ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

I can't say I was terribly impressed with the officiating (shocking, I know). While not trying to sound like sour grapes, it just seemed Q was getting the benefit of the calls and non-calls all weekend. I remember one Harvard player getting his stick whacked out of his hand just as he was about to take a shot and never got a call. I also remember a trip that happened 10 feet in front of Garteig that also wasn't called. Those are just two instances, but various events during Friday's games showed me that the officiating took a major step back...again.

That said, I still think Esposito's hit on Anas should have warranted a game misconduct, at minimum. Don't 5-minute majors usually (automatically?) come with a game misconduct or a DQ?

I saw it mentioned on Twitter that boarding does not come with automatic game misconduct, or DQ. However, a checking from behind, would have. It was speculated that they went the route they did as a "middle ground" type of decision. I didn't see it, so I won't comment on whether that was right or not.

it was a bad one for sure. im sure esposito is a decent kid, but he made a bad decision and there should be consequences. hoping the league is reviewing and takes appropriate action.

regarding the penalties overall, i think both Q and Harvard play "with and edge" and there were plenty of missed calls to go around. One i would point to is the Vesey slash on Toews - had to miss a couple of shifts to get the feeling back in his fingers.

Having seen it, I am stunned there hasn't been a suspension announced yet. But then again, this would be suspending him for a game against a non-conference opponent...

If it were the other way around, it would have been announced before it even happened. EC$$ has their lips firmly implanted upon the rears of the non-scholarship teams.

The same very same ref who was horrible in the second RPI-Harvard playoff game. Not that the outcome would have likely been different but he is an absolute embarassment - a true disciple of Paul Stewart. He must be a graduate of the Vince McMahon School of Refereeing.

No - he's PS's nephew

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

The IVY League is the least penalized league in college hockey and all six teams are 49th and below in penalty minutes. Contrast that to Boston College who is #3 in penalty minutes. The benefit of the doubt belongs to Harvard and especially Esposito who does not commit a lot of penalties and has only had 8 penalties for 19 minutes all year. It will be interesting to see the match-up between Harvard's Power Play and BC's penalty kill.

49 Harvard 122-for-277 8.39
50 Dartmouth 133-for-293 8.37
51 Colgate 143-for-305 8.24
52 Denver 138-for-312 8.21
53 Cornell 135-for-273 8.03
54 Air Force 142-for-295 7.97
55 Holy Cross 125-for-280 7.78
56 Yale 109-for-240 7.74
57 American International 133-for-293 7.51
58 Princeton 101-for-227 7.32
59 St. Cloud State 129-for-288 7.20
60 Brown 92-for-203 6.55

seems like you're making flagdude's point!

even if esposito doesn't have a reputation, still need to suffer the consequences of a dangerous hit just like anyone else.

It was reported that the ice sheet in Lake Placid was sloppy. Extenuating circumstances. Was it intentional? Agree with FD that the ECAC refs are terrible but they do not show any favoritism in their terribleness. They are terrible all the time.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

it was absolutely intentional. i am not condemning esposito, just the hit itself. maybe just a bad moment for him, but still should have to pay a price. couldn't believe he stayed in the game.

With Harvard's loss, we can get at most 1 team into the Final 4.
If Yale and Q both win tonight, we are certain to get one team into the Final 4.
