Elections 2012 -- Carrion My Wayward Son!

Re: Elections 2012 -- Carrion My Wayward Son!

I think Ryan would be a mistake - but not a surprising one, as Romney has proven himself a terrible campaigner, and not a meaningful one, because there's nobody he could have picked that would help anymore.

Ya the field for VP is kinda picked over. There are quite a few governors and a couple of force fits from battleground states...but nobody that couples key supplemental experience a Romney ticket desperately needs with the charisma/leadership skills capable of stepping up as need be.

Makes sense. Everybody with experience was a cheerleader for Bush, so they're poison.

The Dems faced a similar situation in 1984 and the only taker was Gerry Ferraro.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Carrion My Wayward Son!

But it does tend to demonstrate the weakness of his case for re-election. Doesn't it? The risk he runs is by driving up Romney's negatives, he drives up his own, losing that "nice guy" image that's helped him in the polls. I would also have thought His Hopeychangeyness would have set a higher standard than what the bad old GOP did many years ago.

Ummm...no, not really. See the "O" has popularity to spare while Mittens is about as well liked as athletes foot fungus. The longer his unpopularity goes on the more it sinks in. Tell me Old PO'd, how confident ARE you in the Mittwit winning the White House. I'm always on the lookout for a good laugh, and the notion that Obama shouldn't run negative campaign ads was a real knee slapper. Lets see if you can give us an encore.

Fishy the reason why its an either/or proposition this year is that there is no viable 3rd party alternative. Ross Perot is not walking through that door. The choices are a certified nutball who made money publishing KKK material in a newsletter for years, or a guy who thinks the solution to the country's problems is for everybody to get baked with free drugs. Neither of these two has a chance so you will be dealing with Obama or Romney one way or the other. Might as well pick the one you're closest to policy wise.

I prefer Hippocrates' solution: first, do no harm.

Obama's policies cleary have not worked, by his own standards ("Pass this stimulus bill to reduce unemployment" he said it, it didn't work, it merely increased the debt drastically). We can agree to disagree, I suppose; if not, we can at least agree you are disagreeable by definition, eh?

...which means...drumroll please...

Adding Ryan does actually pin Romney down on something, that being the Ryan Plan. I'm not sure how that's actually much good for him, though. Normally, I'd say he needs someone with foreign policy expertise but I can't think of any that A) weren't in the Bush administration during the Iraq War and B) want the job. The other problem with that is regardless of who he picked, he's still at a disadvantage on foreign policy right now. There are about 11 people in this country not working for AIPAC that are interested in a war with Iran right now, and that seems to be Romney's chief goal.

I'm not supporting either candidate. Definitely will not vote for Obama. Am quite disappointed (so far) in Romney, although I've heard that since he is merely the "presumptive" nominee there are spending limits on his campaign until after the convention. Maybe he'll surprise us all by figuring out that he absolutely must develop a cogent, concise message of what he is for.

You'd think a businessman could say clearly what business needs from Washington to start hiring again, eh?

He's not running against Her Royal Highness, the Dutchess of Chautauqua. He's running against the Great Pretender, the Prince of <strike>Kenya</strike>Chicago.

You should probably hunt some birthers down to let them know that Obama's been picking up royal titles again. He just can't help but violate that part of the Constitution.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Carrion My Wayward Son!

I had forgotten that going to war with Iran was one of the few policy positions Romney had taken.

Who the hell wants to vote for that?

Stick the Ryan plan around his neck by making him the VP choice and the decision is between reelecting GW Bush or sticking with Obama.

Another 4 years of Bush I guess. That will surely finish the destruction of the middle class that was started in 2001.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Carrion My Wayward Son!

Who said the rich are "getting screwed"?

Except for that, we both said the same thing in different words, no?

The perverse question is "what is 'fair'?". So far, the Democrat answer is like Billy Idol's Rebel Yell: "More, more, more."

Why is this even a major campaign topic when there are so many other, far more serious, problems to address?

Why are we pitting neighbor against neighbor when the situation cries out desperately for co-operation and shared responsibility?

So you don't see reducing the defecit as a serious problem? Why would returning to Clinton era tax levels pit neighbors against eachother rather than show cooperation and shared responsibility?

Of course reducing government spending is a very serious problem! and no one is proposing an across the board return to Clinton era tax levels; and no one is proposing that taxes on "the rich" be reduced.

The dems case for election or re-election is almost always weak. It took extraordinary incompetence and corruption from the previous admin to allow the dems to win the White House in '08. The only question is now whether the Reps need another four years in the penalty box or not.

Oh dear Lord. A couple of my relatives have linked on Facebook the Onion article of Bachmann on the Sikh shooting. I know she's an idiot but I wonder if she could figure out that the Onion is satire? It is clear that most of the liberal friends of my relatives are not smart enough to do so.

There's a wealth of foriegn experience out there for VP...but outside of Powell/Rice, most of it is neocon.

Maybe friends of your relatives...but the onion is an urban political satire rag and its audience is largely liberal.

1. I thought Condie Rice was the intellectual founder of neocon foreign policy when she wrote a bunch of stuff at Stanford about democracy spreading like wildfire in the middle east inspiring GW Bush to hire her to spread the gospel in his admin?

2. How is The Onion "urban"? Am I still allowed to look at it?

I never saw a copy when I lived in Scammon Bay, AK. In fact, come to think of it, I have only ever seen it when I was in a reasonably-sized city. Hmm. Maybe that makes it urban.
