Elmira College 2011-2012

Re: Kudos to RLM Sports

Re: Kudos to RLM Sports

I feel shame. While “clickin’ around on the internets” this morning, I discovered that I had no idea about the amount of coverage RLM Sports is providing on Elmira College Hockey... both Men’s and Women’s home events. Webcasts, local venue FM simulcast, blogs... knew nothing about it until now. A broadcast schedule can be found on the RLM Sports website.

Some really nice pictures from last night’s Senior Night are displayed in the blog from that event. Fantastic group shots towards the end of the slideshow. Well done, RLM Sports... well done.

Cheers!!!

wait the games are on internet? video? I didnt know this

Re: Ma'ville v EC pt 3

Re: Ma'ville v EC pt 3

So they say, but I think this is limited to home games, and the video is on Fa$thockey. And I must recant one statement from my original post... it was stated that RLM carries "local venue FM simulcasts", however this is not applicable to EC Hockey. This disappoints me.

You see, I am one of those geeks that likes to listen to the radio coverage of the sporting event I am watching live. Some do not understand this desire, but it's not so much about the play-by-play commentary of action that is happening before my eyes, but more about the color and stats mentioned during stoppages... I find this information quite interesting. So I brought a small radio to a recent Woman's game, and after scanning the dial... found nothing. I inquired with the RLM folks post-game and was advised that they are only providing webcast audio and Fa$thockey video when at the Domes.

Oh well, it is certainly nice to have the webcast available for those out-of-town (family and fans alike), and for that I give well-deserved kudos, but I really wish they would set-up a very short range FM transmitter inside the Dome so we can pick-up the broadcast within the massive spherical Faraday Cage.

The tale of the season ... 5 minutes of brilliance, followed by 15 minutes of uninspired malaise. Here's hoping that a leader emerges or one can be recruited. It's been fun. See you all next season.

Congrats to coach Saul on the honors.

Guess that other thread got erased. Probably for the better

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Here's to scoreboard watching this weekend and all the favorites winning giving Elmira its best chance of still getting a bid.
Appreciate the kind words. Thanks!

Speaking objectively ... Elmira getting a bid would be a disservice to those teams actually playing well at season's end. JMHO, but I believe the 2º criterion of a team's record in the final x% of the season should carry much more weight than it does. I'd like to see the teams playing their best at the time of the tourney, in the tourney.

It's in the secondary criteria and used when the committee can't separate the teams with the primary ones. I'm guessing that Neumann can pass Elmira with a win over Hobart. Hobart is ranked, so a win helps Neumann in that regard, and of course it would help with the COP criterion and the committee could be creative...usually when all is said and done, it makes sense. Norwich, Amherst, Hobart and St. Norbert are going to be Elmira's best friends this weekend.

Do you assume Hobart has no chance of getting in the tourney even if they win?

First let me say that I also look forward to the recaps you give and I agree somewhat that EC should not get in. But if they do get in and I know that it does not count in the criteria; that winning your league regular season championship should count for something. I guess that why I am a fan with a heart and sometimes very little objectivity with the hope Coach Saul gets in and that the seniors have not played their last game. Again great work on the recaps and I hope that you get a chance to do it again this season.

Re: Cortland @ EC

Re: Cortland @ EC

I think most people pick Oswego to beat us, but that's OK. EC was given a 2nd chance. There's no pressure on them. The pressure is on Oswego. A great season ending with 2 straight losses wouldn't cut it in Oswego. Oswego HAS to win. Anything EC gets from this point is a bonus. I think it'll be a lot closer than it was on opening weekend. I forsee EC being loose, and if we jump on Oswego early, the heat will be on.
If Oswego does lose, I hope the 'Fire Gosek' thread doesn't resurface. That would be just nuts.
I'm going to Lake Placid regardless of whether EC wins or not. If we don't win, an Oswego-Plattsburgh rubber match with a trip to the NCAA final on the line would be exciting, but I'm hoping not to see it. :)

EC v OSU

EC v OSU

- I love the CC, great place to watch a game. Wish the FF could be there.
- No programs though!? you could scan a barcode and get one on your phone though
- Everett was officiating ... must be all the good ones were doing D1 games
- The Chris Nelson Insurance ad on the boards looked just like Aaron Saul
- Good EC contingent
- Oz is a very good team

Period 1:
- For the 1st 10 minutes, EC appeared slow, and Oz had the better chances
- When EC dumped in the puck, 4 or 5 times they hit the goalie!? Nerves maybe
- Toward the end of the 1st the ice tilted in EC's direction
O1 - Mouise simply outmuscled 2 defenders and shoved the puck in. Everett blew his whistle, then called it a goal. [rollseyes]

Period 2:
- For a couple of minutes EC couldn't clear their zone, but neither could Oz connect on a pass
- Lee dove in from the point a number of times, but never could capitalize
- Otherwise a stalemate

Period 3:
O2 - The EC defender fell down and Singleton just walked in and scored. EC got desperate, and it unraveled in a hurry
O3 - On a PP, all 5 EC skaters were below the tops of the circles, the puck popped out high, and Boots beat McDonald
O4 - 3x4, EC packed it in so tight that McDonald couldn't see anything
O5 - Nice odd man rush

In summary:
- EC could never get any distractions in front of the Oz net, and Oz's defense pushed everything to the sides for easy saves
- Offense seemed out of synch all night
- McDonald never made the big save to instill any confidence
- The team never got better after the first half of the season.

Sad end to a promising start.

Re: EC v OSU

Re: EC v OSU

Sad ending to the career of these Seniors. It would have helped if someone had stepped up big time, not much hitting, seems we were loosing all of the battles along the boards. This season is over, move on and worry about the incoming Freshmen and hope that they are as strong as this Senior class was when they came in. We are loosing some great talent BUT, we are also keeping some too. David, Hoey, Morikowa just to name a few. DeMelmo I hope gets the chance to take over the number one spot in goal, McDonald is IMHO an OK goalie, he had so much help in front of him, last night he didn't look too comfortable at all, so many times over the past several games, it looked like he just couldn't see the puck or was just a tad late seeing it.
NO BLAME here, you win as a team, loose as a team. Looking forward to some camping now, see you all in Oct. :-)

Re: Cortland @ EC

I am not blaming the game on the controversy over Oswego's first goal when Everett blew the whistle, then allowed the goal. You have to play through that stuff. That being said, in my 37 years of watching EC games, I've seen some terrible reffing, but Everett is the worst I've ever seen. 3 of the 4 most egregious blown calls now I've seen in my lifetime were by Everett. He has absolutely no clue how to officiate a hockey game.
I'm not pinning the loss on him. Oswego is a very good team. I just had to state my opinions. In the 09-10 season, our player Andrew Wilcox was viciously cross-checked and fell injured to the ice, and Everett called him for diving. This year against Manhattanville, he allowed play to go on with M'ville having too many men for several seconds. Then they left 6 men out there for the faceoff and they played with too many men for 20 seconds after the faceoff without being called. At one point they had 7 men out there. The man is absolutely clueless. There, I got it off my chest.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Frozen 4 which I believe truly has the 4 best teams in the country. See you all there.
