Part of what I look at when judging players is, "Did she make a difference? What did she accomplish that another very good player may not have been able to do?" That is what what is tough with players on teams that seldom win. If she was unable to lift her team when other players on other teams were, then she doesn't really differentiate herself from a lot of other good players. And there are a lot of good players out there.
I think Nicole Schammel at Minnesota State had a great freshman season, but her team won just one conference game. It's still a team sport, so to the victor go the spoils.
Most times, the best teams attract the best players, and that's why they are the best teams. It isn't a shock as to why they do better than less-talented players on less-talented teams.Additionally it can probably be chalked up to laziness among the individuals who judge.
