ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Ya cuz the current rules have really hindered Jerry York from winning a lot at BC.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Regardless of what happens here on out, the ECAC has made an NCAA F4 presence 4 of the last 5 years. We are competing successfully and consistently on another level. Who is going to make it next year?

While I suppose it's nice that the Hobey returned to an ECAC school, I'm not sure this was the year for it.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

I am not trying to take anything away from ND or the NCHC. We know they are a great team with a storied past and great fans and the NCHC is a top, if not the top hockey league in the country. That being said, ND played:

Colorado College 6 times. Ranked 55th in the pairwise with a record of 6-29-1
Alabama-Huntsville 2 times. Ranked 56 in the pairwise with a record of 7-21-6
Western Michigan 4 times. Ranked 43 in the pairwise with a record of 8-25-3

This year none of us in the ECAC could take a day off ......

FWIW, North Dakota had the 8th Highest SOS (per KRACH, 12th per RPI), while Quinnipiac had the 13th Highest (19th per RPI). Both schools had their fair share of cupcakes.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

This thread was started on April 4th, 2015. It was intended to serve as a forum to discuss the ECAC and its potential for success in 2015-2016. The ECAC has some team specific and some systemic barriers to competing in NCAA D-I hockey but the league also has some strengths.

HE is our largest non-conference opponent.

In 2013-2014, the ECAC tied HE in head to head non-conference competition.
In 2015-2016, the ECAC bettered HE by one game in head to head competition

In 2015 we stumbled, having a losing non-conference record against every league except the AHA. We also did not win a single NCAA tournament game.

Our NCAA tournament record since and including 2010 is 20-17 with 5 team appearances in the FF and two National Champs. Not Bad. How are we going to do next year?

Year ECAC record in the NCAAs
2000 1-2 F4 (1)
2001 0-1
2002 0-1
2003 2-2 F4 (1)
2004 1-3
2005 1-3
2006 1-2
2007 0-2
2008 1-2
2009 1-3
2010 1-2
2011 1-3
2012 3-2 F4 (1)
2013 8-2 F4 (2) - National Champs
2014 4-2 F4 (1) - National Champs
2015 0-3
2016 3-3 F4 (1) - Finals

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

As we wait for the start of Saturday night’s Frozen Four championship game (deadlines wait for no column, not even the Sunday Gravy) one thing is abundantly clear: this isn’t your father’s ECAC Hockey league.

Quinnipiac’s appearance in college hockey’s showcase event marks the fourth time in four years that one of the league’s members has played for the national championship. It was Yale and Quinnipiac in 2013; Union in 2014; the Bobcats this time around.

The league won season matchups with Hockey East and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, which had been considered the premier conferences in the nation. Victory over North Dakota Saturday night would be the league’s third title in four years after a 23-year drought that inspired the callous nickname “EZ-AC.”

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Funny about those two wins. Came in the ECAC quarters. In your building. In OT. Sorta like this season only Dartmouth did the honors.

Yeah, but in the end we ended up in the same place both seasons, losers in the first round of the real tourney. It was more about Stu Wilson dogging him than anything else, good luck to Vesey, when he finally makes his mind up.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Found it ..... was looking for this for a while.

Ivy League drawbacks
MARC BECK OCT 28, 2009

But Yale senior associate athletic director Wayne Dean said he is content with Yale’s opportunity to compete in the ECAC.
“[The other schools are] very competitive academically, so there’s probably a time when somebody decides to go to those non-Ivy ECAC schools for many reasons,” Dean said. “They’re different academically and different geographically, but together I feel like we make the best hockey league in the country, and we’re very competitive nationally.”

Yep, I agree
