately priced rums that most would probably say fall in that in-between area of enjoying them neat or needing to mix.

Diplomatico Reserva

and not sure what the actual name of the other one is as the label is full of type with no real hierarchy:

Old Man Guavaberry Brand Country St. Maarten Aged 5 Years in Oak Republic Rhum Rum Ron

Both are worthy additions to the collection - which is at a ridiculous state right now.

I had a dragonfly basically kamikaze into my Leinie's Big Eddy Golden Nektar, and I don't blame him. Mead/beer meld, of sorts. Yeah, all the refreshing summer drink.

Aguardiente : well worth a taste or 12 if you make it to Colombia.

Sounds like you need to invest in some sippy cups.

I can't believe it's taken them this long to capitalize on that.

Well, they have been selling it for a few years in limited quantities, because the only place you could get it was at the Universal theme park. I'm curious if the knock-offs were of inferior quality and that's what caught their ire, and thus decided not to pressure them into a licensing agreement, looking to create a standardized experience worldwide, or if it's more of an iron fisted approach to protecting The Simpsons brand name.

They used to serve it at Moe’s Tavern & Grill near the Capital in Madison. It must have been one of the knockoffs that was not official. Tasted like a ****ty lager.

It must have been a knockoff because they described a microbrew for the actual Duff being served at the theme park. Whether or not it's a good micro, that's up to those who've actually tasted it. A lager, however, it is not.

It's made by Florida Beer Company and it is a lager. I was at Universal a couple weeks ago and had one and it was mediocre at best and that's because it was 100 degrees out and the beer was wet.

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Have found some good beer in South America. Bogota had several beers that I enjoyed. Bogota Beer Company makes some good beer. Also like some of the offerings from Club Colombia, the Negra (a Schwarzbier) was the best of that bunch. Also tried a beer from a brewery I can't recall from Medellin.

In Argentina, I was very surprised to find that there are several craft breweries in the region of Patagonia where I was working. 2 specifically in the town that I was staying. The breweries weren't in Untappd, so I added them, then I showed the bartender, who's sister was the owner/brewer of one of the breweries, called Arbol. He thought the app was pretty awesome, so I'm guessing Arbol will have all of its beers in there soon enough. Arbol has a smoked red ale that was amazing. Nothing like a beer you'd expect down here. Slightly hoppy, nothing overpowering, a little malty, and a mellow smoke finish that is just there enough, and nowhere near overpowering. One of the best examples of a smoked beer I've had. The other brewery I tried is called Nihilista, I only had a stout from them, and it was good, not great, I'd definitely had tried more of their beer if I wasn't distracted by the Arbol beers, and if we didn't have to get to dinner.

There is also a brewery in Mar del Plata, so I'm hoping wherever we go for dinner tonight, I can try some of their beer. They have an imperial stout I want to give a shot.

Had a Founder's Rubaeus....on friggin' NITRO today. Yeah, it was delicious.

Victory Golden Monkey is the beer of choice on this hot and humid day, overall, though.

Sunday and the first half of Monday will be spent checking out Portland, ME.... Seems like the downtown area has all sorts of brewpubs and micro brews available... It'll be interesting to see how it compares to what we get around the Midwest here....

Re: EMERGENCY - I'm drinking and the old drinking thread is closed!

Had some Old Fashioneds at a place in Houghton, because we knew they made really good ones. Bonus: my first round was free, because at another bar on Thu night, met a a couple who both worked at the O.F. place, who were fellow "Chivers," and she was working last night and saw me.

Travelling to the NE corner of the U.P. today, hitting up a brewery or two to get/refill growlers, then tonight it's all the scotch at our hotel, which has an extensive menu.

Then tomorrow, stopping at a few more breweries to get/refill growlers as I make my way home.
