Elmira College 2011-2012

Cortland @ EC

Cortland @ EC

- 500 at the anthem
- The ice was ~really~ soft tonight; created a sloppy, choppy game
- Cortland has 8 transfers on its roster, and I thought Oswego was the option of 2nd choice!?
- The Dragons play a deep forecheck which EC took some time to solve
- Oakes wasn't dressed and Burnell left with what looked like a serious wrist injury
- Sylvester proved why he works only the non-competitive game. Arm up on a boarding, then dropped it and waved it off !?!? Then my favorite, the trip and dive concurrent calls :|
- EC continues to outshoot less skilled opponents, but struggles to score.

E1 - Consorti off a defender leg
C1 - PP - McDonald beat high glove side
E2 - Clewlow from Vallaincort - Deflects off a skate, seems to dishearten Cortland
Three scores in less than a minute
E3 - Willer from Sanders streaking across the crease
E4 - Clewlow from Vallaincort - Quick pass across crease
E5 - Clewlow from Vallaincort - " ' " "
End of 2nd, Bailey delivers a forearm shiver, and gets 5 and tossed
C2 - SH on a giveaway
E6 - SH on a giveaway

My prediction that Cortland was improving, and would finish top half SUNY was decidedly wrong. (Yes Remy, you were right, you needn't gloat) With no Canadians, they're SOL.

Re: Cortland @ EC

Big weekend for EC with Manhattanville coming to town. The Valiants are in second place and three points behind EC.

Re: Cortland @ EC

Re: Cortland @ EC

Possible NCAA bid on the line? I would hope they are looking for the full 4 points.

That's why I said atleast Jim. Obviously all four would be ideal, but Manhattanville is coming on like gangbusters right now.

Hate to say it, but, I don't think EC has improved as much as the rest of the field, JMHO.
4 points isn't impossible though.

Don't make my head grow. I still think Cortland is going in the right direction, but not in that mid-tier SUNYAC team yet. They rely on their goaltender to steal games and they have, or at least given them a chance to stay with in reach in a lot of games.

I wish I coukd make Friday night, but I get crappy cell service in the Domes to listen to the game. Maybe Saturday and catch the girls game as well....

Well we'll get a good feel for it this weekend with the results.

Elmira's MO in the last few years at least...started off relatively slow and then come on really strong throughout the midcourse of the season and then flounder out in the playoffs.

I think they are going for what...Their 3rd or 4th straight ECAC West regular season title?

Re: Mo'ville v EC Pt II

According to the Elmira 2011-12 Media Guide: http://www.elmira.edu/resources/sha...uides/201112MensHockeyMediaGuide.pdf?tag=HEAD

Elmira has never lost to Cortland and is 7-0-0 against the Red Dragons.

I feel like that number can't be right though and the two teams have had to have played each other more than that over the years. Maybe not I guess.

I think you're right Prez, they must have played them more than that. Hey! We've both been wrong before though ;-)

According to the 09/10 media guide, EC had played and beaten Cortland 34 times prior to the 09/10 season, the closest game being a 6-5 OT win in 96/97.

My favorite memory being a Halloween game at Cortland in the late 90s in which a drunk student dressed up as Macho Man Randy Savage spit in the face of an EC coed. An EC fan, an old dude in a purple coat and long beard, smacked the kid in the face. All hell broke loose, and some arse from Cortland dressed up as a chef began swinging a frying pan. Closest I've ever come to being in a brawl.

Was this the same game where someone threw their coat at the PA announcer because they announced all the Elmira goals with a "who cares" attitude. I know it was at a SUNY school and I feel like it had to be Cortland or Fredonia.

For anyone that was at the game, they'll know what I'm talking about with the PA announcer's voice...clearly most places never announce goals the same way they do for the home team but this announcer at this game made it sound especially bad with how bored and non-chalant they said it. I think this might be the game you are talking about.

I want to say it was 96ish...because I remember coming home from the game and listening to the Yankees win the world series (puke)

Yessir... same game! It was Louie's wife (for those of you who know Lou...) that threw her fur coat at the announcer. The "old dude" that engaged Macho man was a guy named Greg. He passed away several years ago, but he was a gruff old guy, that never took crap from anyone. As far as the world series goes; I clearly remember you cheering when the Yanks won it. That's why I was so surprised to find out you were a Yankee hater years later.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Just saw Lou's wife the other day, Sheila is her name. First (bus) trip I took to RIT, Lou got sucker punched by an RIT fan, broke Lou's glasses, good old days;)

Ma'ville v EC pt 1

Ma'ville v EC pt 1

Tighten up the chin straps, cause tomorrow night is going to be fun

- Everett shows up again, and confirmed his place in history as the absolute worst referee on the planet. Set the tone for the rest of the game.
- EC's lines are juggled because of Burnell's absence
- Ma'ville sports 15 players from Western Canada ... shades of their original recruiting strategy
- 1st period ... much smoke, no fire. Valiants skating with EC
- Ma'ville really plays the neutral zone well
- Both Ma'ville goals appeared to be unassisted accidents. Around the net and the light goes on!?
- Everett misses a 7 Ma'ville skater call, and the crowd goes ballistic and the game takes off
- Refs seem to call about 4 make-up calls which infuriates the Valiant coaches
- Ma'ville's PP defense is porous, and EC scores two shorties, and misses on three other shorty attempts, one wide open
- Really heavy hitting, lots of barking, even the little guys getting into it
- Finally all he!! breaks out and four guys get the door.
- Arlen Marshall, an EC favorite now an Asst coach gets tossed as well (by Everett)

Typical EC and Ma'ville rancor ... Derek, wish you were here!

It would have been nice to see some officiatng at the game but all that the spectators got was bumbling, inept, guesswork for the entire game. The officials were the reason the fighting broke out in the third period - the players had simply frustrated with the lack of officiating. The refs were not biased, they just didn't know that there was a game going on and what they needed to do to control it. Awful, awful job !!!!!

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Of the 3 most egregious referee blown calls/non-calls in my 37 years of attending EC games, Everett is the perpetrator of 2 of them. Manhattanville played with too many men on the ice for several seconds, had too many men on the faceoff, and played with too many for several seconds afterward. If M'ville had scored on the play, the crowd would have really exploded.
2 years ago, the other Everett blunder was when Andrew Wilcox was viciously cross-checked from behind, causing him too fall to the ice and be injured. Everett called Wilcox for diving.
This guy just doesn't have the ability to control a game and doesn't have a strong feel for what goes on during a game. Off the ice he seems like a decent guy, but his abilities to officiate at this level are at best highly questionable.

Thanks for the info. I was a fan of EC hockey in the 80's when my daughter was an EC student. When she graduated I would attend EC v. Union until U went D1 and then EC v. Williams until that rivalry was apparently discontinued. I still look at EC game results every now and then and most recently I saw the EC win over Cortland. I did not recall any loss when I followed EC and that most recent score piqued my interest.
