ECAC-East: Who is on the ice?

Re: ECAC-East: Who is on the ice?

Great Hockey Player + financial need + at least average grades = Tip at NESCAC school. Right?
No, financial aid is determined based on need. If your old man is an orthodontist, you get nothing! You pay full price. All schools have financial aid, not just NESCAC.

Re: ECAC-East: Who is on the ice?

What would they do if all of the ECAC East teams decided en masse to start practicing on the 15th? End the the Interlock?

I, personally liked the later start, and I think it has benefits at the end of the season, because all that really happens by starting earlier is that the season is more diluted. On the other hand I don't like the lack of respect that the NESCAC as a whole has shown to the ECAC East in this slow motion breakup that really started in 1999. Hope you guys enjoy playing Tufts and Conn College twice a year.
My guess is that it would probably end it and start the process of playing each NESCAC team twice a year immediately. NESCAC relies on players from football and soccer so that is the reason for the later start. I am sure NESCAC will enjoy playing Tufts and Conn College twice more than the East will enjoy playing four D2 games a season that don't count. Regarding Tufts, they have beaten and tied Midd recently and with Barchard in goal can steal a game. I think Norwich may have run into one of his performances in the past few years?

I already said that I, for one, like the later start. I just don't like the disrespectful way that the NESCAC blew up what was a mutually beneficial arrangement. The "don't count" is a little silly mathematically. As conference games they count for playoff seeding. As far as Pool C is concerned, "don't count" is quite different from "count as losses." In fact a win doesn't help you as far as the NCAA is concerned, but a loss doesn't hurt you either. All it does is makes each of your other games more important.

Yes, a large percentage or perceived percentage of financial aid is needs-based. There are many levels of financial aid, grants, loans and assorted incentives for schools to dangle in front of athletes that also have the academic, art, music or other talents, interests or abilities that will enrich their campus. Don't think for a second that if a coach wants a player they cannot find the funds to make the orthodonist's kid's head turn. If that student-athlete's application can check off a needed admission dean's box, the financial aid number crunchers, regardless of the parent's or student's FAFSA, get busy.

Re: ECAC-East: Who is on the ice?

ECAC East will put the coaches on the ice Nov 1st and not a day sooner, NESCAC rule.
Please excuse my naivete, what happens to the ECAC-E school that has their coaches on the ice with their players per the NCAA rule, 10/15, this year?

Re: ECAC-East: Who is on the ice?

Next season the East will begin practice on the 15th.

Thinking ahead to next year do you think Norwich would be interested in scheduling a Canadian U team the week after practice starts? Or the US Under 18 team?

The ECAC East teams are going to be opened up to a whole new world of possibilities next season :D....

I'm sure Coach McShane is exploring a plethora of scheduling possibilities to help strengthen his club for post-season play.

Man, a weekend trip to Vermont would be nice for a pair of hockey games.

Which is almost exactly the concept behind this. And clearly if you do it in too obvious a way, even if its not technically against NCAA rules on a blanket level, it seems they will come down on you.
