"THE BEARS HAVE WON!! The band is on the field but the Bears have won!!"

It was Moen, Rodgers, Garner,
Rodgers, Ford, Moen,
And the only thing that stopped them...
...was Tyrrell on trombone.

Oh hell, might as well...

He was the trombonist that got run over in that game. :p

Of course I did. The play was over when the ballhandler's knee touches the ground and when someone made a forward lateral. You can see the final score on the Axe:

'Merica would be a better place without arizona.

When you quote the derp you spread the derp.

That said, has anyone kept track of how many different titles Old Pio has given Obama? At this rate Obama could put some English Dukes to shame.

He hasn't used "The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers" yet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can always count on the East German diving judges.

The derp will spread regardless of anyone's actions until board wises up and drops him like his momma dropped him on his head.... repeatedly.

Big day coming up....

Besides the SCOTUS ruling on PPACA, the House will vote to find Holder in contempt of Congress. Several months ago, 31 Democrat Representatives signed a letter to Holder asking him to produce documents. The story will become how many of them vote "aye." One has already signalled he will, two have said "no," the rest have not said one way or the other, yet.

When will they ever learn??

The coverup always turns out to cause far more trouble than the initial incident.**
> Nixon almost certainly did not know about nor approve the Watergate break-in in advance*. His coverup cost him the Presidency.
> Clinton's coverup led to two wasted years, and if Clinton had been as unpopular as Nixon, might well have caused him to resign as well.
> Warren's insistence on "family lore" over documentary evidence was a problem

and of course, remember the scandal with Bush and Gonzalez? oh, wait, never mind, they came clean early on and Gonzalez survived and the issue faded into the background in a few weeks.

I'd be surprised if Holder knew anything about Fast and Furious at the outset. Yet it seems clear that he learned about it pretty early on in the game, and of course, that evidence will become his undoing, even though there was no reason for him at the time to suppress it other than to avoid shorft-term transient embarrassment.

"It's not the mistake, it's the recovery." that's business 101. You apologize, make amends, move on, survive with a good chance at next time. Survival > ego unless your ego is so big you conflate the two.

* I followed the details avidly back then as they unfolded, and read plenty of the books that came out later. I'm not going to source this inference to any one of them in particular.
** unless you were Ted Kennedy...he got away with his crime.

Can someone who's been following F&F let me know if there's anything to the Fortune 'bombshell'?

Interesting piece. Frankly, I haven't paid much attention to this matter. Although I find a 40-year old annecdate from his teen age years unpersuasive as to Issa's motivations. There is also the little matter of that letter, in which (paraphrasing Butterfly McQueen) the DOJ said: "We don't know nothin' 'bout no Fast and Furious." When, in fact, they knew quite bit. Is this election year politics? To be sure. Is there some "there" there? I suspect so.

And the pathetic efforts to drag Bush into this I also find unpersuasive. The Willie Horton business (first raised by Al Gore) is an article of Demcratic faith of the wickedness of Bush I. Yet I recall Bob Beckel saying this furlough policy in MA, although started by the previous governor, was fully embraced and defended and continued by Dukakis. It became his baby as a result. Similarly, this is Holder's (and perhaps His Privilegeness') baby. And no amount of blame shifting can change that.

Yeah, you could see the rush to publish - I have to think an editor at a publication like Fortune (as opposed to DailyKos or the Daily Caller) would want a mulligan on the bit about Issa's personal history. That should have gotten the axe. Including it is subtraction by addition.

All I really know is that you couldn't pay me to work at ATF. Fold it and reassign jurisdiction to some other law enforcement agency.

I don't want to get into re-litigating past controversies. . . but it seems fair to say that organization has a cloud over its collective head.

Sure they do. Although gunning down ATF agents serving a legal warrant did not ingratiate Vernon Howell with me. I was never quite able to work it out. Was he a "hero" because he was a gun nut or a religious nut? I'm in the middle on these issues. If the NRA or whoever can find a smoking gun credibly establishing that Fast and Furious was a giant Obama Administration plot to "confiscate" guns, as opposed to garden variety government blundering, I'm persuadable. But these are the same people who referred to murdered ATF agents as "bucket helmeted, jack booted government thugs." Sorry, Charlie, you've pinned the needle.

Hmm....well,if the Fortune article is substantively true, it makes the need for a coverup even more puzzling, no? Why would Holder insist on withholding documents that would exonerate people?

Unless it outs an undercover agent.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

FF, I think you're right in that the coverup is worse than the crime. Obama opened the door for this sort of thing when he boasted he would have the most transparent administration in history. I think he's learned (assuming he didn't already know) that it's a lot easier to make guarantees before you take office. When you're actually in office, and actions have consequences . . .

The substance of the Fortune article - and I haven't followed the whole ordeal very closely - seems to suggest a slight twist: the coverup is the only crime.

Again, we'll know more eventually. I'm just happy that at least some media outlets aren't satisfied with spin. I don't want to listen to Hannity talking about how this is worse than Watergate (naturally), or to Lawrence O'Donnell bloviating about how this is actually double-racism (Holder&Obama). I'm glad someone's doing old-school investigative journalism. Just wish there were more of them.
