Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

“No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” was sponsored by Ryan and Akin.

At that time they weren't using the term "legitimate rape", they were using the term "forcible rape". The term worked so well then it was eventually pulled from the bill. They now are co-sponsoring a "personhood" bill through the congress. The same bill managed to get voted down in MISSISSIPPI!

Ryan is ANYTHING but mainstream. Ryan and Akin are the same men.

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Its even more than Ryan. The official GOP platform takes the same position. This is mainstream Republicanism now. Guys like Bob trying to deny what people like Ryan and his party are on public record as supporting only look like idiots, and as the old saying goes, there's no reasoning with idiots. ;)
Come on, that's not fair. Bob's not an idiot, and calling him out unnecessarily doesn't help. There are a handful of actual trolls on these threads; please do not get sucked into playing their game by calling out a sincere poster who is just trying to be heard. If occasional intemperate language gets somebody blasted as an "idiot," then we are all guilty.

Bob is acting like an idiot. Whether he is personally or not I have no clue as I don't know anybody outside of the BU and some BC people personally. You could be an axe murderer for all I know. When somebody repeatedly denies a well documented fact (as in Akin and Ryan co-sponsored a bill that would force rape victims to have their rapists child or face unspecified criminal charges) despite being shown multiple times that he's mistaken that poster is being an idiot. It does no good for anybody sugar coat it.

Whether or not the Akin-Ryan legislation is a good idea is a matter of opinion. Whether or not Akin & Ryan sponsored the legislation is not an opinion. Its a fact. If someone is going to deny a basic fact they deserve ridicule. Otherwise you get the George W Bush Presidency again.

You calling anyone an idiot is rich, given the stuff you post day in and day out. Usually you just stick to saying ridiculously partisan rubbish, rather than stoop to personal attacks.

Continued attacking of Ryan for something Akin did continues to make people look petty and partisan. But, hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.

Their beliefs are exactly the same. Akin's misspeak was no different than the "forcible rape" language they had in their original bill. You can spin this till the cows come home it doesn't change the facts.

You just can't let go of the spin. Sheesh!

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Scoobs, you're wasting your time with Bob. If Paul Ryan decreed that every true conservative should walk around in a chicken suit Bob would be wearing feathers within the hour.

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Good lawd, I'm going to partially defend Paul Ryan. Then I'm going to drink a beer to get the taste out of my mouth.

Ryan's never said anything close to what Akin said. What Akin said is offensive beyond the obvious because the implication is that if a woman is found to be pregnant after being raped, on some level she "wanted it." and therefore unwanted pregnancies from rape cannot exist. It allows him to escape the entire issue of rape pregnancies.

All we know is that Ryan supported (supports?) legislation that would not include an abortion exception for rape victims. We don't know what he plans to do with the ~30,000 unwanted pregnancies a year that result from rape. We can at least be willing to let him answer that question instead of assuming he's going to hand wave it away like Akin does because thinking is too hard for him.

Now that's back to your silly, yet somewhat funny and entertaining style of posting. Kudos!

We may disagree on things, but at least you're fair.

I'm not saying that we need to tell people how to live their lives, but there are some that make the most out of the bad situation and give birth 9 months later. One thing that will always confound me is how some women will carry the child for 9 months thinking that they'd give him/her up for adoption (obviously they have pro-life feelings), but all of a sudden once they give birth, decide to keep the child.

Sorry. He sponsored legislation with the "forcible rape" language in it. It's the same definition change as "legitimate" rape. Akin and Ryan are the same.

bronc you're answering a point that nobody's making. As everyone has repeatedly said, Ryans' views on why he feels rape victims should birth their attackers children is unclear. However, what is crystal clear is that both he and Akin want to legislate that this is the law of the land. And really at the end of the day, does it make a difference whether Ryan feels that same way about rape victims conceiving as Akin does, or if he's sponsoring this bill for another reason? Bottom line, the practical effect is the same and therefore on this issue Ryan and Akin have the same view on rape victim's rights to control their own choice, hence why they co-sponsored the bill together.

Keep saying it over and over again. Maybe you can at least convince yourself.

Why are you denying a matter of public record?

Are you saying that they did not co-sponsor a personhood bill that would give legal protection to fertilized eggs?

You are now looking like the troll here.

If he's your boy, own it.

Re: Elections 2012: Congressional and Gubernatorial

Exactly. Cons should come out and say loud and proud they agree with the Akin-Ryan legislation even if not necessarily for Akin's personal reasoning. If you're voting for these people, you own it. Dodging and weaving will do no good.

Nice try at distracting from the major smear campaign against Ryan that's underway because of a statement Akin made. But, hey, if the smear works in your favor, no problem?
