ECAC-West Tournament 2010

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010

More than likely RIT needs to win the whole thing IMHO to assure a bid.

The committee MIGHT give RIT the bid over Elmira if they really spank them in the semis and then play a tight game with Plattsburgh, but even then, it'd still be close. Head to head would be a wash with each team being 1-1-1.

It'd come down to SOS and record against ranked teams etc.
History (2005-2006) has shown that if either Elmira or Plattsburgh (Elmira) is beaten by some team (Utica, 4-1), preventing Elmira and Plattsburgh from playing each other in the ECAC-West finals, the NCAA will take the team that lost in the semis (even though they lost 2 of 3 games to said team) and pit them against the winner (Plattsburgh) of the ECAC-West tournament in the first round of the NCAA's. I point this out just for your information (not that we are bitter (well, not anymore than usual) here in Utica). :D

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010

While I think RIT can finally beat Elmira I'm not sure that they can beat Plattsburgh. I kinda hope I can make it up there this weekend to see the games.

RIT certainly can beat Plattsburgh. It's just not very likely. =(

When does the ECAC West announce their regular season all-ECAC teams and POTY, ROTY, and COTY? I would think it would be soon?

PS. Moberg for Ms.HOBEY. :D

I belive it will be late Thursday night or Friday.

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010

Okay...it's Elmira and Platsburgh...who's got the tale of the tape?? How manytimes have they met in the final? What's their records?

They have met in eight of the nine ECAC West finals now.

Plattsburgh has been in all nine. Elmira missed one when they lost to Utica in 2006 in the semis.

Elmira leads 6-1 in ECAC West championship games between the two.

Elmira has won the ECAC West twice on Plattsburgh's ice.

Plattsburgh certainly has the momentum having beat EC twice already this year but those games were very early. Both teams are much improved since then. I'm sure it's going to be a classic. Either way, both teams better be in the NCAA Tournament. They certainly both deserve to be there.

Like always...going to come down to who's goaltender plays better and who's special teams play better.

Good luck to both teams...may the best one win.

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010

oh how i miss the days of actually writing those, not just delegating someone else to write them as i do now lol

I never got to play the role of editor...:o

Ah well...I like reporting anyways rather than playing around with Quark and doing pages.

Wish I could be at the game tomorrow...But I'll be at the Glens Falls Civic Center for the Section II Class B finals between Fonda-Fultonville and Watervliet.

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010

Well except for not including any quotations from RIT players or coaches.

Didn't get any from Utica's coaches or players either.

It was a student reporter. I'd say they did a pretty darn good job for covering two hockey games and getting quotes without the ability of a press conference.

Plus you have to think about how many inches or words was his story supposed to be? Sometimes there just isn't enough space.

no inch or word counts really because its for our web edition. as a rule, i tell our guys and girls 900 or less. i know in the print world that would never fly, but it makes our web coverage more comprehensive at least. our preview stories that run in print are typically 600 or so.

I've gotten hounded by my managing editor a few times for going over 1,000 words with stories.

However, when I'm the only local story and the two local HS basketball teams that are playing have been ragged on for never being good (one hadn't made it to the sectional semifinal since 2000, the other hadn't won sectionals since 1970 and had lost in the sectional semis 3 out of the last four years)

I felt the need to elaborate a bit:cool:

Don't imagine these coaches were very receptive or talkative anyway. Two tough losses in hard fought games does not make for very quotable quotes. This was great coverage from these students. Congrats...this is good experience for them.

Re: ECAC-West Tournament 2010
