Elmira College 2011-2012

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Not certain of the accuracy, but livestats has a rather short bench for Elmira tonight. Only three lines, and neither Lee nor Gagne appears to have dressed for the game.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

4-3 brockport wins... um ? lets see. 11 penalties for EC. anyone else care to comment on this loss for EC ?
maybe cortland will beat us next.

Re: FSU v Elmira

Crushing blow to a team that cannot afford bad losses without the luxury of the Pool B bid this season.

Makes the Northfield Savings Bank Tournament almost a must win for EC now if they want to keep themselves in the Pool C hunt.

Would it be earth shattering if no ECAC-W team makes the 2012 field??

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

I have seen Elmira play twice this season, and they are good. I was shocked to see this score? Wow

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

I can almost guarantee an ecac west team will get a pool c bid

The team I saw at the Primelink wouldn't have lost this game. What happened?
This happened the last time we played at Brockport, went in thinking easy win and got burned. All those penalties, give up a short handed goal, can't win games that way.

Genny will probably be thinking the have a chance tonight but I'll bet EC comes out with a Vengance.

No Mercy Boys!!!!

Not if the criteria isn't there.

The ECAC West hasn't been as dominant out of conference as they have been recently and if they beat up on each other in their intra-conferece matchups, it's certainly feasible every team could have 8-9 losses and that'd be tough to secure a Pool C bid when more than likely it will be a 7-4 split, which means the East gets two Pool C's. The only other scenario is a 9-2 split with Adrian (assuming they win the MCHA) going to Oswego or Elmira and basically being classified as an East team.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

I was at the game. Not to make excuses, but, as for the penalties, the officiating was absolutely dreadful. The worst by far I've seen all year. Don't think we were used to the small ice surface, and the ice itself was TERRIBLE. Players were falling down all over the place, which led to Brockport's 2nd goal on a breakaway. Pucks were bouncing all over the place. That all said, though, I think there were stretches when we were very sloppy. It was one of those "playing down to your opposition" kind of nights. We also had opportunities to cash in and either Brockport's goalie made a great save, or they made a good defensive play. They did a good job of impeding us on that small ice.

I didn't think it was possible to have smaller ice than the domes or Plattsburgh ;)

Pool C bids are going to be hard to come by and with NU and CSC playng four games NCAA doesn't recognize St A's & St M's things will be tough for ECAC EAST if not touney winner

Norwich has a extra one this year with the Dartmouth game not counting. Only 20 games count for NU this year in the primary criteria.

Both teams had the same refs and same ice.....

Geneseo at EC

Geneseo at EC

Attendance was only ~600 at the anthem, but was over 1,000 by mid first.

EC
- DeMelo started in goal and played the entire game. Made two highlight reel saves in the 1st
- Lineup changes: Strale, Clewlow and Gagne replaced by Ciampichini, Morikawa and Maeder
- Impressed with Burnell, but again ... Vallaincort and Willer could make Dorothy Hamill look good. That line generated the majority of chances.
- Passing wasn't crisp at all tonight. Deja Vue the Oswego games
- Other than the A line, rushes were too predictable
- After getting down by three, pathetic effort on the dump-ins

GSU
- Controlled the neutral zone throughout the game. Knew exactly where EC was going with the puck
- Plays superb team defense
- Outworked EC in open ice and along the boards
- Goalie anticipates well, moves side-to-side quickly

Goals:
1 - Vallaincort snared a puck out of the air, caught GSU up ice, and found Burnell about 10 seconds in
2 - Nice pass from 12 to 11 (who'd gotten lost by the EC defense) from behind EC's net
3 - Lazy line change and defensive confusion lost the Genny player (again)
4 - 3x5 perfect 4-pass combo - deMelo lost his jock on this one
5 - 4x5 tip in of a blue-line shot
6 - 5x4 Burnell tipped in a Willer passhot

Either this is the typical mid-season slump, or EC is simply not that good. Here's hoping for a better 2nd half.

Re: Geneseo at EC

Poor effort tonight but my source says that a lot of the players are sick which explains for the line changes, lack of hard checking and poor timing on the passing. Good teams compensate for these issues, OTOH, the disallowed goal by EC was a huge set back, had it counted, who knows what the out come would have been.
