ECAC D1 Women's Hockey 2014-15 Season

Re: ECAC D1 Women's Hockey 2014-15 Season

Additionally it can probably be chalked up to laziness among the individuals who judge.
Most times, the best teams attract the best players, and that's why they are the best teams. It isn't a shock as to why they do better than less-talented players on less-talented teams.

Part of what I look at when judging players is, "Did she make a difference? What did she accomplish that another very good player may not have been able to do?" That is what what is tough with players on teams that seldom win. If she was unable to lift her team when other players on other teams were, then she doesn't really differentiate herself from a lot of other good players. And there are a lot of good players out there.

I think Nicole Schammel at Minnesota State had a great freshman season, but her team won just one conference game. It's still a team sport, so to the victor go the spoils.

Not really trying to disparage anyone, just a semi informed observation. I've spoken with a couple of heads of league regarding the whole player of the week & month thing to be told that really only a couple of coaches see them "the players they face" play that week, some do and don't read the after action reports, they or their designate vote and that's that. Chalked up to not enough time and resources. And it's been explained that it's really just for fun? Let's face it you can face 10 Incredible shots make six unbelievable saves but give up four that God himself couldn't have saved, your numbers look poor. The other side sees 35 soft shots or dump ins gives up maybe one and there you have it! Player of the week, string together a couple of cupcake weeks and you get a monthly award. I for one think the players like your Schammel need to be recognized!! If not we will continue to see all the talent follow each other and seasons will for the most part stink as each league will have a couple power houses that run the table.

just my thoughts?

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University announced today that Amy Bourbeau has stepped down as women's ice hockey coach. A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

"I want to thank Coach Bourbeau for her contributions to the Brown women's hockey program and its student-athletes," said Brown Director of Athletics Jack Hayes. "I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors."

Bourbeau coached the Bears for four seasons from 2011-15, compiling a 23-79-14 overall record. She helped lead Brown to its first appearance in the ECAC playoffs in five years during the 2011-12 season. Her teams won the Mayor's Cup against crosstown rival Providence College three out of four years during her tenure.

Wow - that didn't take long.....

That's not what we are seeing. If you think this season stunk, I guess I don't know what to tell you. There were a lot of teams that were very balanced, unpredictable results occurred every week, and great players were all over the place. Just because someone doesn't make an all-conference team, it doesn't mean they aren't a good player or their contributions aren't appreciated.

I agree that weekly awards tend to be hit or miss, but that's a whole other topic.

Clarkson in 2
Yale in 3
Princeton in 3
Cornell in 3

Man, would I love this to be the results for this weekend! Clarkson could use the Autobid, so there's no question whether they make it to the Tourney.

But unfortunately, I really don't think there's anyway that both Harvard and Quinnipiac get knocked out.

Does the ECAC reseed for the semi-finals CCT-Ylae and Cornell-Prinny or would it be CCT-Cornell and Ylae-Prinny?

In any scenario, Clarkson still will have a tough time (1-1 with Ylae and 0-1-1 with Cornell in the Regular season).

I believe it reseeds, but I very well may be recalling incorrectly.

I think that all 8 teams are fairly evenly matched and that you could play this quarterfinal round 10 times and not have the same 4 teams in the semifinals more than 4 times and the same champion more than 3 times. I'm really hoping this is the year Clarkson finally wins it all.

The scoreboard at Watson Rink said the women would reseed after the QFz too.

And whatever Watson Rink may say is unimpeachable authority!

Re: ECAC D1 Women's Hockey 2014-15 Season

Clarkson 5 Dartmouth 0 end of 2
Shots 32-13 CCT

So much for my close games scenario.

Re: ECAC D1 Women's Hockey 2014-15 Season

Clarkson 4 Dartmouth 1.

The Dartmouth goal represented the first goal the Big Green had scored in Cheel Arena since October 28th, 2011, a span of eight games. WOW.

All the top seeds hold serve in the first games this weekend.

Perfect...Time to come out of that bitter cold winter hibernation and go watch some ECAC playoff games south of here in the North Country !!!!
