Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: No Reply At All

Elmira will not only be in the PrimeLink, but the Northfield Savings Bank Tourney as well.

FSU v. Elmira

FSU v. Elmira

- About 350 fannies in the seats, not bad for a weeknight blizzard. End of the first, 16 FSU students ... 9 EC students; pathetic.
- Sawyer's presence makes a huge defensive difference
- McDonald had a solid game, but was only really tested 2 or 3 times (see prior point)
- Elmira hustled all night, but the finesse is really lacking. More passes did not connect than did (Archambault's absence is notable)
- EC survived two 3 on 5 situations. Took the wind out of the Devils' sails
- FSU has nice size (10 from Western Canada) and plays solidly, but not quite a quick as EC
- Feola officiated ... interesting
- Goal 1 awarded to Linden from the left point, but Hoey was distracting the goalie and I think tipped it in
- Consorti got #2 on a nice 2 v 1 from Darcy
- Linden got #3 on a nifty pass from Darcy behind the net

Lines well balanced
- Vallaincort, Willer, Consorti
- Owszarczak, Sanders, Shrank
- Clewlow, Strale & Hoey (fun to watch until Strale got the gate)
- Herold, Morissette & Acorn

Strale's fiver and game was a joke, then Sanders' checking from behind was completely wrong call; Fredonia player stepped on his stick and fell. Although, the makeup call on the hook cancelled it out. Some of the offsides calls were peculiar, unless they passed some new rule I'm not aware of that forces the puck to be across the line before any part of an offensive player. McDonald's side to side was much better in this game than the Hobart game (the most recent game I've seen him in). Fredonia's goal was the result of a good effort to crash the net although Hehr from Fredonia pushed McDonald in the net by putting his tick in the gut and driving forward. Schrank let the refs know he wasn't thrilled with the call, but it ended up not being important in the end. A couple of good clean hits tonight for both teams. Fredonia seems like a team that can steal a game, however, they need to be more effective along the boards to be successful in the SUNYACs.

Ooc

Ooc

The ECAC/W is 42-10-8 against in OOC play, the majority of games against the SUNYAC which also has a winning OOC record. The best performance I can recall since the inter-conference page has been published. Great news for the teams, but bad news for a league trying to find a home.

Watch 5 NESCAC teams appear again in the first NCAA regional poll this year. [rolling eyes]

Helps not having Leb. Valley water the record down with 10 OOC losses.

Uc v ec

Uc v ec

- Whoever voted Utica top 10 must not have seen them play.
- They're a solid team predominantly consisting of EJHL players, but no match for Elmira (at least tonite).
- About 300 fans at the anthem, grew to 500 by the end of the 1st.
- 50 students bothered to show, but none before the start of the 2nd. They even chanted a couple of times
- Rink was painfully cold tonite, the reason my wife no longer attends
- The local rag covered the game with an actual photographer
- Elmira dominated play except after Heenan called his TO; then for 3-4 minutes the Pios overwhelmed EC with energy, scored, then dropped off again.
- EC lines were the same as v. Fredonia, except for Maclean replaced Morisette
- If Vallaincort and/or Willer don't get a sniff at All American, then the voters haven't seen them play (see goals 2 & 4)
- Ugly ugly 3rd - UC changed its forecheck, EC hadn't a clue how to break it and a junior high soccer game broke out

Goal 1 - Strale re-directed a shot/pass on the PP
Goal 2 - Willer pickpockets a defender, gave Vallaincort a one-timer. Goalie hadn't a prayer
Goal 3 - Clewlow Linda Ronstadt'd a defender and walked in on the keeper
Goal 4 - Vallaincort gives Willer a textbook one-time pass from the right circle
Goal 5 - Herold tipped in shot/pass from on his knees in the slot

Next wknd's pair @ M'ville will speak volumes for post season positioning....anyone making the trip to Playland?

Times they be a changin' ?

Times they be a changin' ?

EC is 6-4-1 against teams getting votes, and unbeaten in their last 8. Lest I jinx them, I'd prefer to see them not get any votes this week. They play better as an underdog with something to prove.

Interesting that Ma'ville never used their TO last evening despite being down by one!?

Re: Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

I am down here today for the Saturday game. Getting over stomach bug so didn't make last night's game.

Re: Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

Great weekend guys. Lets see how much respect we get this week in the polls.

Re: Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

Some thoughts from Friday night.....
1- this weekend was billed as huge for Mville - they did what they could to decorate the place and make it feel like a real home rink - but only so much you can do with birthday parties and tweeners walking around looking for the second sheet of ice on the upper level.
2 - about that upper level - took our seats up top above the benches, only to be asked by a County Cop to move to the other side - "they want the place to look filled up and standing room only" For single camera coverage on Mville's internet TV? Really?
3 - game...no flow in the first thanks to the zebras and some sleep walking by the Eagles....as the game progressed, EC seemed to find its groove and Mville found its trigger finger....memo to the home team - its a bit early to get down and dirty when its a one goal game and you are 8 min into the second period...on this night, at least, they had little discipline and no brain power.
4 - Spent the game with a freshman dad who's kid is already making an impact for EC - his enthusiasm and pride for his kid, while being able to sit back and just enjoy it all made the night extra special.

Did not see Saturday's contest - I was too busy cheering the Lakers up in Platty, but I was happy to see the Eagles made it a sweep.
